Best Sunday roast I ever had! (Pork belly - perfectly smokey). My friends also had the beef and the veggie (nut roast) and pretty much everyone agreed it was the best Sunday roast ever. Shout out to Ollie who patiently walked us through the menu 😅 thank you!

Perfect bucolic retreat for a couple of nights. The rooms are very in keeping with the original style and a little rough around the edges.

PROS:
Absolutely beautiful bathroom, we stayed in the “fletching” room. Stunning four poster bed. The food is exceptional, as are the staff. The village is super remote and nothing apart from the pub and church is around you, which suited us perfectly. It’s really close to lots of short drive outings.

CONS:
Radio didn’t work/ carpet was a little past its best/ and you can hear absolutely EVERYTHING from the pub downstairs- however this didn’t bother us at all, as the noise stops at 11pm- but does start up again at 8:30 for breakfast, so no lie in. The welcome tray is a little bare… could do with some added extras.

Great pub with rooms; free parking, high end evening food and live music. Breakfast was very relaxed and good service throughout. The rooms are cosy and have a definite country edge, nice bath and robes. Only consideration was the vegetarian/vegan options on the menu as these were limited for dinner.

Very relaxed and comfortable stay with our friends and flat coat retriever after visiting Sheffield Park.
Rooms were comfortable, service was good, friendly and helpful with very good food both for dinner and breakfast.
Garden had great views but unfortunately the weather wasn’t good enough to use but it was the beginning of November.

Annemarie the land-lady was super friendly and so were all the staff. Food is excellent. We went on our first date and just went back for our honeymoon! Idilic spot and oozing with character. So close to Sheffield park and bluebell railway and gorgeous country roads in the autumn :)

We had a great one night stay at your lovely old Inn along with our dog. We were away for a family reunion and the room didn't disapoint. We had a lovely big bed which was great for my husband who is 6ft 7ins. It was very comfortable and the room well designed. The gardens and views were spectacular made even more so because of the great weather! The service was very good in the restaurant and outside areas and the staff were very helpful and polite...A very enjoyable stay.

One night stay after a wedding locally. Lovely room, comfortable bed, good breakfast, but what sets this place apart is the staff. Every single person we spoke to was an absolute delight. We'll be coming back to try the restaurant soon.

Lovely pub. Huge character and always friendly staff. The garden has the most wonderful views in the summer- it is rightly called The Serengeti of Sussex!

Just had the most amazing experience, eating sumptuous food by the fire and then listening to live piano music played by young Joe and his colleagues. Will be back!

Booked 12 rooms for an event and had such a great time. Food was amazing. Staff very considerate and friendly. Garden is stunning with BBQ and bar at the end. Great service all round.
Carpets looking tired but no doubt due to new takeover by Youngs & Co, so no recent reinvestment.

The Griffin Inn (East Sussex) is an absolute delight and the epitome of English charm!

The location itself is picturesque, nestled in the serene countryside of East Sussex, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. It's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The staff at The Griffin Inn are simply outstanding. They were always attentive and eager to ensure a memorable experience.

The food here is exceptional. The chefs create culinary masterpieces using the finest, locally sourced ingredients. Each dish is a burst of flavors and beautifully presented, leaving my taste buds wanting more.

In conclusion, The Griffin Inn is a true gem that offers an unforgettable experience. Whether you're looking for a delicious meal, a cozy place to stay, or a refreshing beverage, this place has it all.

We stayed at the hotel whilst in Sussex for a wedding and it was superb. Our room was cosy and comfortable with a four poster and generous size bathroom. It was ideal for travelling with the elderly dog as the room opens straight onto the garden so no stairs. Best of all was the amazing food. Breakfast was the tastiest we have had anywhere, absolutely wonderful. And apart from the day of the wedding we ate in the hotel- easiest with the dog- and the menu was amazing. They even have a good range of non alcoholic spirits and cocktails which makes a change as most hotels don't bother to accommodate non drinkers or light drinkers. The surroundings are very quiet and the Bluebell railway is just a mile away. We only stayed 3 nights but I felt revived after our stay and really recommend this place for any tyre of stopover.

Lovely room with extremely comfortable bed (and extra bed for our five-year-old), plus the usual excellent dinner and wine. Service was attentive and friendly, taking our raucous party and the even larger and louder one next to us in their stride. The bars, complete with fires and whisky selection, are as enticing as ever.

Hadn't booked, just turned up at 8pm on Saturday eve, the place was packed. Crossed our fingers and politely asked for a table for two. Thirty seconds later a space was found for us. What fantastic staff, what an incredible garden and with a view to die for. The food was so good, the service was perfect. So rare to find this these
days. We had a fabulous evening, all the staff made it so special. Thank you for doing everything so perfectly. Liz & Nick.

The service is exceptional, the food is 'top restaurant' calibre in quality, flavours and presentation.
If you are drinking wine with your meal, the list reflects the food - a very good chef will not provide sub standard wine!
This is not an inexpensive experience - but you do get what you pay for.
A favourite and well worth the 45 minute drive ( yes that is how good it is).

Beautiful meal and service was great. Great atmosphere and setting, dog friendly too which made it even better. It is more in the special treat range of prices but the food was amazing so absolutely didn't mind spending it .
