I‘m a big fan of João I, I mean he is really a great king and a world changer. After him, after Infante D. Henrique, Portugal really changed the world. This museum to me is a must see, it explains how it all began. The movie about the battle Aljubarrota is very touching.Follow the instructions and imaging how the battle was fought is also very interesting.

This place really is a history lesson come to life! You could also watch the multimedia show in English (using electronic audio guides). The show is very entertaining, explaining the key points of the battle that birthed the trajectory of Portugal as a nation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The text on the installations were a bit repetitive and differed a bit from the audio. Bathrooms well maintained. There are educator discounts!

What an extraordinary experience! History lecture through a 30 minute movie explaining how important the Battle of Aljubarrota was. Very well made, in a way that when you enter the movie theater, there is a scenery that makes you feel like you are part of the movie, and this is even before the movie starts! Plus, the museum is very well made and for an extra Euro you can have a walk through the battleground with a guide.

Knowing portuguese or having someone to help you with translation seems to be a must, still awesome!

Staff were very helpful. The audio guide is a great help. The movie was very well done, and suitable for all ages. We had a nice snack in the cafe, served by a nice lady.

If you're a history nerd, definitely budget a couple hours for this place! We only had an hour before close to catch the show and see the museum. We only got a fraction of the way through the audio guide. Really cool to see the actual location where such a historic battle was fought!

I agree with the comments below. This is a very well done interpretative center of the seminal battle in the 1380’s by the nascent Portuguese nation against the the much larger powerful Castilian army that had dominated Portugal. If you want to understand what it means to be “Portuguese,” as separate from the rest of Iberia, the short and extremely well done cinematic historical account (in multiple languages including English) provides an excellent basis for that understanding. It is a must stop on our tour of central Portugal. After the movie you can walk the actual battle field with battle stations marked and audio interpretations.

A really modern kind of museum explaining in detail all about the battle. It starts with a film, there are only a 3 or 4 rooms, then the outside area where the real battle took place. Extremely interesting.

A great job in collecting the information from the various historical documents.
Appreciated the detail to exhibit the information side by side with art of the epoch.
Very interesting for people from 10 years on.
