Aquis Querquennis

Stunning location, it was quiet when we visited so we saw fish jumping, birds of prey and swifts (?) speeding across the top of the water all that and half sunken Roman ruins on the lake surrounded by hills & trees. The campervan area was brilliant, flat, clean, spacious with bins and disposal facilities and picnic benches. Very much appreciate the efforts in providing this free facility in such a stunning location. Please take good care of it all if you come.

Beautiful ruins of a roman fort next to the lake beach. This is an incredibly suggestive place, it's great to go and enjoy a hike by the lake, stop for some sightseeing and learn about history. It's also completely free

Amazing to find such a well preserved and looked after Roman site with totally free access and with plenty of descriptive panels. Had never heard of this site before. Only found out when preparing our short stay in that area. Worth the visit. You can plan to get your swimming shorts and a towel to experience the warm springs of the Caldera Romana, a little further north on the same shore of the lake.

Beautiful historic Roman barracks. Well worth a trip. They have 3D video guides explaining the history and architecture. So much detail. And the road from the reservoir to Portugal and Ponte de Lima is breathtaking. You should see the amount of water that is missing from the reservoirs, quiet frightening to think if we don't see rain in the near future

Partially rebuild ruins, with good signage and even QR codes that lead to videos about the area and it’s origins. Great views onto the lake, especially as the sun is rising in the morning. Don’t miss the hot springs!

Amazing Roman ruins, partially flooded while we were there which added to the experience rather than detract from it.

The ruins are in between a beautiful oak tree forest and the lake made by a dam onriver Lima

Loved this ruins on the side of the lake! Aquis Querquennis, is a Roman camp, we are in Porto Quintela, located in the municipality of Bande, in Galicia. The camp was established on the site for the construction of the Vía Nova, a road that connected Bracara Augusta ( the actual city of Braga in portugal) and Asturica Augusta (Astorga, Castilla y Leon, Spain)

Según la época del año podrás observar el campamento de distintas maneras. Hoy está casi cubierto en su totalidad y la estampa es sencillamente espectacular.
Acceso sencillo desde el centro de interpretación en cuyos alrededores se puede aparcar y hay también hay un merendero.
Hay una zona de parking de autocaravanas.
