The best place in the world to see Tasmanian Devils (just make sure you’re prepared to stay up until the early morning to see them!) The location was amazing and Len was awesome. I saw many birds like the Scrubtit, Brown Goshawk, Pink Robin, and more. The highlight was of course the devils and the platypus. Len put out fresh chicken which brought in a devil at 3:45 AM. The mountains are pristine and gorgeous. The river walk was incredible. Only 1 hr 15 from Cradle Mountain which made for a fun day trip. Thank you Len for a great stay and all your knowledge and insights!

This was a fantastic stay! Len was very knowledgeable and it was fantastic to see two platypuses down at the river and two Tasmanian devils while we were there. The cabins were very cozy and the nature in the area was really amazing. It is such a beautiful area. We did some of the walks in the area that were suggested by Len which we all really enjoyed. Thank you for providing us with such an AMAZING experience!

Excellent place to stay a few nights if you enjoy wildlife and wildnerness. The cabins are roomy and comfortable, you can do some fine hiking, but best of all is the chance to see the Tasmanian Devils in the wild. We stayed in a queen fauna cabin and saw devils two nights, about 2-3 meters from the porch. A Tasmanian boobook (owl) even came in to grab some of the food (chicken) put out for the devils. Pat and Len are great hosts. We are so glad we stayed here.

If you love adventure and being away from crowds, this is for you. Cody rustic cabins in the middle of nowhere. Owners are very knowledgeable about the area.
Owners put meat out at night, and we watched Tassie devils and meat eating possums feasting.
A memorable part of our trip

Like many others, I am blown away. This is for the nature and wildlife lovers who can appreciate and enjoy a simple and cozy retreat. Len and Pat have made a wonderful nature reserve, a place teeming with a variety wildlife and tree species, even including a special forest walk through their protected land to view the trees and the cave (30 mins - 1 hour walk). Alternatively for the serious hikers, you can walk out the door to the Black Bluff/Paddy's Lake trail head, which was amazing. The platypus tour was great, I highly recommend that and watching the Tasmanian Devils at night (along with many other animals) was the highlight! You must be willing to stay up as they are most active in the middle of the night.
Special thanks to Len for our trip, we will be back.

Note: Take books and activities to use in down time (no TV) and ensure you have all cooking items/ingredients (fully self contained).

This place exceeded my expectations in every way. The location is magical and the grounds are pristine and nature-filled. We rested and unplugged in the cozy cabin and had a lovely family Christmas. We appreciated the extra touches like a Christmas tree decoration and chocolates!

The cabin was clean and well-equipped. The kitchen has everything we needed for cooking (and when you come you do need to plan ahead and bring your own food- this is a remote location). The beds were so comfortable and warm.

We did lots of hiking both on the property and off- this property has the most beautiful hiking. We also hiked Leven Canyon (easier, shorter) and Black Bluff trail (much harder and longer but with breathtaking views at the top).

We saw lots of nature over the three days we were there- pademelon, platypus, echidna, Tasmanian devil, kookaburra, wild hen, lots of other birds. Len is so knowledgeable about all of it and so patient answering our questions!

Overall this place is peaceful and lovely. I would definitely come back someday!

What a sensational place! Located in a nature reserve, the cabins are surrounded by native wildlife and a beautiful river flows on the boundary of the site. Len, the owner is a dead set legend and a great guy. He's always ready to have a chat about anything Tasmania, wildlife and knows every hike within a 50km radius. There's so much to love about the place, especially the little touches like fresh firewood and kindling appearing on the balcony each day, putting out meat every night for the devils and doing daily platypus spotting down by the river. Can't wait to go back, especially when Len stocks the river with some thumping brown trout!

We stayed 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The cabins were very comfortable and had plenty of space for my family of five. We were so happy to see a wild Tasmanian devil right outside our cabin door. The area was beautiful and teeming with wildlife. We really enjoyed sitting in front of a cozy fire at night and listening to all the animals outside. It really is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors and nature.

Amazing place to spend 2 nights, could easily have been more. Rooms were clean and very cosy with everything you need to prepare meals. The host Pat was so brilliant in making sure we had all information we needed. We were lucky enough to see a platypus a tassie devil and some wallabies
.

Note: place is about 20mins away from phone reception and you have to bring your own food in to cook.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mountain Valley Wilderness Holidays. Though the cabins are very basic they have everything you need for a self-catered holiday and are fitting with an off the grid location that immerses guests in nature. That, coupled with epic hiking opportunities, wildlife encounters (we watched Tasmanian devils right outside our cabin) and Len’s daily dusk walk to watch the platypus as well as his glow worm tour, made our stay at MVWH truly magical. We highly recommend for nature and wildlife lovers.

Words cannot describe enough how much I love this place. Len and Pat are really nice, and they went all the way to help us with anything. Everything well organized, and it lies right at the start of penguin cradle trail (connecting to overland track).

What you can do here, is not just staying:
_See wild animals eating in front of your door at nights: devils, pademelons, quolls, possums,…
_See the cave, with glow worms
_See platypus

Recommend time to come is September and the Autumn, when the place is not fully booked, and Len and Pat won’t be too busy taking care of tourist groups (so that they can take you for as much experience as possible)! Thjs place had helped us to raise much more awareness on the Tasmanian wildlife.

Sensational wildlife accommodation! A must visit for wildlife lovers or anyone wanting to get among nature. No wifi, no mobile service… bliss! We saw 5 Tassie devils, 2 spotted quolls, 2 platypus, countless pademelons and possums. Well worth the drive.

An off the grid, wildlife gift to tasmania. We stayed two nights, and stayed up til 1:30am to see the devils in the nature, but also got to spot platypus, glow worms, many pademelons, spotted tail quolls and possums. Facilities include kitchen, fireplace and bathroom. Len and Pat, the owners, are full of wisdom, and so happy to share knowledge. Loved it and would recommend!

Tranquil and tucked away, you get the chance to just breathe for a moment and take in nature. Owner of these cabins, Len, has volumes of knowledge of the flora & fauna in the area. He will make certain that you have every chance to see up close quoll, devils, pademelon & plenty of birds. For the adventurous he will also take you to a sunken cave to see glow worms. The cabin decor is dated and simple but provides all that you need for a comfy stay. Don't forget to bring food supplies! It has been a long time since I have seen so many stars in the night sky ☺✨✨✨

What a perfect place to rest and enjoy nature ! Len and his wife, locals since 1971 if I’m correct are so so nice ! We enjoyed listening Len’s stories about the place, Tasmania’s history, wildlife and our daughter 2yo loved to see animals outdoor and even on the porch at night. We loved this place and we felt like we were at home in a very comfy cabin with beautiful views of the Black Bluff mountain. We stayed for 2 nights but we could have stayed more ! Hikes from the cabin, Leven canyon park to hike with great look out of the river. It feels so good to spend time in a remote place with such nature lovers as Len, it was a real pleasure !

Boutique cabin house child friendly with a
seperate kitchen and bathroom. Rugged mountains and enchanting valleys are here to feast your eyes and ears. An ethical interaction with wildlife - tasmania devils /pademelons. Glowworm tour is a spectacular. Strongly recommended to stay and will be back for sure!

Words cannot describe enough how much I love this place. Len and Pat are really nice, and they went all the way to help us with anything. Len is very passionate with the surrounding nature, and you will be awed with his facts about the place (the eucalyptus tree, the cave,…).

Recommend time to come is September and the Autumn, when the place is not fully booked, and Len and Pat won’t be too busy taking care of tourist groups (so that they can take you for as much experience as possible)! A peaceful & special place of remote wilderness amongst an amazing backdrop of mountains & forest. A unique private nature reserve where you can sit inside your cabin watching the local birdlife such as fairy wrens & kookaburra. A very special experience watching the tasmanian devil feed right infront of your cabin at night from food the owners had put out. Who needs a tv when you get to witness all this amazing entertainment! The owners Len was very informative & knowledgeable about the wildlife & ecosystem of Tasmania, we really enjoyed a guided walk down to the creek where we saw Platypus swimming up the water. There is no need to go anywhere as by just sitting here you feel really at home in your warm rustic cabin sat watching the wildlife. We will definitely be returning & it's great to see people protecting such precious wilderness & wildlife. It really is any nature lovers dream to stay here. Thanks for having us we will be back! What an amazing experience. This place is wildlife heaven. All credit to Len and his passion for the wilderness. The log cabins are beautiful and cosy with a lovely fire place and seeing so many quolls and devils was such a special moment. If I could, I would live here. Thank you Len!
