Nice hike to Magaro Peak. Entrance fee is depending on where you are going in the national park. I paid 300MKN/5€ for Magaro Peak.

There is (limited) on street parking available at the trail head. Besides the peak hike (= two Lakes view point) other hikes area available. Good maintained and detail signs show your options (see pictures attached).

Magaro Peak Hike is ~ 8km return including 700m ⬆.

After ~ 2km you need to choose between a slightly longer or shorter way. Next time, I would walk straight (longer way) on the way to the peak and the shorter (maybe steeper?) way on my way back. Why? The views are much nicer on the shorter way, so you want to face them instead of having the in your back (like I did) the entire time.

No need of GPS are trails are well marked (white/red - If you find yourself following the green markers after the peak: wrong way!).

Highly recommended!

Nice path for a hike. It is quite steep with different types of surface. Shortly after you start you will go through a forest which will change into a rocky surface later on. At approximately 2 km (1 hour) you can choose how to follow the loop. You can go straight ahead or go right. We have chosen to go straight ahead which will give you a look at both lakes when you go down again. It took us another hour to get to the top. The way down takes also around 2 hours. Add an extra hour to catch your breath now and then.

Easy walk, I walked in sandals, beautiful views, butterflies everywhere, and such beautiful small flowers. Hike took place on 21st June 2024. Local bus from Ohrid 6.30am 100 Dinar, to the entrance of national park, hitched up to trailhead, first car stopped. Took 90 minutes to get to the top.

We did the hike up to Magaro peak in May 2023. The trail is approximately 4km long (up to the top) and you gain ~700m of elevation on the way. The round trip took us ~4.5hrs incl. multiple breaks.

We still had a bit of snow, however nothing that would stop us from reaching the top. The trail is really well marked by red-white markings every few meters, impossible to miss.

The mountain panorama was absolutely stunning and totally worth the effort. If you are an experienced hiker/have good stamina, the hike is definitely manageable. However, if you do not do cardio workout regularly, the ascent will be extremely challenging. The trail is very steep in many parts a d has a lot of gravel. You should definitely bring proper hiking shoes, otherwise especially the descent will be dangerous. Do not do this track with kids. Bring enough water, there are no options to refill on the way.

Having that said, enjoy the beautiful journey!

We completed this hike in early June, beginning of summer.
We drove past the national park checkpoint at 6:15am expecting to pay an entry fee to the national park but no one was there.
There are plenty of parking at the starting point and the hike took us around 4 hours round trip with plenty of breaks. Our pace was also quite slow. This hike would only take 3-3.5 hours for experienced hikers
The hike is well marked with red and white markings every few metres. The hike is a loop and starts off in the forest. After the forest, up a steep section of the mountain there are signs indicating the loop trail options. 1st option to continue straight. This is less steep but goes through the long way. The 2nd option is to turn right and is shorter in distance but far steeper. Even though this route is shorter, the steep terrain makes it a longer hike upward.
Please be mindful of the loose rocks on the way down. Wear proper closed shoes to prevent slippage.
The weather in the start of summer is perfect. There are small patches of snow melting away however this hike can still be done easily. The weather is not too hot and can be done in a tshirt and shorts. There is no water source during the hike so bring your own water.
We drove out of the national park checkpoint at 11:15am and there was still no one there to take our national park fee.
Overall, great hike with amazing views. An easy-moderate hike for experienced hikers. A tough challenging one for those who don't do cardio.

Beautiful walk to the top. In fact it is a round trip. Sometimes steep, but never difficult. Very well marked, so no risk of getting lost. When we visited this place, there was still a lot of snow, covering part of the path. But it was not too difficult to follow the track.

Very nice trail to Magaro peak and back (about 8km and +/-700m elevation in total). Oposite direction trail leads to a view point - this one is much easier - about 4km and 400m elevation.

Great hiking trail, about 8 km from start to the peak Magaro and back again. It is rocky so high shoes are recommended as always. It is marked excellent for hiking just look for the white-red markings, each one can be seen from the last one. The scenery is amazi ng. Also, it is advisable as with any moutain to talk louder or yell randomly at times to announce you are passing through to any wild life. It is very unliekly to encounter a dangerous animal though, a bear for instance.

Happens to be much prettier than I thought it was. There's a little mountain hut near the regional road that should be open during warmer months. The mountain has a beautiful scenery, nice tracks and a fantastic view of both Prespa and Ohrid lakes as well as the sarrounding mountain peaks.

Yes it is pretty hard to do. You walk up for 2-2,5 hours. Down hill is also hard, especially on your knees. But the view is so worth it!

For someone who loves nature, you have to visit this place. It is amazing. You can enjoy nature in the big, wide forest and you can have a great experience. I have to mention the view from above too. It is fantastic. Just be careful if you light up a fire. Nobody wants to destroy the beauty of the mountain.

Great starting point for hiking. Clear signs regarding routes that can be taken.

There is a route to the north and a couple of routes to the south. Both finish with beautiful views.

The one to the north is easier in my opinion
