Heidi and Nik kindly opened up a Gite for us in the middle of winter. It is the first dog friendly place I have ever come across that actually IS pet friendly, in that the Gites have a private fenced in front garden, making our pet secure and not having to lock her up inside or keeping her tied up the entire time. The Gite is really spacious and incredibly well equipped. Super cosy and comfortable, nothing lacking at all. It even has an extra downstairs toilet, so you don't have to go upstairs every time. The decor is comfortable and has a really homely feel without being either sterile or cluttered. Delightful in every way. I'm trying hard to find something that could be improved but in all honesty, I can't find anything. Heidi and Nik were perfect hosts, available if you needed help but respectful of their guests need for privacy. Highly recommend! Good WiFi!

A beautiful place! The gite was well equipped and comfortable, in a magical setting. The gardens are full of clouds of butterflies, and there is abundant wildlife all around. We enjoyed going for walks and swimming, and there is lots to see in the Limousin area. Heidi and Nik made us feel very welcome.

Had a very relaxing week here, it was so lovely! If it’s peace and quiet you’re after this is the place…hidden amongst chestnut trees and surrounded by endless rolling countryside and woodland. A nature haven - so many butterflies, moths, birds, dragonflies (and the odd donkey). Plenty to see and do nearby. And the warmest of hosts. Heidi and Nik, thanks so much, your place is very special indeed x

Great accommodation in a beautiful setting with incredibly generous hospitality. We stayed for a week with our 2 small boys and had a wonderful time - Nik and Heidi went out of their way to ensure everything was straightforward (not always the case with a young family) and our stay was memorable. Would highly recommend for either a family break or to those wanting to escape in nature.

Where to start?! The 20 acres that comprise the grounds of Le Moulin are, quite simply, a nature lovers paradise.

Birds, butterflies, moths, lizards, and insects all abound in a wonderful variety of habitats including species rich grassland, woodland and the aquatic environment created by the River Bandiat which runs through the site.

Nik and Heidi, who are both English, manage the site in a sustainable way with the objective of maximising the wildlife habitats, and Nik gave us a fabulous guided tour of the whole site which, with Nik’s detailed knowledge, was an incredibly insightful experience.

We stayed in one of the spotlessly clean gites, which was extremely well equipped, thus enabling us to self-cater some of the time, but we also enjoyed a pre-arranged meal with other guests, where we were treated to a selection of yummy vegetarian curries and sides, expertly cooked by Heidi. We also undertook the absolutely delightful 30 minute walk along grass footpaths and through cool, shady woodland to La Ferme du Lac restaurant/bar where we ate and drank (on several occasions) because the food was excellent, and the welcome was so warm and friendly.

Since we did not wish to hire a car for our stay, we availed ourselves of the service, offered by Nik and Heidi, to collect and/or drop-off from/to Limoges Airport (€50 per journey). They also very kindly lent us their own bikes so that we could explore a little further afield and buy provisions from the shop at the nearby village of Marval.

The site has a small, but idyllically located swimming pool, where it was possible to watch the abundant butterflies whilst keeping cool on hot summer days.

Everything about this enchanting site was, for us, made all the more enjoyable because of the obvious love and dedication that Heidi and Nik for everything that they are doing at Le Moulin and their desire to share its benefits with others. We enjoyed every single moment of our 13 day stay and certainly hope to return again.

A perfect spot for our family holiday!
Le Moulin de Pensol was an amazing place for a holiday with our family. Our young children (aged 4 and 2) were so excited to see the chickens, horses, donkeys and pig. Heidi and Nik were so kind, involving them with feeding and explaining about the animals. It’s a beautiful quiet location with loads of amazing trees to shelter under on the very hot days, and incredible array of butterflies. There is a gorgeous stream to paddle in and a circular walk in the forest. We had the Le Moulin 7 Gite which is super spacious, has excellent Wi-Fi, well equipped kitchen and a huge dining table. Three generous bedrooms and lovely modern bathrooms. To top it all off, we arranged to have had a home cooked meal by Heidi one night which was delicious. Can’t recommend enough. We will definitely be back.

Super rural location specifically managed to encourage butterflies and other wildlife. I took loads of photographs. The accommodation was comfortable and there was a choice of excellent restaurants nearby. Hosts Nick and Heidi could not have been more helpful and their pet donkeys, pigs etc added to the great character of the place.

We had a wonderful Valentines Dinner at the Moulin. A superb vegetarian four course meal prepared by Heidi. That, on top of the warm welcome, the beautiful setting, and the friendly atmosphere made for a great week-end away. Thank you Heidi and Nik, you should be proud of what you have achieved at Pensol.
To anyone reading this - book now for a stay here - you won’t regret it one little bit!

We stayed at le moulin for a Valentines weekend and Heidi and Nik were the perfect hosts. The property is very tastefully furnished and decorated and has a lovely relaxed, friendly ambiance. We loved seeing all the animals..horses, donkeys, dogs and of course Rosa the pig. We cycled around the area with advice from Nik on where to visit locally and found it very interesting. We would highly recommend a stay here .. everything just great including Heidi and Nik’s passion for thé place.
Ps Very much enjoyed the CD 💿

Just perfect, a little piece of paradise in the Limousin. We stayed one week with our 2 year old daughter, and absolutely loved it! The gite is charming, very clean, and has everything you need. It is surrounded by beautiful nature: a lovely garden with a small river running through it (and a pool to cool down during hot summer days), meadows full of flowers and butterflies, orchards where you can pick berries, and beautiful woods. All thanks to the owners Nik and Heidi, who do a treamendous job at managing the domain as if it was a nature reserve (with the help of their friendly donkeys and cute piglets). They are also great hosts: friendly, welcoming, very helpful. They care a great deal about their guests, their surroundings and the environment. Such a joy to hear them speak about their donkeys, the biodiversity on their land, etc. ... In short: highly recommended!

A fantastic location - so tranquil with beautiful walks through amazing sweet chestnut forests. Heidi and Nik were attentive hosts and brought meals over to us most evenings - always with a jug of wine! Their knowledge of the flora and fauna was extensive. The gite was simple but well equipped and just right for us. We look forward to returning.

Idyllic spot, charming gites, gorgeous grounds brimming with wildlife, and the most friendly and hospitable owners (and their pets!) you could ask for. Instant relaxation as soon as we arrived! Thanks Heidi and Nik for a wonderful stay.

Nestled in a wooded valley bisected by the Bandiat Brook, this is a tranquil base where you can explore the surrounding woodlands, heaths and scattered villages with markets of La France Profound, within the Perigord-Limousin Regional Park.

Chalus provided some history for those familiar with Richard, Couer de Lion (Richard I) and local large Intermarché.

Owners are welcoming, friendly and along with their various donkeys, mule, horses, chickens and wildlife, Le Moulin de Pensol provides a relaxing break in a soundscape dominated by bird song and the ever present bubbling Bandiat.

We thoroughly recommend staying at le Moulin de Pensol, Pensol, owned and run by Heidi and Nik ,who were very friendly and made as feel very welcome. The accommodation was very comfortable, the food delicious , the attractive walk through the woods by the stream and meeting all the animals made it a very pleasant and relaxing weekend break.
We would also recommend la Ferme du Lac, Marval, run by Jackie Webber where we had Sunday lunch. The lamb was delicious !
If anyone is looking to spend a weekend or longer in the Haute-Vienne region these places would be ideal.

We had a fabulous four day stay at Le Moulin. From the moment we were welcomed by Nick and Heidi till the day they were waving us out. The first night we had dinner at Le Moulin and Heidi served us a great three course. All biological, from their own grounds. In the mornings we enjoyed the breakfast.
We stayed in the Chambre (Papillon) because the Gites were already booked, but we could manage perfectly with the three of us. Our 7 year old daughter had the time of her life riding one of the donkeys, and walking the little pigs to the river together with Nick and Heidi, and of course she loved the pool.
We also enjoyed the area, with its nice little lakes for swimming and sunbathing. A couple of good restaurants within a 10 till 15 minutes drive from Le Moulin. I went out for a run every morning and there is a perfect 7K circuit, just ask Nick. What more can we say? Well one more thing: We wil definitely come back!

We absolutely loved our stay at Heidi and Nick’s Gîte in Pensol. The property is inside a protected natural park, and the whole grounds are truly beautiful. Wake up and have a coffee on the porch with the freshest air, and watch the natural habitat start its day. Finish the day with a local wine and cheese in the shade on any of the many great spots around the property. While Pensol is pretty remote, we didn’t have any difficulty finding great local shops and restaurants ~10-15 mins away in the car in any direction. We day-tripped to Sarlat for a great lunch (highly recommended), saw tons of chateaus, but really more than anything enjoyed the nature and landscapes in the Perigord-Limousin region where the BNB is located. There are some friendly donkeys on site, a pool, ping-pong, and the gite is set up with everything you need for a relaxing stay on Heidi and Nick’s bed and breakfast. If you’re looking for a true “BNB” experience with friendly hosts in a beautiful setting, the Moulin in Pensol is the perfect place! Thanks Heidi and Nick! We loved our stay. Au revo

What a wonderful place to stay and excellent way to celebrate my birthday with friends. The pizza “fait maison” was the best I’ve ever tasted! The complex is set in a delightful steep-sided valley with acres of its own woodland and a small river running through the garden. Walking from the gîte to the main house it felt like we were in a film set. Not only is it picturesque, but the friendly attentive service and tranquility of the surrounding countryside make it an ideal stopover to recharge your batteries. If you like donkeys it’s a bonus!
