From the moment I stepped into Lark Restaurant in the charming town of Bury St Edmunds, I knew I was in for a treat. This culinary gem has managed to create an atmosphere that is both inviting and sophisticated, striking a perfect balance that appeals to a wide range of diners.

Each dish we tried was a testament to the chef's expertise and attention to detail. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and absolutely delightful. It's clear that the kitchen uses only the freshest ingredients, and their skill in bringing out the best in these ingredients is commendable. Whether it was the appetizer, the main course, or the dessert, each dish was a delightful journey for the taste buds.

A special mention must be made of the hosts, who were nothing short of brilliant. Their warm welcome set the tone for the evening, and their knowledge about the menu and recommendations were spot on. The host's attentiveness and genuine care for the guests' experience made our visit even more enjoyable. It's rare to find such a combination of professionalism and personal touch.

The Lark is not just about great food; it's about the entire dining experience. The ambiance is cozy and elegant, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is exceptional. It's a place where memories are made, be it a special occasion or a casual evening out.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Lark Restaurant to anyone looking for an exquisite dining experience in Bury St Edmunds. It's a place where culinary skill and quality service come together to create an unforgettable experience. Don't miss out on this hidden treasure!

Thank you Sophia, Yann and chef James.

This restaurant is exceptional! The food is on par with the best London restaurants which charge twice as much. The sauces are just lip smackingly good, the Madeira sauce with the chicken and the saffron sauce with the sole are unreal, we scraped the plates clean (get the hash browns to dip). I can’t compliment the food enough, we were wowed! Also a personal note- my father has cancer and has barely eaten much over the last few months and he ate as much as us and was blown away. So thank you, whenever I’m back in Suffolk I will be back (that’s if I can get a table)!

We had a fantastic dining experience here. It was great to be able to custom select our own tasting menu to share given the nature of the small plates. The majority of the dishes were well presented and tasted amazing. Particular highlights: the mushroom and truffle arancini, the oxtail and bone marrow pie (special), and the sopressini cacio e pepe. The tempura monfish was rather bland compared to the mix of flavours of the other dishes. The tiramisu special was a delight. Good wine options to suit all manner of tastes and budget. Service was impeccable, and we felt well looked after (thank you, Yann and team!). We'll definitely be back to try more of the dishes.

Small plates of sublime food and great service from this jewel of a restaurant!

I visited here one Friday evening with my wife. We decided to go off-the-cuff and bagged the last table for two at the 6pm sitting; the only caveat was that we had to be done by 8pm. This proved to be perfectly adequate time and we had a great evening.

We were both driving, so opted for water and a single standard glass of wine each - a vinho Verde and an orange wine; these were very good, especially the latter.
Our special dietary requirement of being a bit greedy were well catered for; the plates may be small but we ordered plenty!

Paremesan fougasse was light, crisp and covered in a generous blizzard of cheese.
Rabbit and black pudding bon bons were satisfyingly meaty, with a pleasing kick of mustard.
Salsify was deliciously yielding and came with a crunchy-crumb coating & another great dusting of paremesan.
Venison tartare was very tasty, served atop a crisp and buttery hash brown.
Spiced tempura monkfish had a light, crisp batter, was deftly spiced and lifted brilliantly with a squeeze of lime and a confit onion accompaniment.
Chicken thigh had a soft interior with crispy skin, served on a bed of buttery mushrooms which sat in a pool of delicious creamy and truffly chicken jus.
Hogget was presented in a crisp coating, delicately seasoned with cumin and served with a couple of excellent celeriac sides and a rich lamby jus.
Our final main (possibly the best dish) was of perfectly pan cooked duck, with a great duck reduction, Jerusalem artichoke transformed 3 ways, into the creamiest and smoothest purée, crisps and whole roasted - which was crisp, yet yielding. Scattered hazelnuts were a welcome counterpoint of flavour and texture.
We finished things with a tiramisu (creamy, boozy deliciousness) and a cannele that was as good as any I've had in Bordeaux.

This all came to £158.06 (including service) which was a bargain for such a consistent performance, including some memorable highs and not a single bum-note.

We will definitely be back 👍🏻

An experience not to be missed. We went for the ‘Lark’s kitchen selection taster and chose to have the dishes as a surprise. Every single dish was delicious with different textures and flavours that lingered on the palate but complemented each other.
It was a lovely, leisurely lunch with time to savour each course.
Fab service, with attentive staff who really knew the menu and what wine and coffee complemented the food. It would be difficult to name a favourite dish but the pasta dish Sopressini with truffle really stood out. I’ve never tasted better.
First time trying oysters and the watermelon garnish gave a perfect mix of sweet and salty.
This is a place worth making the effort to visit. A sublime meal. We will be back

Fantastic ! The food was incredible! Very good service and lovely atmosphere. We came here for my birthday and it won’t be the last time. I say this has to be the top restaurant in Bury st Edmund’s for fine dining.

This restaurant is a must visit, have been especially delighted by the high bench seats. All courses were very good presented with plenty of diversity!

We loved it! Such a perfect little spot. Intimate dining room with a great atmosphere, casual but still felt like a special treat. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. And just superb food. Every dish was spot on, seasonal, inventive and most of all delicious. Varied and reasonably priced wine list. We will be back!

Many good things to say about this place. From the wine recommendations through the service to the food of course. We had the tasting menu for £65 and were completely stuffed. It would have been lovely to have the cheese platter but none of us had space. The menu seems to change.

Absolutely divine. Every dish we had from here was exceptional! The staff were also really helpful and the ambience was very sweet. Would thoroughly recommend the cacio e pepe, rabbit & black pudding fritters and the hash browns! It’s not cheap but it’s absolutely worth it. Will definitely be recommending to all and returning!

A pure delight. My husband and I adored every dish and felt how could they possibly top the previous dish and they did! Staff were very attentive and charming. My personal favourite was the trifle as I had a "Ratatouille" moment where it took me back to my childhood eating my Nanny's trifle - never thought I'd have anything as good as her's again as she's no longer with us. Simply perfect. We will definitely be back.

Have been wanting to try this new restaurant and we were not disappointed. Only 6 tables but you must make sure you come. The meal was outstanding. Little plates of heaven with amazing flavours in every one. Great to see sustainable ingredients like venison and munt jack on the menu. Always judge an establishment by its house wine and this is a good one. The staff were welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable. We ate far too much so will have to return to try all the puddings another time and we will definitely be back. This is a little gem which should be cherished in a town like Bury.

Last Thursday we had a fantastic meal at Lark. The ‘tapas’ idea is superb, all the delicious things on the menu, ready to taste. The pork belly and octopus in the pic) was excellent (all the dishes were), but to have my two favourite ingredients on the same plate was delightful. Service was excellent too. Just sorry that we didn’t complete the menu (although we tried). Even tried sweet breads for the first time - a revelation! Five stars all the way.

Great for a treat. Superb food, friendly and efficient service. 2 of us shared 8 plates over the starter and main menu, as recommended. I was particularly impressed as I am gluten free and my menu was marked up ready and I could have 85% of the dishes.

Oh dear all, while reading the reviews I came across negative ones. Not sure everyone gets the concept of this amazing restaurant. The plates arrive when ready, which I personally like because it's like opening birthday presents. We ordered four starters and four main dishes. Now I'm a bit fussy about what I eat, but WOW!
This was superb food. Made with care and love. Beautifully presented. My partner picked some amazing dishes that we shared. Went for a reasonably priced wine that complemented the meal well.
Congratulations team Lark...the kitchen and service was excellent. The price is not cheap but you get what you pay for. As this was a Xmas present to my girlfriend, it was a treat that I did not mind paying. Again.... well done Lark on your service and food.

Wonderful! Whoever put the menu together is a genius, the mezze type format gives diners the opportunity to try 4 or 5 plates each. Probably the best meal we have ever had.

Knocked my socks off - great concept - lots of sharing plates - lots of things to try. The food was sublime and I can't understand why anyone would say they could come away hungry- yes the portions are small but it's supposed to be that way and you're supposed to have several plates for each course. The oxtail pie was stunning, as was the smoked roe and the hogget. Really high quality food - there's obviously a serious chef in the kitchen. If you're a genuine foodie, you will love this place. Worth a visit.

A perfect meal in an intimate setting, and though not a cheap restaurant, you won't get better value for your money anywhere. Extraordinary food (highlights were the venison tartare on a hash brown, and the white chocolate and passion fruit trifle), with warm, friendly service. I'll be back whenever I can get a table

Where to start!

The food was amazing, every bite was such a great experience of flavours and textures.

The service was brilliant, great recommendations and knowledge of the wine and food.

A really cool feature is it's a very small cosy restaurant but I was worried people would be coming and going, opening the front door, and lots of walking around. But actually I think they do only two seatings, one at 18:00 and one at 20:00. So you don't have people constantly coming in.

The only thing I would change; they open at 18:00 on the dot, so if you arrive at 17:50 they won't be open, you'll have to walk around or wait outside.
