I was passing through town for work and decided to order from here. It did not disappoint! The portions were great. The service was awesome. The food...it is literally the best Caribbean food I’ve ever had. I got the jerk chicken and ox tail combo. The savouriness of the meat, and the perfectly made rice made me wish I lived close, so I can have it daily!

Come for the jerk. Tried this place a few years ago and recall it was good. Then tried it today as I was in Newcastle. Even better this time. Awesome flavours. We had the jerk chicken, pork and oxtail. Everything was very tasty. Jerk reminded me so much of Jamaica. Well seasoned (maybe a tad bit too much salt but that could be me). Service was excellent. Chef came out and really pleaseant. Nice guy. Keep up the good work. Will be back.

I had an exceptional experience! vibrant atmosphere, coupled with the authentic Jamaican décor, made for an inviting and enjoyable setting. The jerk chicken was perfectly spiced, tender, and juicy. The oxtail stew was incredibly rich and comforting, and the plantains were cooked to perfection. Overall, this place is a gem for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Jamaican cuisine. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning!

Always excellent! LOVE that you can order fries with your meal. The jerk chicken is always amazing. We have done a lot of takeout but recently dined in for lunch and was amazed at how hot the food came out! Fresh fresh fresh!

The food here is amazing. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food received. My only criticism is the service received was a bit chaotic, that being said it did not affect our experience. The waitress’ were both extremely friendly and the place was really busy with takeout so we were understanding to this.

We loved the ambient atmosphere. The wall water fountain is beautiful and their signage on the wall is beautiful.

The food is absolutely delicious. My friend loved the peanut punch. I absolutely loved my escoveitch fish and my husband loved his jerk chicken. The portions are large and can be shared if you are not a large eater.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Newcastle and well worth the drive :)

TIP: Food is made from scratch, so recommend you order online and it will be ready when you arrive for eating.

Da Taste was Da-Licious

Based on several recommendations we decided to dine in for a Friday night dinner.

We were quickly greeted and seated by a hostess. She brought us our menus and set out cutlery which came in a white linen napkin.

We were informed that they were offering half price chicken wings on this night.

After checking out the menu we settled on an order of the jerk BBQ chicken wings, a chicken Jamaican patty, beef Jamaican patty, fried chicken dinner and jerk chicken roti.

The Jamaican patty and chicken wings were served first. It was all delicious.

The chicken wings had an excellent fry on them. The jerk spice was also pretty spicy which I enjoyed. Perhaps some of the best chicken wings I had ever been served. At 1/2 price it was an excellent deal and I would have them again.

Our main entrees came and everything was steaming hot. Our server let us know if we needed any extra sauce and gravy we were welcome to it at any time.

The jerk chicken roti looked amazing. Had excellent flavour and seasoning. The roti itself was also delicious.

The fried chicken dinner came with coleslaw, rice and beans. Everything tasted great. The coleslaw I enjoyed a lot. The rice and beans were delicious too. The fried chicken was mind blowing. I enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend it to all. It was like no other fried chicken I had ever had.

The service was fantastic. Both servers that we dealt with were incredibly friendly and professional. Some of the best service I have had during a dine in restaurant.

Overall the experience was an excellent one. I was very impressed with the food and will be returning to Da Taste for sure.

Placed an order over the phone for pick up. Was greeted as soon as I walked through, very welcoming vibe. Everything smelled amazing in there. Staff were great to speak with and picked up our hot order. Had the Chicken Roti and Jerk Chicken dinner. Good portions are huge and so damn tasty! Everything had the right bite and so glad we stopped in to check this establishment out. Great job everyone!

My first visit to Da Taste is one I will never forget. Da Taste is the best Jamaican restaurant to be had in the GTA. You might not have had your experience yet but I implore you to give them a try and you will never be disappointed. From Antoinette and Mike to Robin and the rest of the staff they will make your visit and dinning a pleasure to come back. The name of this restaurant is very suggestive in what they will give you, Da taste of their oxtail, curry goat, fish, soup, festival, jerk chicken, Rasta pasta and much more time won’t allow to say. This place has become a family heaven for us and friends alike from near and far come for Da Taste. Antoinette, Mike and Robin thank you from my family and friends for money and precious time well spent at your restaurant. My New York family who have dined there also wants to weigh in on the level of satisfaction of the delightful taste of your food, service and atmosphere. We visited DaTaste tonight and as usual the experience was outstanding! The food is truly authentic, delicious and prepared fresh and hot. The portions are generous and the presentation is meticulous. The new cocktail menu is amazing and our server Robyn handpicked and handmade our drinks and they were fantastic! The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. If you haven’t tried DaTaste do yourself a favour and go!!

The food at Da Taste is absolutely amazing!!! You can ask any Caribbean person and they will say it taste like home.

The vibe is great. They have live music on Saturdays that is fun and lively. Definitely a location that is a must experience. Da Taste is my new favourite spot!!

I placed a catering order for 40 people and my crowd was so well fed & happy 🙂 The flavour, quality and portions are outstanding!! The gravies were the perfect companion to the jerk & fried chicken. Thank you so much & will be using you again!!

A fantastic local spot! Robin is so gracious and welcoming, and the food is A+! The jerk chicken isn't too spicy but full of flavour, and the goat curry is excellent with a side of rice and peas. We recommend splitting a pineapple smoothie! Generous portions, great people, definitely worth a stop 😊 P.S. treat yourself to a side of plantains, they're the best!

My husband and I ate here today for the first time and the food was so delicious 😍 We ordered the curry goat, a jerk chicken poutine and two festival. The staff were so friendly - SO unlike other Jamaican restaurants. 10/10 would recommend!!

Truly a great experience! Robin our server was the most gracious and attentive person I've met in a long time. Food, atmosphere and of course service was second to none. You have to experience Jerk pork and you will be back every day.
