If for some reason (health, strength or limited time) you can't go all the way down to the island of San Juan Gaztelugatxe, then this spot might be for you.
We went all the way, but still stopped here and spent a while, enjoying the wonderful views from the top. You can see the island with the hermitage (small church) on top of it. Watch the people - like ants - wandering to the island and making their way on top of it. You also can enjoy some of the amazing rock formations of this interesting coastline. Zoom in with your camera or binoculars for better views.
Even though it's a hugely popular place you still - time permitted - can manage to get some good pictures. There's a few benches in case you need to rest your legs, if you are lucky and some of them are still free.

From the parking lot it's not a long walk. 10-15min will do. It's also a good spot to wait, in case some will go down and some of your group can't or won't.

Surely a must-do when in Spains North.

Great viewpoint to see San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. From the parking place there is a short but steep hike down past the restaurant to the viewpoint. When I was there in March 2022 the path to the chapel itself was under renovation.

It takes almost 2 km of walk downhill from the parking to reach the point from where you have to take the stairs all the way up to the monastery. The place is simply breathtaking and offers some awe-inspiring views. While hiking towards the monastery, make sure to take drinking water with you, although I recall seeing a potable water fountain right next to the security cabin. Some snacks would also come in handy while you take a break on a couple of view points on the way to the monastery. A must visit place!

Really beautiful place- well spotted by the producers of "Game of Thrones". Long walk to go down, 9km.

Stunning place to visit, going down the cliff to find out this tiny island linked to the main land by a small bridge where a small church awaits at the top for you to ascend the breathtaking - literally- hundreds of steps leading to it! From there you can also walk to Matxitxaco (4 kms) following a coastal path.

Very well kept and quiet on a cloudy mid-week morning. The walk to the chapel is in good conditions, but steep (return trip has 230m height gained). There are public restrooms and parking free of charge, though it might fill up during busy seasons. The coastline is stunning!

Definitely one of the landmarks of the Vasque country. It became very popular due to GOT and now it’s necessary to get tickets, but tickets are free. It’s quite a walk from the car park to the church, but 100% worth it.

The view compensates a little for the inability to enter the trail and approach the monastery at the bottom. Mirrador is approximately 2-3 minutes from the car park. Parking is free and available 24/7.

An absolutely beautiful view. One of the most spectacular of this region. Definitely worth the long walk.

Amazing. Worth the walk, just take an umbrella and water. 2 hour round trip. You can walk down one way and come back another. Free parking. A cafe near parking area.

There is free parking place, this path was used in Game of Thrones in 7th season as dragon stone, it's not so hard for walking, from parking place up to church it's about 40 minutes and also we've count 241 stairs. 😊

Stunning in it's own right but more special for Game of Thrones fans. A bit crowded though and the carpark not signposted correctly so everyone parks along the road. The actual parking lot is lower down.

So nice. Not crowded at all at the time of our visit. We parked at the Mirador and went hiking to the church. Easy 30 minutes walk-it takes 1,5 hour down to the church and back to the car. Be sure to take some water, a sunblock, a hat, camera and wear sneakers.

Words can not describe the beauty of this place. Also the setting for Dragonstone in Game of Thrones.

Spectacular views. It took us 1.5hrs to go up and down. A bit challenging at the end with approx 200 stairs but totally worth it.
