Matema Lake Shore Resort

We enjoyed our stay there. The beach is beautiful. Watching the sunrise over the Livingstone Mountains was worth the trip.

This is a hidden secret. A beautiful silent place with chalets directly at the shore. Super friendly service staff. Rooms and beds neat and clean. I am delighted!

Not really bad just need to improve fee things

Total relaxation at this place. So much space, peace and quiet (unlike some of the neighbouring hotels where they blast loud music esp on weekends).
Rooms: They have a whole range of accommodation options, lowest tier being rooms (slightly run down) with shared bathrooms, mid-tier are self-contained and very comfortable but not too fancy, and then the fancier rooms. Roughly 40k, 80k, and 120k Tz shillings.
Food: Both local and German/Italian/Indian food options. Fresh ground coffee. Grilled fish depending on what's available at the fish market down the beach.
I had a guide organized through the hotel for a hike up into the Livingstone mountains, plus snorkelling, and a sunrise boat ride.
Fire pit in the evenings, under the clear sky!
No WiFi.

Amazing place to unwind and get away! So rural and so relaxing! The resort has a great beach and several activities such as hiking to mountain waterfalls, canoe rides, snorkeling, and touristic trips to nearby villages where the famous clay pots are made. The menu is great and the coffee is amazing! Massages are available here. The staff is awesome! Mattias will make you feel so so welcome and so so pampered! The rooms are clean and the bungalows are great for families!

I had a very good time at the hotel, with friendly staff, clean rooms and good food (breakfast and dinner). I booked a room with common bathrooms (which were a little run down) but had to change to a better room category because electrical issues without being asked to pay a higher fare. And I think that is a very good customer service.
They also organiszed a guide for me, wo was nice, though maybe still a little bit unexperienced, but I didnt mind.
Overall a very positive time and I would sray there again.

Wonderful, local place to relax. I go every year with a big group and it’s always great! A family feel and welcoming staff. Decent, clean rooms and a beautiful beach! If you want a relaxing weekend away at a reasonable price this is your place!

Best place to spend some good time with family and friends. The food is the best plus and their hospitality is the world class standard and without forgetting the aroma of the coffee from the cafeteria

We had been searching for the right place to stay for just 10 minutes before we came across this place and immediately new we wanted to stay there. It was much cleaner and quieter compared to the neighbouring lodges and thats exactly what we were looking for. The manager Joseph is an extremely humble and helpful man. We had a great time there and even made a new friend Moyo, who was like oir guide as well and took us on a fisherman boat ride to the caves for a fair price. The food service is quite slow so we mostly ate outside at the local areas. The breakfast selection could also use a bit of improvement as we had he same breakfast everyday we were there. The cinamon rolls and home made jam were amazing however.
Its also a photographers dream. We were able to see the milky way right above us and even ligntning in the distance. All in all I highly recommend this place and the little faults do not stop me from giving it a five star. By the way, it is in Matema, Tanzania and not Malawi.

Matema has one of the beautiful view of lake Nyasa. This ocean like lake at the footsteps of the great rift valley combine to make a perfect beach view from a nice room at this resort

Excellent Place of visit

Very nice place to stay. Quiet, friendly, beautiful view. There are a wide variety of rooms to choose from. Breakfast is now included.

Matema Beach is a lovely, peaceful, relaxing place. Very family friendly and well run. We always leave looking forward to our next visit.

Very nice place to have peace of mind i call it paradise,very lovely people here.I love Nchochoma Fish BBQ.From here you can see the really beauty of Sunrise and Sunset.Above all their rooms are cheap and affordable for residents and non residents.

It is the good place for family trips

With the mountains and the beach, it is one of the most beautiful place I have been. Staff are kind and helpful and food is good.

Beautiful place to enjoy the lake Nyasa view and swimming. Fresh fish from the lake lodges are being face lifted this time around.
