Cambridge’s go-to hardware store for generations and for good reason. Just had unrivalled customer service yet again, fixing an urgent problem that we faced.
Thank you to the team

This is a wonderful shop for everything engineering. You can still just buy a nut and a bolt, a hacksaw blade , piece of steel , aluminium or brass. It's my favourite shop in Cambridge

Brilliant shop ands service! I took my bike to them as the kick stand broke and could not be removed by the cycle shop. Scott very kindly had a go at it with angle grinder, hammer and chisel and managed to remove the remnants of the old stand so I could get a new one installed - all for a very reasonable price. Super friendly guys who couldn't do enough to help. Thanks!

The guys there are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Great independent hardware and tool store that's situated nicely on East Road with adequate parking at the rear. They also sell fireworks. The prices are reasonable and you'll find what you need in there. The staff are wonderful and lovely. Would recommend coming here & supporting a local business instead of going to a chain store.

Lots of good ironmongery tools to choose from for your DIY and professional jobs alike . I was greeted and acknowledged when I got in the shop. I bought bike lights and the brace clips were missing in the box. Went there the next day and it was replaced Immediately. Like the lights. Very good customer service and a helpful pleasant bunch.

Thank you for the most fantastic service! A few weeks a go I took into the shop an old cast iron pepper grinder to get some replacement screws. The screws which had been lost from the mechanism underneath were obsolete and unavailable and the really helpful chap re threaded the holes. It is now in perfect working order again. I am so grateful the grinder was a wedding present many years ago and to have it working again is so appreciated. I could not have asked for better service or a more patient chap. Thank you. 5* is not enough!!

This is a great place to get everyday tools for trades and general public. I was shopping for a new pair of steps to replace a worn out pair, I managed to get a like for like pair with no fuss or problems. This shop has been here all my life and gives customers old a new the service which is hard to find these days.

I love this place. You can buy one screw of a certain size here, if that's all you need. I don't think I've ever been disappointed, trying to find some unusual item at Mackays. This time I was after some thin metal rods I could bend into hoops, to create wire cloches for my allotment. Found! And at a very reasonable price. Didn't stop the vermin attacking my broad beans, but that won't stop me using Mackays!

Great shop. Helpful staff able to take vague description and make technical sense of it. Have done a good rearrangement for distanced service. Also can do quality bespoke metal fabrication.

I needed a replacement mattock handle. You could buy them for a few quid online, and all the reviews said they'd last maybe as long as a year or two, but the handle I was replacing was on my partner's grandfather's mattock that had lasted 70 years. So I looked for a good quality one, hard wood, etc. For decent kit, Mackays were cheaper than anyone else online, and they're a family run outfit.
If you don't mind replacing your tools every year or so, or having to push twice as hard to get them to bite, don't bother with this place.
If you know what a false economy is, this is your hardware store ;)
Thanks guys!

I took my broken pushchair in just before Christmas and they managed to find the time to fix it for me despite being really busy. Great quick service and really reasonable price. Very happy

A proper man shop full of tools, equipment and has a metal store. The place to go when your wife is in shopping mode and just across the road from the Grafton centre. Lots of changes made since last visit which was disorienting but still a good man shop

This shop is outstanding and an example to all retailers around the country. Lots of staff, all of them helpful but not pushy. A great place to go just for bits and bobs, washers, nuts and all manner of useful items for the home. They're great for advice on all sorts of home fixing problems and can usually offer help to get things fixed. Great for tools also, not as cheap as what you might get on the internet, but not expensive and you know that you're going to get proper quality equipment. From experience, it's much better to buy the right tools once, then to waste time and money buying dubious rubbish off the the internet.
Great shop, well worth a visit!

A brilliant ship. Great value and extreamly
helpful staff who actually know what they are taking about. They do whatever it takes to help you with your needs - finding the best solutions for your projects or requirements (not trying to sell you stuff for the sake of making sales)

I first came here solo as a 6 year old wanting a nut for a keeper and habe Benn coming back another 52 years. Always top quality service from staff that really know there stuff. It will be a very sad day if ever it closes or changes hands. The best of the best.

Very knowledgable staff who go out of their way to help, even if you are spending a few pence on a fixing or few a hundred on a power tool. Prices for the quality are better than chain stores. New layout helps as well.
