We loved this visit and the guided tour. You realise here how beautiful nature is. The caves are well preserved to make sure that they aren't being destroyed by tourism. The hike is very easy from the cable car. Superb views from the top of the mountain of the valley and lake. This is a must visit on a trip to Hallstatt.

This place was one of the highlights of our Hungary-Austria-Germany trip. We didn't even know it existed until our chateau owner suggested it, and we're so glad he did! The hike up to the gondola was gorgeous, and the ice cave itself was extremely cool. The whole thing was a great adventure for our pre-teens and teenagers as well -- fun for the whole family!

Three additional notes:
1. Make sure you pack a hoodie for everyone, and go in pants and sneakers. If you don't have a hoodie packed, you can buy one at the gift shop before you take the walk up to the gondola.
2. Plan to eat lunch at the restaurant that's close to the base of the cave. It offers a great view from the mountain and good German food! (Also, there's a restroom there.)
3. If you're traveling with someone who isn't very mobile, they'll need to skip this excursion. The whole experience took about 3 hours, and it's a LOT of walking. There is a cafe next to the gift shop, so people could wait there for you, but it would be a long wait.

How is it possible not to like? There are 2 caves: the Mammut one and the Giant Ice one. They have different opening hours. You have to take the cable car to the 1st stop. There is probably not time to do all in one day if you don't start early because 2nd stop has the 5 fingers viewing platform attraction and much more.
The temperature inside is really low, so there is no point in coming without a jacket. One of our crew needed to be escorted back because he was freezing, and this made us lose precious time. There is also quite a walk up and down there. It's totally worth it.

What an amazing experience, a must do when you're in the area! We took the cable car up to the mittelstation, from there it was about a 20 minutes hike (up the mountain) to the entrance of the cave. The tour through the cave was nice, not very professional but fun. The group was quite big, but not problem. The ice was incredible!
Do bring a jacket for inside, it's hot! But wearing shorts was fine.

Very interesting guided tour inside the giant ice cave. The ice forms are magnificent. The length of the tour is 800 meters with cca. 500 stairs. It lasts about 50 minutes, you should not miss it anyway!

Unbelievable! Gorgeous! Amazing! Worth the effort! Ice blocks 10 meters tall. Ice 25 meters deep! A hanging bridge with lit up caves and music in the background. Enjoyed every minute of it. Not an easy walk to it and many stairs in the cave itself.

This is a fantastic place. It's really a magical environment. I would 100% recommend coming here if you visit hallstatt or are in the area. The tour groups are really big so try and get a place near the front if you want to hear the guide, or hang back if you want to compose photos without all the other tourists filling your view. Note: there are some lightshows and animatronics that are kind of annoying but it is still worth seeing the ice and rock formations.

We’ve visited this cave on our way back from Krippenstein.
Please don’t forget to book your group at the desk before going up to the front of the cave.

The tour guide spoke German and English, all well explains and showed. It was a great show!

Amazing natural wonder with literal tons of ice. I recommend downloading the audioguide app that tells you info about the cave as it can be hard to hear/understand the human tour guide

A very beautiful place to visit. A great short uphillI hike leads to the cave. It is fairly chilly inside but you don't need a parka. I highly recommend a visit.

The ice cave was amazing but unfortunately when I was there they were under renovation and I didn't see the Eiffel Tower. The price for ice cave is included in the price of the cable car which is 43€ per person.

Absolutely stunning, but...the walk to the entrance of the ice cave is a very steep path. Going up is hard, but going down is even worse. Also, inside the cave there are approximately 500 steps to navigate, and the temperature drops down to minus 3 degrees on the Celsius scale.

One of the greatest natural wonders of the Alps! People come from all over the world come to admire these subterranean Dachstein ice caves.

Gigantic cave glaciers, vast icebergs, frozen cascades of blue-coloured ice and "ice chapels" are just some of the highlights of your tour. These caves are the perfect refuge for humans and animals on cold, rainy days - just as they have been for thousands of years - and on a hot summer's day they are a welcome contrast to the outside world.

Caves are like ancient historic documents - a record of how the world has changed over time. Your tour guide will explain the findings of scientists who have tried to unravel the secrets of the earth's history

Beautiful. About 110 euros for a family of four including cable car and guided ice cave tour. 15mins uphill hiking to reach the entrance of cave after cable car.

Worth visiting this place. If you’re not a fitness person be prepared to walk up the steep way towards the cave

One of the most beautiful ice caves you will ever get to see. Half the way, you need to take the cable car, then the walk to the cave is steep. Proper trekking shoes or sports shoes is a must. Also remember to carry warm jackets as it's cold inside. Once inside, and when the lights come on, its simply awesome, breathtaking. Its a lifetime experience and worth the efforts and the high price.

Truly impressive place with amazing ice chambers. What's also amazing is that place is dog friendly! Just be aware there are quite a lot of stairs so average fitness level is a must.
