The best employment advice I got. I met this person named Ms. Indira Banerjee, felt so comfortable with her. She shared a lot of wisdom and her experience. She gave me advice on how to correct my resume and cover letter. So helpful!

I came to 2nd Chance for a resume and cover letter upgrade and I met the most sweetest employment counsellor by the name Gisella. I came in so broken-hearted and low, looking for guidance and Gisella truly helped to lift my spirits up again. She gave me hope to push through and showed me exactly what I needed to do to get back on track again. She helped me apply to numerous jobs and I currently have an Interview next week. I would to say thank you to 2nd Chance for all of their support. Especially, a big thanks goes to Gisella for being a super star 💫!

I went to 2nd Chance for help with my job search three times, and each time I worked with Jennifer.

The first time she helped me land a job with a landscaping company. Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be too much trouble, but there were large gaps in my resume and I didn’t have any recent references. Jennifer coached me, helped me, and was patient.

Landscaping wasn’t for me, and I asked her to find me a job in an office, possibly in journalism or administration. I had no education, yet Jennifer found me a position transcribing discovery procedures for a professional court reporting business (still not sure how she did that). Again, Jennifer coached me and helped me with references and the like.

I wasn’t ready for that position, and then came my current position with the school board. The application for the board was rigorous (they have very specific procedures with regards to references and the like, as you’d expect). Here Jennifer gave expert advice, helped me when I was frustrated and guided me through the whole process with professionalism and competence.

For me, 2nd Chance wasn’t just resume help: anyone can do that. I felt like I had a case worker, that Jennifer was invested in and committed to my success. I have a difficult work history, with gaps in my resume and sparse references, but Jennifer went above and beyond to work with me and get a position that not only benefits me, but my children as well. It’s the best employment agency I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot (for comparison I went to Lutherwood: it took them two weeks to return my call and then they said they couldn’t help me).

I hope your experience with 2nd Chance is the same as mine!

Not just for people who don't currently have a job, they were very helpful in my pursuit to further my current career. Even though the person that helped me didn't know the info needed he was able to find the info quickly and efficiently. The people seem like they truly just want to help.

I had my first appointment at Second Chance Employment with Monica. She’s pleasant, friendly and genuinely cares about her clients. She edited my resumé a couple times for different jobs and I was pleased with the changes she made. She also edited a couple cover letters. I was so happy when she told me that my writing is really good and that she only made a few changes. She listens well. She’s very resourceful and organized. She have a lot of knowledge to share. I felt completely relaxed with her and my worries about not getting a job melted away because I truly trusted that she would help me get a job.

By the end of November, I managed to get a seasonal job, so I didn’t need her services until that job was finished.

When the job was finished in February, she told me about a program they started in January called Ways To Work. The program helps prepare young people for the workforce and supports them with getting a placement (job) afterwards. While the participant is working as a placement employee, Second Chance uses government funding to pay part of the salary as an incentive for employers. If the placement goes well, the participant will get a permenant job. The program is completely free. It is 5 weeks long.

The facilitators, Shanel and Conor, are outstanding. They are amazing people with big hearts. They are friendly, outgoing, love to joke around, laugh and smile. They were well organized, efficient, knowledgeable, great leaders and presenters. They had a variety of activities planned that met my needs and I hope the needs of the other group partticpates. It was a pleasure to get to know them and the other women in my group.

Another person that stood out for me was Joel. While I haven’t had a meeting with Joel, I got to know him a bit while I was in the program. He’s very kind and reassured me when I needed reassurance about some concerns I had. I admire his expertise and knowledge about employment.

I highly recommend Second Chance Employment. They have an exceptional group of people who work hard to help you get a job, especially if you are really struggling. There’s no shame in getting help.
