Had our wedding reception here in May and because it was a small wedding most of our guests stayed in the hotel, which was perfect. The rooms and restaurant are stylish & immaculate having recently been refurbished. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food lovely and Fran & Adam, plus their staff, go out of their way to accommodate any requests. We were especially pleased that they allowed us a separate area in the pub for our reception despite it being a busy Saturday. This made the occasion even more special and we certainly be back to stay again soon.

I’m not one to usually write reviews… however! Best food and place to stay— our only regret is that we could not stay here longer. Very much looking forward to coming back.

Neither me nor my partner were expecting such gorgeous rooms: refurbished and beautiful down to the smallest details. Truly beautiful and such a comfortable stay! The staff and owners were incredibly nice and helpful, going above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Also… the food is 10/10. I would recommend anyone — locals and tourists alike, to stay here. Our only regret is we have to head back to NYC and cannot stay longer but I would have loved to stay here for a week or so more.
Thank you so much Dog and Partridge for making our stay so special

We had group meal on the 10th May and it was amazing . Everyone was happy with their food. Menu has changed since I last was at D&P and gone for duck hash. I wasn't disappointed. Well presented , nicely cooked and duck itself was tender and tasty. Definitely going to come back soon.

Excellent hotel/ Inn . Perfect location for visiting The Theatre Royal and the various tourist sites in the town. Staff very helpful and attentive. The rooms have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Food and drink selection extensive.
Car parking could be a little restricted, but I'm sure any issues can be quickly resolved by the helpful staff.

We booked dinner on Sunday for 10 People, I emailed in to book as website only allows up to 9 people. Only issue I had was response to email, but this so could have been my end? From organising to final drinks and desert, The Dog and Partridge atmosphere, staff, food was absolutely phenomenal! We all were in agreement that we felt we was in a silver service venue. The Politeness of all staff and quality to detail was simply awesome. I just hope that we left a substantial tip? But that part was taken out of my control.

I would recommend the push for further coffees or drinks at end. This may give more revenue? Perhaps? But overall we definitely will be going back.

Great gastro pub a short walk from Bury St Edmunds Abbey.
It's more of a local pub, so it's not so busy as the pubs in the main shopping area.
Good choice of meals, we had the steak and ale pie. Excellentc pastry and the pie is well filled
Good choice of beer as you would expect.
Service was also very good from the friendly staff.

We reserved a large area of the pub for a big family event, and the staff were brilliant in helping us arrange and book it and the whole experience was very very positive. It's a lovely pub, great outdoors area and in an excellent town centre location.

Lovely food in an authentic setting, with great beers on keg and cask. Stayed in the adjoining room, which were comfortable and modern.

Stayed here previously and the room were good. This stay the rooms had been refurbed a few weeks before and they were amazing. Very plush, stylish and modern bathroom facilities with an incredible double shower. The bed was super comfortable, all the amenities you could ask for including a pod coffee machine and a gigantic TV. Would happily recommend this as a place to stay to anyone.

Had an amazing meal. Recommend the crab burger. Lovely staff. I understand that Greene King directors eat there!

Great food, the steak and kidney pie was a real pie. The real ale was good too. The room was recently refurbished and was very good. This room was the only one with a bath in the bedroom as well as a shower. Facilities were great, I even managed to park my car in the car park at the rear.

I've been here a few times, but just for beer. Its always busy, and the staff always look run off their feet; however, they still manage to provide great service. Tonight I had the steak and ale pie. Probably the best meal I have had in a long time. I've never tasted Hispi cabbage, but now I know how amazing it is. The whole meal was a delight and the staff was very friendly and professional. 11 out of 10. Well done 👏

Sometimes I don't want fancy pants dining. I just want good English pub grub and that's exactly what you get here.

I'm not a pub goer so had to ask friends for a recommendation and they immediately suggested the Dog and Partridge. I'm very glad that they did.

Everything about the place was lovely - staff, food and service.

I will say that on our visit they didn't have any non-alcoholic beers and no Guinness 0.0% which was disappointing. I really fancied an ale to go with my pie so, hopefully, they can get a decent stock of non-alcoholic beers in the future. I can't be the only non-drinker in Bury St Edmunds....

EDIT: Great to hear about the Guinness 0.0% being available now. I'll definitely be back!

The Dog and Partridge is a friendly busy pub offering a wide range of drinks and a varied food menu. The food was really good and very reasonably priced. There is also a large paved outside area to eat and drink. The pub also has hotel rooms which were refurbished in November 2023. The rooms were clean, comfortable and look good. The pub also offers a good breakfast menu for residents. It is located in the town centre and offers parking. The staff team are attentive and provide a
great service.
