Stunning - absolutely Stunning. Silly us, didn't do any research - thank goodness we pulled up for coffee !! This incredible canal bridge was, up until 2003 the longest aqueduct in the world. Built around 1896, it's over 600 mtrs long. It looks like most folk Park in Briare Town where we found lovely lock cafes, and a classic car display (quite by chance). We actually parked the other end. No barrier, and no time restrictions. The Pont Canal opens into a marina where trips can be had, little canal side eating huts and public toilets. The aqueduct is spectacular, wrought iron decorative, old victorian lamps and huge sculptured lions at each end. I'd highly recommend a couple of hours here, and most definitely a walk end to end.

Best aqueduct I've ever seen - spectacular crossing the Loire.

Absolutely beautiful. One thing to see once in a lifetime. It's crazy to think that a canal is literally going above a river. This bridge might 130 years old but it's a great life of engineering that shows that when mankind wants to accomplish something, it can.

Beautiful canal bridge that crosses the Loire river. Lovely walk across good views, lots of parking and places to eat. Very pretty and worth visiting.

This is gorgeous. If you're coming from Briare, walk along the Loire canal to get here. The bistros at the Briare end are quite satisfactory.

When a canal goes over a river. Really worth a visit! Nice walk around the bridge where you can admire a great piece of architecture. Make sure you stop at the pâtisserie just by the pont canal and have a macaroon.

One of a kind piece of infrastructure. More than 600 meters of a metal acqueduct that takes a canal from one bank of the Loire river to another. First time I see such a thing. Unfortunately, we could not see any boat crossing the bridge but it was already great.

An extraordinary feat of engineering. We enjoyed riding our bikes across the viaduct using the Loire à Velo path but plenty of people were walking too.

Uncredible metallic construction completed in 1894. 130 years later it is in perfect state. From the bridge the view on the Loire is stunning.

The walk along the aqueduct is lovely, as is Briare...but the main reason you should visit is to sample the artisan chocolatier and ice cream at the beginning of the bridge....so good ...

Beautiful, especially if you see a boat crossing.
