Neudahn Castle

The 5-mile hike at Neudahn offers a moderate level of difficulty with varied terrain, including wooded areas and scenic overlooks. Well conserved of a small castle and for which you don't need to pay admission to enter. The castle itself is empty and has small rooms but add a beautiful hike in the forest to access it and the nice view from the castle top and you have a worth experience. On the way there are several rocks and scenery for nice pictures.

This was one of my favorite hikes in Germany! I would do it again because I know it's kid friendly. One could also easily spend over an hour wandering around the multi-level castle ruins.

Loved this castle! So beautiful and well preserved. You can access both towers and there are 2-3 levels you can explore. The hike up is relatively quick but a bit on the steep side. If bringing smaller children I would definitely suggest a hiking carrier. We used the trail that runs along the train tracks and just parked up the road and walked. This castle is part of a tour and I believe in a circular trail that takes you to Altdahn. However the sign said that was 4.6km away so we just explored these ruins then headed home. There's a Shell gas station along the way as well as this cute bakery called Cafe Zurn.

Nice little walk from the train platform and adjacent campgrounds. Fortified in 1973 but built in the 1100s. We were able to walk thru the whole castle ruins, including several preserved Gothic ceilinged chambers. Fog covered hills in winter. Unique rock formations on the way up called the Hexenpilz or Witch's Mushroom.

Great castle. Easy 5 min walk up the hill. Possible to camp either on the top floor or in one of the covered rooms in the castle. Also have seen people having camp fires. One of the largest local castles.

Quite a steep hike and hard to find the start of the path. Great ruin to wander around, lovely views too

Leider nur über Google Maps wirklich gut zu finden. Von der Straße aus habe ich keinen Wegweiser gesehen. Der Eintritt ist frei. Die Ruine ist in einen noch relativ guten Zustand und kann auch betreten werden. Der Aufstieg dauert vom Parkplatz etwa 15 Minuten für einen geübten Wanderer. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall dort mal vorbei zu schauen wenn man in der Gegend ist. Gleich in der Nähe gibt es auch einen netten Campingplatz direkt am See.

Für Personen die Burgen mögen sollte bei einem Trip im Dahner Burgenland auch die Burgruine Neudahn für einen Besuch eingeplant werden. Allerdings ist der Weg zur Ruine nicht ganz so gut ausgeschildert, für mich war es der erste Besuch und ich bin wohl einen viel zu langen Weg gelaufen weil an einem Weg wohl die Beschilderung fehlte. Parken ist auch nicht so ganz ideal weil der bei Google Maps ausgewiesene Endpunkt direkt bei einem Campingplatz liegt und nicht viel Parkplatz für sonstige Besucher vorhanden ist, oder ich bin einfach am falschen Ort gelandet.
Und Vorsicht, auf dem Weg kann man Wildschweinen begegnen!
Aber trotzdem sehenswert.

Toller Wanderweg zur Ruine.Die Burg befindet sich in einem sehr schönen Zustand mit tollem Ausblick nach allen Seiten. Nach oben geht’s über viele Stufen ( Wendeltreppe) auch ins Innere führt eine Wendeltreppe. Empfehle eine Taschenlampe da es im inneren an einigen stellen dunkel ist

Auch wenn es sich so anhört, die Burg ist nicht neu, sie wurde um 1240 erbaut i. Auftrag des Bischofs v. Speyer. Baulich wurde die Spätstaufische Burg in den 70ern etwas verändert, dass erkennt man an der ursprünglichen Eingangspforte. Markantes Merkmal dieser Burg, die mächtigen Batterietürme und die Maulscharten (Geschützöffnungen). Links von der Anlage finden sich Reste eines Turmes, von ihm verlaufen Teile einer starken Wehrmauer hinab und führten wohl zu einem Flankierturm. Zudem wurde diese Burg durch eine keilförmige Bastion geschützt. Daraus lässt sich eine Umstrukturierung auf Feuerwaffen im ausgehenden Mittelalter schließen. Sehr interessante Burg!

Meine lieblings Burg. Und jeder Weg zu der Burg hat was. Und da gibt es einige Möglichkeiten hinzukommen.

Eine Burgruine auf dem Felsen. Man kann eine Wendeltreppe in der Burg hinauf gehen und die Aussicht auf die Umgebung genießen.
