The host Marie is nice. The restaurant is romantic. We ordered scotch fillet, it is cooked absolutely right. Garlic bread is also very delicious. We also love their grilled vegetables. Highly recommend if you stay nearby.

Great venue and location. What more can you also for. A must for anyone. We loved just sitting outside and looking out to mt Roland while our dinner was cooked. We will definitely be back next time we come to Tassie.

We stayed in the Wilderness village right next to the restaurant and spent an evening here. It's a cozy restaurant with a lovely fireplace. Food was exceptionally good in generous portions, we ordered a mozzarella garlic bread and scotch fillets, the steak came with salad, chips and sauce, we enjoyed every bit of it. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely spot and oulook. I had feta olive entree carbonara main. Both of good standard. Friendly staff. Killer music played 60s. Grt refuel after long day of bike riding.

If you are a foody, you will love this place. We liked it so much that we went back the next night and it did not disappoint. It was Recommended to us by staff at the ranger station at Mt. Cradle. We are so happy that we took their suggestion. Fresh, locally grown, and generous portions at a reasonable price. The chef and owner, Marie, knows her stuff. The ocean trout and salmon were perfectly cooked, as well as the steak filet. The root vegetables were fresh and tasty. Be sure to get the homemade Date figgy pudding. We had the apple/rhubarb crumble on night 2. Photos are of the Salmon and the chef special ground lamb kebabs. Excellent!

Such great food, I had a steak with shrimp and my wife had the salmon. It came out correctly cooked and tasted amazing. Also the sides were well prepared and fresh, maybe even garden fresh from outside. Definitely will go again. The owners there are also very friendly and helpful.

Edit: We went back and they didn't disappoint. They had a lamb cuts dish on special which was also prefect. This is definitely the best place to eat for many miles around, because we've stayed here for for 4 days already, asking all the locals and the other food in town is no comparison, the nearest place we've had as good a food was in Launceston.

Definitely call ahead, they cater to large groups as well and sometimes they will just be overbooked.

It’s an awesome experience to have a dinner in the Old Black. Yes it’s worth to driving especially there. Amazing roasted vegetables and salmon. Dumplings are also impressive.

I Love the black stump. The food is always amazing and the owner and the staff are very friendly. Once when I went there they opened exactly for my family. I recommend making a reservation and if the sticky date pudding is on the menu to get it, it is to die for. Last time I was there the owner was the only staff member and he did I great job with making the food, getting orders and talking with his customers. Best restaurant in Tasmania

I would consider the Old Black Stump one of the biggest highlights of our trip to Tasmania. The food there is absolutely delicious, and at a reasonable price too!
The restaurant is set in a beautiful location, not too far from Sheffield.

Since we were staying at the Gowrie Park Wilderness Village next door, we actually extended our stay just to go to the Old Black Stump once more!

My partner and I went for tea last night and the food was exceptional. It was some of the best fish I have ever had, and my partners steak was cooked beautifully. You could definitely tell that the produce was fresh and simple but cooked so well. I would hands down recommend it for dinner, and the portion sizes were generous and sevice was lovely

A complete find! Even though the owner had no other staff to help him that night, he whipped up an amazing for our family of 5 and about 3 other groups. Very impressive indeed. Lovely wine selection too. Definitely a must if you are around Cradle Mountain.

What a gem. What started with possibly the loveliest owner greeting us, ended in the loveliest food to match. Their surf and turf created so much envy across the diners that three other tables promptly ordered it when it was carried aloft to the first table. Perfectly cooked, an astounding amount and quality of prawns, and the chips were excellent too. Very happy!

Arrived 20 mins before closing and the owners were amazing in giving us a meal even after they had begun closing up. I had a great porterhouse steak with some very nice vegetables - simple but wonderfully cooked. Very welcoming staff and great music in the background too! Definitely the place to go in the area.

Outstanding food and service! A treasure, really worth the trip!!

We ate here twice and the food was excellent. Some of the best we had in Tasmanian. The steaks were the flawless. The ambiance is fantastic, rustic small town vibe, everyone really friendly and relaxed. The owner was so nice and the waitress Amy was so nice and friendly and helpful. We wished all service staff were like her!
