unguja is an island blessed with beautiful air scenery. also an attraction for anyone who will come to Unguja. unguja has a very different sea and to believe it is confirmed when you visit the small islands along the unguja. You will also be amazed at the behavior of the people of Unguja.(if you do us harm we treat you well) and that is why we have a saying (no trouble) also unguja is an amazing island like the sun and rain work at the same time and also the surrounding islands are divided into two clusters.sand bank & coral welcome Zanzibar

We visited the island for one week and enjoyed everything it had to offer. We read and understood that the airport was small and not pleasant however we tend to disagree. The staff was friendly, the restrooms inside the airport was clean and free wifi. Baggage collection was a breeze and the wifi enabled us to communicate with our guide. Our guide Nicolas was very professional and patiently waited outside with a name board. The vehicle had aircon and we received an ice cold water on arrival. That was a very good first impression. Our resort was about 1h30m drive located in Jambiani. The resort and beach area was beautiful. We stayed at Reef n Beach and the area is much more relaxing and great for family holidays. We did the spice tour, Stone Town tour, visited a local village and went on the safari blue. All the tours were amazing and the locals ensured that we were taken good care of. The food is absolutely delicious and the island offers so many tours and sights to explore. The island is a must visit and local tour operators also offer trips to Pemba and Dar es Salaam. The weather was perfect although it rained two days before our departure. The weather however was still warm and we could still enjoy all the activities the island has to offer. We visited end June early July which is basically the end of the low season. Resorts are not that crowded during this time and offers various specials. The island is highly recommended and a must visit!

Amazing island, great people. They are smiley and friendly population. It is safe island, one can walk, drive or bike the entire island without fear of harrasment or robery. I found it a little bit expensive since they use US dollar as base of conversion. Taxi ride within the island is very expensive, thus tourists prefer the Dala Dala, a local transportation system.

a great surprise, there's a to offer on the main island of Zanzibar and surrounding areas. We went snorkelling after a short boat ride, went to a Tortoise sanctuary which was great. There's also an animal park/rehabilitation facility which allows you to touch native animals however it was too busy when we were there. I think you need 3-4 days notice to ensure you can get in. We stayed at the Park Hyatt (bit of luxury after camping on Kilimanjaro) for 2 days and thoroughly enjoyed walking around old town. The recommended eating places were a bit hit and miss but most of the time we just followed the Tripadvisor or the hotel recommendation. I think my favourite parts were the snorkelling (1st time, so not necessarily a great indication of quality), walking around stone town (the old city of Zanzibar main island) and going out on a dhow. The dhow was a pretty iconic symbol for me of the middle east given their contribution to the history of sailing and also a reminder of the great ancient melting pot Zanzibar was, so I enjoyed the experience. Like everything we asked 20 different people and eventually got down to a decent price. An hour was easily enough around sunset to forget about things, see a beautiful sky and not get too cold at the end.

Zanzibar Island (Unguja) is the main island of Zanzibar. It’s well-known for historical Stone Town, beautiful beaches and nature, both on-land and the surrounding coral reefs.

There is also a variety of different beach destinations, where everyone can find their own preferred choice. The main choice is between Zanzibar City area (including Stone Town), northern beaches (Nungwi and Kendwa), North East (Matemwe, Kiwengwa, Pwani Mchangani) and East Coast (Michamvi, Bwejuu, Paje and Jambiani).

There are also several less well-known beaches, like Fumba and Makunduchi areas. On the coast, espeacially on the western coast of Zanzibar, there are some smaller islands with hotels as well.

Zanzibar Island is the home for most of Zanzibar’s population. Nowadays Stone Town is the main port and commercial centre of the whole Zanzibar. It also hosts many cultural events and festivals.
