Huge stunningly beautiful Church in the centre of Cartmel village. Well worth having a walk around the grounds - we found some gravestones dating back to the 1700’s.

An ancient and enchanting place, dating back not far off a thousand years in parts. We happened to visit when the choir were practising on a Sunday afternoon which added even more to the atmosphere.
It's very peaceful and there is a small shop which helps support the upkeep of the church.

Wow! What a lovely place. I was 100% impressed with the Priory. I think we struck lucky with a beautiful day and there was also a Medieval Fair taking place at the Priory and in the village that day.

A wonderful example of a great Abby astonishingly in great condition and survivor of the reformation. You can find good examples of misericords.

Truly beautiful priory, retaining some features of early mediæval churches lost in most during the Reformation. I hope to come here for a proper service someday.

Amazing priory rich in history. If you’re visiting this part of the Lakes on a rainy day then Cartmel is a great place to come. We went to the Yew Tree Barn and then to Cartmel. The priory was open even in COVID days which was a wonderful sanctuary. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Amazing medieval graffiti on the pews, loads of ancient grave stones, architecture and stain glass.

It is one of our favourite places to worship. We love the atmosphere and are drawn to call in whenever we are going near the area. It is one of the oldest churches in the North of England.
There are stained glass windows, sculptures and decorative choir stalls. A beautiful religious experience.

Worth a visit. The choir stalls are superb and this thoroughly interesting old church is well served by a good quality gift shop selling books and trinkets. The unusual building makes this church important nationally. I recommend it. Nearby, the village offers food, drink and lavatories.
