Picturesque location. The rooms remind me of dorms. But worth it to be able to walk the property early morning before the tourists and locals start visiting the island midday. Noisy saturday night. Busy island during a beautiful Saturday day. Try to get a room with a view (better airflow)

I recently stayed at Manoir D’Youville for one night. While the room was quite small and there was no AC, the provided fan helped a bit with the heat. However, the outstanding view and the beautiful hotel area more than made up for it. The surroundings are serene and picturesque, making it a lovely place to stay. Overall, a pleasant experience despite the room size and lack of AC.

I had visited this retreat many years ago before it was turned into a "vacation spot" for tourists.
It was a retreat strictly for churches or business conferences: small bedrooms; no ac; cafeteria style food; small library for relaxation; nature walks; Adirondack chairs by the water...quiet, simple, serene.
Years later, the Manoir decided to become a wellness spa, YET attempt to maintain its monastery heritage.
As a simple, no frills retreat it worked well - people didn't expect much because the Manoir wasn't providing much.
Different crowd; different needs.
As a "wellness spa" it sorta fails - the tourist crowd expect alot more for their dollar than an old building with a long history.

Used to be a convent/care home so the rooms are very small & so is the bathroom. No AC, but the windows open. However, the location is AMAZING!!! We stopped on our way to Toronto, and it was perfect! Water all around, deer in the orchard, lovely lawns and water views, and a pub next door in the old dairy!

Wonderful place for a break or a larger conference. Staff were very helpful and out of the food was great.
Formerly a convent retreat centre, rooms are upgraded and comfortable, though still many shared bathrooms.

Great location, a lot of nearby activities (kayak, canoë etc..) and forest walking also close to an 18km trail. Rooms are very clean but are close and not all have in suite bathrooms so be sure to choose the right one for you. Communal bathroom and showers are actually very clean! Great buffer breakfast.

Beautiful place with a rich religious background! The faith is still alive in Quebec and it's beautiful to visit here!

My visit to Manoir D'Youville was during my first trip to Canada ever. During the summer of 2018, I planned to drive cross country and back as I had done many times before. This time the plan included returning westward through some of Canada as a way of switching up my route. I often camp or sleep in the car overnight while on road trips, but sometimes I elect to get rooms. I was fortunate to find this place through my usual way of reserving hotels, Expedia.

It was wonderful! Definitely more than I bargained for, but in a good way! It had more in common with a resort than with a simple hotel. Not only did the building itself have many amenities but the grounds were gorgeous. It is located right beside the St. Lawrence River and one can choose to relax watching the water while lounging in provided deck chairs. The setting reeks of history and I am certain that if one had the time, there would be plenty to learn about the place through research online but also through the staff and other guests. From what I could gather, there is a religious background but no worries if that isn't your background for it is not overbearing at all.

Virturally everyone spoke French and all of the signs and other written materials were in French. When talking with others, every person I encountered was quick to switch to English no problem. I got to chatting with some of the guests, and found that not only were there others like myself from far away, but many guests were locals looking for a quick get-a-way. Incidentally, there happened to be a wedding one of the nights I stayed. It was a large affair. The ceremony itself may have been hosted in a chapel of sorts on the grounds, but I am not certain because my memory is hazy. For all I know, I may just be imagining that, haha. I do remember for certain that there was a large celebration that evening and late into the night which the hotel easily (and quietly) faciliated in spacious ballrooms and dining spaces.

Initially I planned on staying only one night since I reserved a room with the intention of merely resting up as I passed through the region. I quickly realized that Manoir D'Youville was such a fantastic and unusual place and it would be crazy to pass up the chance to really take advantage of what the hotel had to offer. After getting a good night's rest, the next day I wandered the array of fields and vast groves of trees amoungst the buildings in the area which were in various ways associated with the main hotel.

Providing for the guests' enjoyment was important, but of course they also took care of practical needs. I was able to do laundry (for free if I remember correctly) and there was a dining room one could obtain ice from, but only during open hours. The dining room had a luscious menu to choose from for all three meals for an additional charge. This was reasonable considering the room total was such a good deal.

I do not know about what the hotel offered as far as whether there was a range of options for the rooms or whether they were all pretty much like one another... but my room had a small sink, desk, bed, and closet. The window opened and I think the room had a ceiling fan, but there was no AC. The toilet and shower were European style at the end of the hall. There was also a common area down the hall which had the look and feel of a living room with sofas and a large TV. The room also supplied the ability to cook a meal with a small stovetop, some pots and pans, a large sink, and a microwave. One thing noticeably absent was a refrigerator, but for all I know, there may have been other rooms on the premises that offered them.

If you're considering a visit, check ahead with the hotel for local fairs and celebrations. When I stayed, there just happened to be a daytime festival of sorts on the premesis outside... it was a great addition to the stay!

Excellent accomodations overlooking the water. Calm natural environment far enough away from the bustle of the city while still very accessible by car or bicycle. The nearby aquatic center offers a place to kayak, parasail, and canoe. Also, the nearby nature trails allow for lovely hiking. During winter, skis and snowshoes may be rented to enjoy the majesty that surrounds.

This place is not for everyone and that’s exactly why I love it!

What a wonderful change of pace and scenery. The minute you walk into Manoir D’Youville, you're immediately transported into a different era, a time warp if you will. I guess that’s what happens when you decide to lodge at an ex-convent. As I was booking my stay, the initial plan was to find a modest priced room and being a solo traveler, a sense of safety. Turns out, not only were my needs met but so much more was offered to me. Unexpected gifts like simplicity, contemplation and quietness.

As you walk down the main hallway you can learn and appreciate the history of the resort via an artistic narrative of the original founder Sainte Marguerite D’Youville and her congregation of nuns, Les Soeurs Grises. You definitely get a sense of their lives as you walk the exterior grounds. You can find an original flour mill, an orchard, a little holy cave. The Manoir is surrounded by the St-Lawrence River, trees, and plenty of Adirondack chairs to sit your butt in and appreciate the beauty of tranquillity.

Customer service was excellent and you can easily tell these people take much pride in their work, something we don’t see everyday. So thanks! The complementary breakfast is simply outstanding. Hot, fresh and plenty of variety. It puts every single one of my free breakfast experiences to shame.

The excellent food does a good job making you forget you don’t have a bathroom or tv in your room. A communal lavatory is a stretch for me but it was clean. I was under the impression the bathrooms would be divided by gender but they were not. No awkwardness, creepiness or long waiting times to report.

Keep in mind there is no a/c in your tiny room. Along with record breaking temperatures, it was hot as heck! The ceiling fan wasn’t much help. Menopausal women beware :)

I can certainly see why yoga groups, companies seeking a retreat location or anyone looking for serenity would flock to this place as the vibe is super zen -

This buried treasure was certainly the highlight of my trip.

P.S. Don’t forget your bathing suit, great pool!
P.S.S. Added bonus; free wifi and cribbage boards -

The Manoir D'Youville is a beautiful property. The view on the water is nice, and the facilities are very comfortable.

I came here for a retreat and found it was very relaxing and easy to get into a state where you can reflect on life.

Great place to spend time as a couple or with family; leisure walks on pathways, in the orchard, pic-nic tables available, possibility of a ponton ride ($); nature reserve ($) with lots of birdwatching and deers is amazing. Canteen, restaurant and washrooms on-site.

Quiet, safe, peaceful. A view of water, not a city street.

Love the park, especially in the summer. Although sometimes there are too many people for my taste.
