We had a really wonderful stay here and the food was excellent. Helena and her sister are wonderful and very welcoming hosts. We would definitely come back here.

Love love love. The hostess/owner Helena is a wonderful artist and beautiful, sincere soul who runs this hostel from her heart. Thank you Helena for your warm and inviting hospitality and delicious healthy vegetarian food.

We got lucky the night we stayed and had a (pescatarian) bonus with our dinner— a wonderfully prepared scallop, right in the shell! Plus plentiful portions of salad/beets, bread, rice and veggies, and dessert (plus wine for those who like it). Yummy healthy breakfast with real bread, butter/jam/honey, yogurt, granola, fruit, coffee/tea and milk.

Super comfy beds with sheet and blankets. We slept so well. There are two rooms with two beds each, and then a larger room with the other beds spread out so everyone has a bit of privacy.

It’s more expensive than most albergues, but it’s worth it and it represents the true spirit of the Camino! Finally, starting the day in Azqueta is so much more beautiful (and easier) than starting in Estella. Don’t miss it!!!

Helena, the owner of the La Perla Negra, Perigrino lodging She is amazing and a great cook. So welcoming and kind. She shares her heart with you. She's also a great artist, be sure to look at her paintings. This a must stop on your walk. The sun rises over this small town as your continuing on your Camino walk. Be sure to look back at it in early October.

Make Azquete La Perla Negra a stop on your Camio - it is a place that will stay in the memory - You can rest before the large high and long hill section and Helena is A Force of Nature that will energise you for the coming journey.... Even her Albergue has absorbed her energy and you can feel it. The dorm is in the roof space and you would imagine that it is super hot BUT it is so cool as the breeze blows thru and i had a brilliant sleep there that night. The evening meal had Helena rushing round making sure 'Her Guest' were all well fed and felt welcome and in the morning the food was laid out so even though i left at 5:30am i hed a lovely selection to start my day I stayed there approx sept 11th 2023 AND the bar just a minutes walk away is perfect for that quiet relaxed drink and rest and the view is as good as any on the whole of the Camino walk.Best Regards Helena James...

I staggered in here something like 5 years ago after walking an extra bit because I thought it would make sense to hit the wine fountain in the evening instead of first thing in the morning after staying in Estella. It was one of my surprise Camino highlights, and looking at the recent reviews it is lovely to see that things are still as wonderful now as they were then.

A really warm hostess. The vegetarian food prepared was absolutely delicious. A great place to stay on the Camino Francés away from the big towns. I was there in September 2022. I like to remember. Greetings from Germany and all the best 🙂

Need positive energy? See Helena!
We have only been walking the Camino a few days, and booked beds at La Perla Negra last night. As soon as we walked in the door, we knew it was the right place for us to stay the night. Helena is so warm, welcoming and OMG what a personality with wisdom, artistry and magic!

She actually cured one of our fellow perrigrinos of bad feet while we were there! (Secret concoction of aceto y salt)

Helena’s place is rustic, down to earth and the food she cooks is plentiful and delicious.

We must mention David as her current hospitalero. Helpful and genuinely a great guy.

If you’re a true pilgrim, or wannabe…or simply desire a little blessing and magic - stay overnight and visit Helena.

P. S. The cat is friendly too

I felt at home. I was blessed to find this place after a long day. very nice beds. I was able to rest and had a good view from the balcony. Dinner and breakfast was nice. It was refreshing to have some oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast.

Stayed on 30.8. on my Camino Frances. The most amazing accommodation on my way. Great food, unusual rooms. Great hostess, great group ( 2 Italian girls and 1 Korean girl). Thank you very much for all

One of our best stays during the camino! The host is warm and welcoming and super helpful - it really felt like home! Comfortable and clean bathrooms, nice dinner room, cozy sleeping area and even a small balcony. And the food was healthy and delicious!

The Camino will provide a wide range of albergue experiences, but this was the best by far. The owner was fully attentive. We had a wonderful dinner and breakfast. The upper level lounge area is perfect for pilgrim conversations before bed time. Fond memories for life.

Had a wonderful stay. Finally some quiet space. Feels more like home than a private albergue or hostel.

Ambiance- Spacious! Relaxed and homey. Capacity of about 10-11, so it's not like an albergue with too many people.

Rooms- There are two private rooms with 2-3 beds. The shared room have 2-3 beds as well. All the beds are single NOT bunk beds.

Food- Vegetarian meals, mostly organic unless organic option is not available. It's hard to find veggies along the Camino and this is one of those rare places to get fresh tasty salads and your fill of veggie fiber ;)

Amenities - Patio, laundry, shared common areas, shared bathroom and shower.

Host- Helena is a kindred soul who really cares about each and every pilgrim and treats them like family. She always go the extra mile to care whether you have blisters or knee pain or something else. She makes the place special and unique.

A highlight of the Camino! Stayed an extra day to rest and rejuvenate in a warm, welcoming environment. Helena and Peter make everyone feel at ease and at home. Helena is a gourmet cook - no exaggeration - and the evening communal meal is convivial, sumptuous, and generous. Breakfast is available starting at 5 a.m. We wish this couple the very best and are very grateful for their kindness and openness. Official lists state there are only 5 beds, but there are actually 12 single beds (no bunk beds). Highly recommended.

Best meal we’ve had at an Albergue - bread, tomato salad, tortilla, chickpea and vegetable stew, quinoa, and ice cream (all vegetarian). The breakfast was also lovely (bread, cheese, muesli, yogurt, fruit). The hosts were extremely kind. One was a nurse and was giving pilgrims advice on foot problems.

Helena goes above and beyond. Staying at her Albergue was truly a wonderful experience on the Camino. People like her are the reason why the long walk is worth it ♥

What an amazing little Albergue, Helena the owner literally greets pilgrims with an open heart. She is sweet, the place is clean, the shower is huge and it also has a private room. She will also cook home made meals for an additional fee.

It's worth stopping sooner or walking farther to spend a night here. You'll find true hospitality, kindness, and good conversation, with delicious vegetarian food and wine to match! The surroundings are beautiful and worth a ramble if you feel like doing a little walking without your pack.
I hear that on Thursdays they serve lunch as well.
Thank you Elena and Peter!

Spent a night here in May 2018 after a very long walk from Peurta la Reine. Host Helena and Peter were super helpful and kind. It's a very quirky place with loads of character. Dinner was a wonderful home cooked meal served family style with a full house of 16 people approx that evening. It's worth booking in a stop here on your walk. The energy is good. Thanks Peter and Helena, I appreciated my short time in your place.
