Pongwe Bay Resort

Authentic, relaxing, tropical Zanzibar resort!
Beautiful thatched buildings and rooms, gorgeous landscaping. A paradise in paradise. Loved going out on the long dock to The Club restaurant for a sunset drink. Food was good and the service was amazing! Could not have had friendlier staff. Had so much fun at night dancing with the staff to traditional music. Beautiful walking beach and the ocean swimming in the morning (It is tidal water) was unforgettable! Had the best message ever! Wound highly recommend this resort .

We didn't stay here but along the beach, however we spent the day and were made very welcome. We paid $10 each for the use of all the facilities including towels, the pool etc. There is a lovely restaurant at the end of a pier. The ride goes a long way out, but when it returns you can swim in the sea at the end of it. They also have sunbeds there.

As soon as we stepped into the Hotel, through the gate, it set the mood for our whole trip in Zanzibar.
The place is magical, the staff is patient and kind. As friendly as one can be. We were never rushed, even when we were running late for breakfast, lunch or dinner. (pole pole)
Room was clean, with super design. Also it was well equipped.
Damn, the whole place was just something from another planet.
The location is quite remote, but you can easily get to places by taxi or an organised driver. It's not a hotel where you feel crowded. Not like those commercial massive one. It was really so peaceful. I don't think that We've seen more than 20-25 guests together.

I wish we didn't pre book another hotel in a busier location as well, and just stayed in Pongwe Bay the whole time.

Gorgeous hotel, super relaxing. Staff very nice, friendly and extremely helpful. Activities for guests on certain days. Delicious food and drinks. Very nice beach and quiet location. During low tide, you can go for a walk or swim in the pool, and go for a swim in the sea during high tide (although there was a lot of seaweed, and I'd recommend bringing aqua shoes or using the ones available at the hotel as there are corals as well). Note that tide changes impact most of Zanzibar beaches.
But overall, highly recommended!!

The most relaxing vacation the family has ever had. Beautiful resort, well-trained and kind staff, extremely good service, clean room, very very very delicious meals, kid-friendly resort, beautiful beach, breathtaking club house, nice and chilly lounge music always and everywhere... what else?

Fantastic resort at the beautiful place, so wonderfully quiet and extremely picturesque.
Rooms are excellent and provides all the amenities. great service and friendly staff. The manager Jonata keeps the place very clean and he is so attentive to guests ,Which I had truly appreciate .. It's definitely a five star resort in all aspects.

This hotel was amazing! I visited with a friend and we had 3 nights here. The room was clean, comfortable and nice decor. The pool area is perfect for a cool dip in the water and the beach is beautiful with lots of sunbeds. There's also other activities provided by the hotel if you like, we played beach volleyball and used the SUP board and they even have reef shoes for guests to use. The food in the restaurant was always good and staff were super friendly. I also had 2 massages and the prices were reasonable.

My only tiny criticism is that they only provide a small bottle of water in the room and the water at the restaurant is very overpriced. It would be better to offer filtered water so guests can refill bottles.

We had an excellent time at the Pongwe Bay Resort. The personnel, manager, cleaning ladies, receptionists, waiters, and the massai, were all incredibly kind, helpful, always smiling.
The resort is of a beautiful authentic design, stunning, very clean and well maintained.
The food including the breakfast buffet, is very good and varied.
It's easy to find a taxi to visit places.
If we visit Zanzibar again we will definitely go back there and I can't recommend it enough.

A really enjoyable stay with friendly staff.

Clean rooms and a good selection for breakfast with free afternoon tea and also snacks before dinner. Look out for Muffin the cat who has mastered the art of getting people to give him food!

A more remote location than some of the other areas of Zanzibar but this made it all the more relaxing.

The beach does have seaweed and you can’t swim when the tide is out BUT get one of the friendly Maasai to take you further out when the tide is out to see all the amazing sea creatures, private beaches and do some swimming.

The tour desk run by Haroona at the hotel is also very competitively priced and we ended up booking most of our trips including airport transfers through him (he even took us to the airport himself at 3am so we could make our flight!)

The Club restaurant is a great place to relax during the day, have a drink and play some pool.

Overall, would highly recommend and already missing it!

Absolutely LOVED our stay at this resort. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Clean, professional, fun resort. Really nice holiday destination. We visited 6 nights with 2 kids and loved every minute of it. Highly recommended.

The best place in the island for me, especially if you want to have a really relaxed holiday. Everybody was very nice and accommodating, the hotel is wonderful, the food was amazing, the room was clean, I can only say good things about this place.
The beach is very nice as well, because of the low tide you might not be able to swim there all the time, but just walking a little bit you find the nicest remote beaches of Zanzibar. Can only just recommend it.

Wonderful place for easy and relaxed holiday. The resort is located just by the beach and you can enjoy high and low tides and long walks by the water. All services very well organized. Loved the atmosphere and our breakfast:) Thank you Carlo and Valentina!

Very quiet resort, the beach is in front of the restaurant. The pool is very usefull when the ocean is on its low tide.
It is a safe resort, good gardiens.
The food is fresh and it is served very soon after you order.
The rooms are cleaned everyday.
You can plan your all trips from the reception, when you arrive here.
By car ( rented or with the trip' s organizer)you can reach in 1 hour and a half ( depends of the time of the day)in every corner of the Island.
It is very important to know that there are a lot of local people that makes offers for you, for trips.I do not reccomand because you won't get a good quality of transportation, food, guide, etc.
You have possibilities to play football, voleyball, stand up padling, etc.All you have to do is to sign at the reception for the thing you want to play with.
We spent 10 days here.We are a family with 2 children.
The children loved this resort. It is not crowdy, big spaces.
I trully reccomand this resort for spending your time in Zanzibar.

Pongwe Bay Resort was our favourite accomodation in Zanzibar.
Thanks to the beautiful surroundings and the atmosphere of the rooms, we felt like we were in paradise.

Great accommodation. Excellent service. All we requested (we are with 2 kids) was immediately provided. Food was very delicious. You can feel that everyone is doing their best to make your vacation exceptional.

Pongwe Bay Resort exceeded our expectations in every way! The staff are so friendly and helpful with a "why not, anything is possible" motto. The room is beautiful and clean, and the view is absolutely amazing. Breakfast is what dreams are made of. Fresh pastries, fruit, bread and hot savory cuisine as well. All the food we sampled was delicious and we loved the big variety of drinks and cocktails at the bar.

Tea time was a nice touch. An hour in the afternoon with free tea and cake/pastries. We enjoyed sampling the different kinds of teas. The swimming pool is nice and clean and the beach is beautiful. There are some free sports you can do from the hotel like volleyball and stand up paddle boarding. You can also book excursions from the hotel and their prices are much more reasonable than other resorts we visited. Their masseuses at the resort also really know what they are doing.

Since this was the last resort of our trip, we just spent the entire time relaxing at the resort and enjoyed every second of it. We will definitely be back in the future!

We came here as strangers and went back with loads of good memories and with a feeling that this place feels like a family. All the staff members were just amazing. They were courteous and would make you feel like home. They had made my anniversary make so much special, can't thank enough. The rooms are clean, food is super tasty and surroundings are just spectacular. A place totally cut off from the world . This is a perfect place to chill.

The free tea and cookies is a add on and the pool is just perfect for kids and adults.

Must try the yellow Mamba from the cocktail list.

I will be visiting this place again for sure.

Enjoyed our time at Pongwe Bay very much. The food and service were excellent and the rooms were large and very comfortable.
