Cozy, warm and friendly pub. Located just off the Main Street it has plenty of tables available indoor and a large patio outdoor. Food is traditional English food. We opted for the classic jacked potato with tuna. Huge, piping hot and delicious. Service is quick. Lovely atmosphere. I’d definitely come back.

Lovely old pub centrally located down a back street in Bowness. Decent beer garden at the front, and two good sized rooms inside - but it does get busy! Food service was swift, once you managed to get served at the bar, even though we were told there would be a wait.
The food itself was brilliant with extremely generous portions. I nearly cried because I couldn't finish mine! For dog owners, they do not allow dogs inside but you can order food for the beer garden. There is also a decent selection of real ales. We've been coming for years, and it's hasn't once let us down on food, drinks, or atmosphere.

What a lovely old pub. Inside is fun.. the service was great, great choice of beers.. We had The Ploughman's Lunch between 2 of us, it was superb.. We also saw other people's food orders, and they were also big plates of food. We loved it.. Also, no dogs indoors...!!!.. hooray,, not all the world has gone mad..
Keep doing what your doing,, it's great..

Lovely historic Inn. We went twice just for drinks I recommend their dark ale. Large outdoor seating area but inside is amazing you see plenty pubs trying to look old but this is the real thing. Staff were helpful and very attentive.

My kind of no frills pub. Decorated with taxidermy, mugs, teapots and all sorts. You’ll never be bored with all these conversation pieces. Staff are friendly. A must try!

Best place to get a pub dinner in Bowness by a margin. It’s a couple streets back from the touristy craziness and therefore tends to avoid the majority of the overcrowding.
Menu is decent, I recommend the ploughmans or the lamb Henry. Meals tend to be under twenty quid which is a bonus in this day and age . Staff are friendly and the food is quickly served and high quality. Definitely worth a look if you want to take a break.

Out of the way from the hussel and bussel of bowness , how a pub should be. The ploughman's lunch is out of this world and enough for 2 at least. Never had a better one. Lovely cheeses pickles potato salad celery pork pie ham crisps celery. And much more, has to be seen to be believed. Staff friendly and happy.

Really good pub for a beer and nice food. Its in the back streets, so it is quieter than the main drag.. Which, as anyone who has visited the town will attest, is very welcome!

I love proper old style pubs. This place is fabulous. Visited a couple of times.
Very helpful friendly staff.
Robinsons beers are not my favourite, but they are well kept.
We didn't eat on our visits.

Absolutely loved going to this hole in the wall, for an authentic old world charm. The pub’s interiors tell the story and the originality of the food makes the experience a memorable one.

Lovely pub, the staff were so lovely and accomodating. The food portions were generous and tasted great. The pub itself is well preserved and clean. We were a really big group and the food came out so quickly. Everyone had a great time

As the oldest pub in Bowness, and a real hidden gem, the New Hall Inn (as it was originally named) soon became known as The Hole in t’ Wall (Hole in the Wall) thanks to the gap in the brickwork that was knocked through so that the blacksmith could be served a beer while hard at work.

Built in 1612, nothing much has changed, apart from electricity and central heating, and that’s what makes it!
Dripping with heritage and a great tale to tell – from Thomas Longmire (the champion wrestler) to Charles Dickens – the pub has a charm and character you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The Hole provides a wide range of cask ales, good pub grub served all day and an atmosphere that’s second to none. There is a patio/beer garden area with heating and a function room for larger parties. Situated in the heart of Bowness, the pub is within easy reach of the stunning hills and lake. A must visit on your stay around Windermere.

I love this place. You do the most amazing pie. Just wish it was a short crust bottom and top, win win. Trust me i like pie. The filling was superb, and the touch of peas in the pod, FANTASTIC, LOVED THE FRIED SQUID.

Our second visit whilst in Bowness and we managed to sneak a table for food between busy periods! An open fire, good atmosphere, cosy and warm, and now we know delicious food! Worth a visit, even if it's just for a quick warm by the fire. Was so thrilled, forgot to take a 'before' photo but here's what's left of our (huge portioned) dinner. Recommend!

a quintessentially English cosy old pub, charming and perfect with original features and completely unspoilt for its age. The staff are warm, friendly and the food is always consistently delicious and freshly cooked. The staff are genuinely nice and welcoming. Its a perfect friendly place for us. We are never disappointed.

Walk the side streets to find the best bars, this one was special, real oldie type pub with loads of character from 1612
Good service from the bar and reasonable priced beer.
Toilets very clean. Xx

Have very fond memories of this pub. . First visited in October 1974 and had my first pint(s) of Hartleys'. (Then played football.) Pure Amber nectar. The Ulverston brewery was long ago bought out and closed by Robinsons of Stockport. This pub serves great food as well. About £12 - 13 for a main. Lovely fire. Great atmosphere. Beer patio to front. Often packed. Choice of two Robbie's beers. Unicorn and Dizzy Blond. Lovely oint of Unicorn enjoyed by Paulicarus.

Fantastic food, good cider on tap. We had the lasagna and fish pie, both were amazing. We also had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was an enormous portion and delicious - great value for money. A great way to end a long day of walking around the lakes. Will probably be back tomorrow!
