The only way of getting to the islands - vehicle and walk on options. Truly recommend booking your ferry ticket ahead of time. The ferry itself felt almost like a cruise - super clean and plenty of spots to sit. There is also a mini cafeteria area with decent food (recommend the sweet potato fries and triple o Chipotle sauce). At the main dock by horseshoe bay, there is a clean washroom as you wait to be boarded. Great experience.

Love taking the ferry. When it all works right, it is a great escape. Passed through here many a time over the years. Some days you are ahead, some days there are delays. I use reservations as much as possible when the traffic warrants it. Pack your patience and if you are stuck for a while, sneak off to the nearby stores for a coffee or food.

Took the Horseshoe Bay ferry to Gibson this Saturday morning, 7:30 am sailing. BC Ferry listed sailings as sold out but it didn't seem that way on the Ferry.

Nonetheless, the ride was calm and view with the sun rising was amazing.
Ferry was clean and staff was very friendly.

Great trip to Gibsons as this was only our 2nd time ever there.

I last visited here 15 years ago and it certainly has changed for the better.

More coffee places and eating places before you head off on the Ferry . I also noticed condos now built overlooking the Bay 😳

The upgraded departure area for the Ferries is beautiful. Great Customer Service for tickets and boarding passes and any other questions you might have.

At departure lounge there are washrooms , lots of seating and vending machine for coffee and snacks . ALSO WAS VERY QUICK AND ORGANIZED BOARDING.

On the Ferry which is very large you can buy food , coffee tea and snacks..there is also a play area for children. Lots of great views to take photos

Highly recommended for getting to the Islands from Vancouver mainland.

A very pleasant & calm ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay (near Vancouver) to Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. The "Queen of Oak Bay" ferry we rode was clean and spacious, the employees courteous, the cafeteria had good food & drink options, and there was a ton of comfortable seating to choose from. The light-colored wood floors & wood paneling & large picture windows make the ferry feel bright & cheery. My friends & I walked to the upper "outside" deck during the trip & walked the perimeter. But even in late May, it was a bit chilly & windy, so we went back below decks, where most passengers are ensconced. I would gladly ride BC Ferries again.

Easy booking, absolutely nice sail to Vancouver island. We saw dolphins, whales and a incredible sunset. I can just recommend this sail.

Great terminal..Not much rush. Just reaching there takes about 40 minutes from Granville It you catch the express bus that's fast it will take 40 minutes but keeps going without much stoppage. I went there at the last moment to catch the sunshine coast ferry within 15 minutes if departure time and once within 10 mi utes if departure.. ur every time I got the ferry. So overall a good experience. The ferry is also clean and beautiful with everything as should be on a ferry and reaches the sunshine coast on 40 minutes.

The terminal of this ferry is very odd to me! Weird layout but probably because I m American. Wish they have more open areas to walk around and enjoy the surrounding views while we are waiting for our sailing time. Also, we discovered the ferry is not operating per the schedule that was provided online. It was about 15 to 20 mins late. No announcement was made regarding the delay. The ferry and ride itself were smooth, entertaining, and what a view once the sailing starts. The only complaint I have was the way they place the signs and where the button to open the ferry door was silly. Took us forever to find that button! Lol

Canada accepts tourists very gently and easily, everywhere you can pay with your credit card, a lot of young people, everyone is in a hurry somewhere, smiling, it’s so easy to breathe and feel here, the ferry is amazing!

very organized crew and good signage to direct you to the right ferry. a foot bridge connects the auto queue wait area to the village for refreshments; announcements are made when you should return to your auto. reservations are available for an additional fee or on a stand by basis.

The small community here is a treat.
If you’re waiting for the Ferry to Nanaimo and have an hour or more before boarding it’s worth going out to explore.
Lots of interesting shops, galleries, and restaurants.
I fear, with all the recent development along the far share in town, that maybe it’s been “discovered”.
Still well worth getting out if only to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Travelled on the ferry with our 53’ RV without an issue. Highly recommend booking in advance to ensure your spot. Fast and efficient loading and off loading. The Queen of Alberni was the ship and there was at least a half hour wait for the concession once we got top side.

The start of the trip is the most picturesque.

Hold on to your hat if it’s windy.

My husband and I brought coffee and sat on a broken tree trunk under the shady oak trees. There was a fabulous guitarist who played a sweet country song for us—an excellent place to enjoy the mountains and the waters of the bay while the ferries pass by. ❤❤

We walked on for a trip to Sechelt/Gibsons. I highly recommend walking on if you're a tourist and can use transit on arrival. Parking + the ferry ticket + transit is still much cheaper than driving on and there's typically no wait, as for vehicles. I skipped the long lineup at the cafeteria, knowing the food would be pricey. The cashier at the gift shop was pleasant and helpful, though. I always prefer to sit outside for the fresh air and amazing view.

Probably one of the best parts about venturing out to Vancouver Island. When the ocean is perfect and the wind is low, it's a treat for any local or tourist ready for adventuring British Columbia.
