Xerez Megalithic Enclosure

Easy to find and what a surprise a square stone circle ! The centre stone has interesting markings. I loved my time here, highly recommend visiting.

Interesting place, but all information regarding to this you have to find on the internet. No information board, nothing.

Visited the Cromeleque do Xerez in November, 2017 while on my bicycle tour of November, 2017. Highly recommend.

Interesting historical site. And, even more interesting — the religious association is unknown.

Free entrance, the monastery close the circle was closed. I supose in the future the area will be more prepared to tourists.

Amazing Neolithic stone circle, with a remarkable center stone that appears possibly slightly carved with several depressions. The stone has been cut and rounded, with a sharp beveled edge on the top, very similar to the style I have seen in England, Scotland and France. It is about 10-12 feet tall.

The other stones are smaller, between two and five feet tall. There are about thirty of them. The circle looks remarkably intact.

I could not find reliable dating for it. On the other hand, dating for other neolithic stone circles on Spain appears to go back further than the British Isles, up to 6000BCE (Stonehenge's first circle is dated to about 3000BCE).

The other unusual aspect of this circle is that we were absolutely alone there... Not one tourist :-)

从埃武拉一路驱车，经过一片羊群和橄榄球林后，伊比利亚半岛最令人印象深刻的孤立纪念碑，也是欧洲最著名的纪念碑之一奥泰罗纪念碑 Menir do Outeiro就直接呈现在了眼前。我称它为葡萄牙支柱，它也被称为Menir no Sítio do Penedo Comprido，是位于埃武拉区Reguengos de Monsaraz市 Outeiro 和 Barrada 村庄中间的一块巨石，位于葡萄牙阿连特茹地区，距离葡萄牙和西班牙边境仅几公里。
该立柱由 Henrique Leonor Pina 恩里克·莱昂诺·皮纳和 José Pires Gonçalves 何塞·皮雷斯·贡萨尔维斯于 1969 年发现，并在他的倡议下于 1970 年左右被列入名录并于 1971 年被列为葡萄牙国家纪念碑。

整个巨石高5.6米，平均直径1米，重约8吨。它是葡萄牙第二大。顶部有一个直径30厘米的空腔。它被认为是伊比利亚半岛最好的生殖崇拜纪念碑之一。由于与埃武拉地区其他巨石的相似性，该石碑被认为可以追溯到新石器时代晚期或红铜时代。

Cromlech rectangulaire situé à 5 minutes de Monsaraz. Bien qu'indiqué sur les panneaux routiers, on n'a pas l'impression d'avoir un parking où laisser son véhicule. C'est très joli mais on pourra déplorer la moindre explication sur le pourquoi du comment de cet édifice. Un panneau d'information ne mange pas de pain et apporterait un peu de contexte : dommage. Mérite quand même l'arrêt si vous passez du côté de Monsaraz (accès gratuit)
