Fresh air, not crowded Mo-Fri. Curious that you can find rare kinds of fish in waters. Enjoy ! 😍

Well-marked trail with plenty to see. Good public transportation from point to point, Kid and dog friendly with a swingset park at the top, cafe and free street parking.

A well maintained and marked trail suitable for all ages and easily accessible from downtown Sofia either by car or the 63 bus (Golden Bridges is the last stop and the bus runs roughly every 30 minutes). It follows the path of the Stone River giving initial views of the giant boulders in the river. It connects with the network of trails and huts/hotels that cover this part of the mountain. It's a steady uphill gradient and the 2.5km to Kumata hut will take around an hour depending on the time of year.
It's also where you'll find the largest high mountain peat reserve in Bulgaria

Nature amazing presentation. A beautiful place for a walk. These boulders are huge, pictures can't tell you how much. it looks like god took huge stones and created a river.
Don't miss! Consider atleast 1 hour.

Great hike. 11 out of 10
We got a taxi to here from the centre and then walk back to via the boyana church and the water fall. It took a good few hours great the path set out so hard to get lost.

PLACE NAME: Golden Bridges, Vitosha Mountain, in Sofia, Bulgaria

STARS: 4.5/5

WE VISITED ON: Sunday, 23 April 2023, at around 1700

HOW WE GOT THERE: From our hotel, B1 Hotel Sofia, we walked across the street and caught tram/train #7 to the end. We walked about 15 minutes to catch bus# 63; the bus ride was about 50 minutes each way. Walked about 1-2 minutes to the boulders. Then, when we were ready to leave, we took bus #63 back down. **NOTE, the bus# 63 pickup location was not in exactly the same place as drop off, but a little ways farther up. Then we walked 15 minutes to catch tram/train #4 back to our hotel.

Really pleased with the public transportation here, although we don’t understand why 90+ percent of passenger don’t tag on. Maybe they’re exempt (kids, elderly)?? NOTE: at a few stops, ticket checkers hopped onboard. Again, they only checked some people’s tickets, but always checked ours.

On both the tram/train and buses, you simply tag on at any of the ticket reader machines on board with a pre-paid transportation card or credit card. If you want to pay cash, pay the driver (who 50% of the time “doesn’t have change”, so try to have exactly 2Lev per person each leg). Driver gives you a ticket for each person to scan at the tag on point. No tagging off on these rides.

PS Don’t follow the instructions on Google Maps via bus, as it said we had to take bus# 63Z after 63, and had more walking involved. Also, the bus stops marked on there were not accurate.

AMBIANCE: transportation was fairly average in all ways, surprisingly not crowded, and a little too warm for me (although the 4th leg had some open windows which helped cool it down).

DRESS: wear good walking shoes, especially if you’re doing any of the hikes. Also, the temperature was cool at that elevation when we went, so a light jacket this time of year is perfect.

DRIVERS: no English, but we got by without Google Translate

PRICING: we paid 2Lev pp for each leg of the journey, so a total of 16Lev ($9) for the entire trip for the 2 of us. Much cheaper than the paid tours we saw advertised.

SAW / DID: the ride up/down the mountain was forest… lots of pretty trees. Golden Bridges is a “river of boulders”, no actual bridges, BTW. There were only 2 groups ahead of us taking photos on boulders, so the wait for our turn was less than 15 min for a clear view up. There were hiking trails, but we didn’t have time.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: tram/train & bus— signs in English would be so helpful (both on the vehicle and at the stations).

RECOMMEND?: yes, if you’re a nature lover

Like a fairy tale forest. Good food in the kiosks. Easy and cheap to reach by public transport.

Great place to come for a picnic or a hike. There is a public bus to the Golden Bridges right from the Sofia center which is a great plus. It takes about an hour to get there as the bus is driving very slowly on the serpentine, however there is an air conditioning inside. As soon as you get there you can see many places to chill. Also the stones by which the place is named are right there. I would say the Golden Bridges are quite crowded especially at weekends, however if you are going for a hike then you will lose the crowd eventually. Could be cleaner near the benches

Great place to get away from the 35 degrees in the city and go to the refreshing mountains near sofia to enjoy very refreshing day. You can go with a car or support an more eco variant by going with the public transport that goes directly to them or take the long path from Knyazevo to the Golden bridges that by itself is a hike that Is worth it and I recommend. It promotes healthy lifestyle physically and mentally and people should strive to do more kinds of this activity. Perfect to go with friends or family.

Great site for leisure walks with kids or just lazy adults (like us, LOL). Beautiful and well marked tracks with lots of huts around where you can have a hot soup, a tea or just a cup of coffee!

Worth seeing, half an hour to walk and jump over the stones.

Awesome place for a rest during a hike! There's a bistro with warm soups, tea, wine, generic barbecue, and just about everything you'd expect out of a mountain food place.

Wonderfull place for every season there is something to do. In the winter there is ski and sleigh and a great lodge to drink some mulled wine and a hot meal in the comfort of a woodburning stove.

Great place for a hike. Definitely wear winter shoes, even at the end of April as there could be quite a lot of snow and it could be slippery. Nice spot for drone shots. Stones are huge and true wonder of mother nature. Definitely worth a visit. You can park literally next to the site. Recommend.

It was awesome! The time that we went (late march) was almost perfect! I say almost because the path was still covered in ice and there was snow covering some of the rocks), but the air temperature was really nice and the rocks were fun to climb around on. Really unique place.

It's a very good hiking spot, not far from Sofia, you can get there by a bus. The trail is fairly easy and there are a lot of places you can stop for a drink or food on the way. Just make sure you check the weather before you head in too deep, otherwise you might get caught by the rain, like it happened to us. Won't forget that experience too soon.
