The best sunset and waterfront restaurant in Annapolis Royal. Our favourite place for delicious seafood (scallops, lobster or fish) and Austrian schnitzels. Great service as well.

Omg best scalloped mushroom risotto with grilled salmon atop was a real hit for me and for hubby, the scalloped mushroom risotto with scallops and shrimp so delicious.
This was followed by mixed berry cheese cake we split not overly sweet hit just right! 100% recommend and our waitress was outstanding; very sweet, attentive and a hard worker.

We made a reservation for dinner and were seated right by the window facing the water, which was lovely. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and the tableware was adorable with delicate designs. The restaurant seems popular for older couples and friends, but equally welcoming to younger folks. I ordered the lobster linguine with iced tes, and had an apple crumble and black tea for dessert. The lobster linguine was delicious, the pasta was chewy and coated in lobster sauce, with cooked carrots and veggie circles mixed in. It had a good amount of lobster in big chunks and was garnished with a lemon slice. My friend had ordered the Thai Chili Lobster, and she said the flavour was good - not spicy but very flavourful. The iced tea was not your typical nestea, it was really good. My dessert, the apple crumble, had a side of vanilla ice cream. It was sweet and had the perfect texture, and the tea was great for balancing out the sweetness. The tea came in a pretty green tea cup and pot, and the pot could fill up 2 cups. The service was excellent, our server was very nice and talked to us a bit about her life in Nova Scotia and gave us great recommendations for places to check out.For the food, the service and the atmosphere, this restaurant was wonderful.

Atmosphere is amazing. Service was awesome. Beautiful views of the water…now let’s talk about the food. Oh wow!!! The highlight was Definately the Kaiser Schnitzel. It was beyond amazing. The French onion soup ranked very high. The best we have had in a very long time. The lobster cocktail was also very nice. Price point was less than we expected it would be for the quality of food. Well done Indeed.

Our group dinner was taken care of with kindness, expertise and flair. Attention to detail was remarkable - table settings, food, and service delivery . Thank you ! Just Wow!

Excellent service by the owner Amanda and her team. Clean and beautiful decore with Austrian art and history. Beautiful classical music in the background and interesting art pieces enhance the experience. We didn't have a booking but Amanda accommodated us with much warmth. We loved everything we ordered. Will visit again.

The lady that ownes the place lost her husband to covid, she was such a nice person.
She was training a young man to serve and you could tell she is a good employer by the way she treated him.

We loved Compose for the following three reasons. One, the owner. Amanda is very involved in her restaurant and treats her customers in a splendid manner. Be server, Katy was equally involved, friendly and knowledgeable about the servings.The second was the setting. The restaurant sits on a rise overlooking a wonderful River. The Third, was the food. My wife had the lobster risotto. It was spectacular. I had the pan-fried scallops. They were equally good. Finally we topped it off with Apple strudel and ice cream. Amanda makes these in the winter and serves them during the season. If I ever come to Nova Scotia, I will surely visit this restaurant again.

Right by the sea, this restaurant has great food. Owner as well as staff are very helpful and make you feel at home. Menu is great and every dish is cooked fresh. If you come to Annapolis Royal, you owe it to yourself to have a meal here. We had a memorable supper here on patio looking at the sea and can't wait to try more dishes.

This was the best food I’ve had in Nova Scotia. I had the scallop linguine and holy it was amazing. The Apple Strudel is on its way and I’m sure it will be just as good. The atmosphere is breathtaking (see photo) and the service was so kind. 10/10 will be coming back ASAP! (Mid October)

Whenever we have out of town guests and the offer comes about to take me to my favorite restaurant, the answer is always the same: Restaurant Compose’ ! The atmosphere is perfect with unobstructed views of the bay, elegant but simple decor and staff is always warm and welcoming. And food!! Never disappoints. My absolute favorites are the sautéed scallops and the GF pan fried haddock. My guests have raved about the lobster risotto and French onion soup…and the desserts!!

Stopped to eat on the way from Yarmouth and we were pleasantly surprised!! Food was DELICIOUS!! Staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive and we sat outside with a view of the water!! I had the scallops with spaetzle...both were amazing! Gord had the lobster risotto and it was one of the best risottos we've had a restaurant! Perfectly cooked and flavored well! Dessert we had the strudel and chocolate cake (they were out of the top 3) and I would pass on the cake but strudel was delicious. Such a wonderful find and would love to go back!

We had a wonderful dinner there this evening. We sat on the patio overlooking the water and had a great smoked salmon appetizer, some of the best seared scallops I have ever eaten, and a cherry-chocolate dessert. Highly recommended!

Compose is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants in the region. Fine food. Fine location. Fine staff. The owner rules the kitchen and she is equally at home with local seafood, especially the Digby scallops, and with her native Austian schnitzel. We were here two nights. Both dinners were exquisite. My wife had the scallops and the salmon. I had two schnitzel variations. Mouth-watering. And the presentation was excellent. Did we like it? Enough to wish we were staying longer!

We enjoyed a delicious dinner in a wonderful setting! We ordered the garden salad, French onion soup, kaiser schnitzel and sea scallops. Everything was perfectly cooked and flavourful. The seared scallops were soft on the inside and the vegetables were beautifully presented on a colourful vegetable purée. One cannot beat the setting in this lovely room or on the patio as the sun sets. Service was attentive, friendly and efficient and the owner/chef was delightful. Perfect experience on our first night in town.

Excellent food, great cream cheese strudel, perfect view from the rear patio. A most enjoyable experience. Definitely would return and recommend.
