Incredible! This post office is open on Sundays! There is no cash machine in Orford but they will let you withdraw money for free. Very kind and good service.

Best small shop ever -- well stocked, friendly, convenient. Good selection of local goods as well as more generic staples.

As a shop, it's good, with an excellent cheese counter, but it's meant to be a post office too, and as a post office I prefer to avoid it. I would rather drive to Rendlesham or Saxmunham which is a shame. In Sudbourne, each day the rules over where you queue for the post office change depending on who is on the counter. It's either 'queue from the other end' i.e. join the shop queue, or you join the shop queue and get to the front of the line to be told to 'wait at the post office counter, you're in the wrong queue'. Either way, your time is wasted and there's no hint of apology for not guessing right, just a weary sigh that you got it wrong, what a nuisance. Where you're expected to queue changes depending who is on the counter, or maybe the day of the week, or the weather, and none of the staff acknowledge that we're all guessing today's whim. And woe betide you if happen to have an Amazon parcel to return, it's honestly better if you avoid the post office option altogether in that case or go for the collect at home option. I was behind a pensioner wanting to withdraw money last week; there is no ATM in the village so it's the only option. The woman asked how much she could withdraw to be answered with a sharp, 'You should know your own bank card limit". I'm guessing there would have been a more cheery greeting if she'd been buying a kilo of Baron Bigod. It feels like the post office is just a nuisance to the people who work there which is sad. The staff at Rendlesham are as focused on the post office as they are on the shop and manage their dual counters well without making people feel stupid. Or, here's an idea, on those days when you don't want people to wait at the post office counter, have a cardboard sign you prop up to say that.
