My daughter and I came in for breakfast before our 3 hour drive home. Really friendly staff - welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We both had full english- daughter doesn't like egg or mushrooms - no trouble though , she had extra bacon and hash brown. The chef even gave me a ln extra fried black pudding! All delicious, clean plates and full tummies all round!

The place was absolutely dead when we went but that's how I like it. The staff were super friendly and the service was super fast. Only had a cuppa tea, but it was nice enough.

Made mine a mocha and wasn't disappointed. Very attentive staff and service with quality cakes and meals made from scratch in house. Also freshly roasted coffee delivered weekly.

I'm not saying this is the best full English in the UK but for my part I can't imagine how it could possibly be improved on. First off, as any fool knows, the most important thing about a breakfast is the quality of the components and this was absolutely superlative in every part. The bacon was perfect: tender, and tasted only of bacon rather than heaven knows what. Superb sausage with no unpleasant textural surprises in it. Fresh egg, perfectly cooked. I was a little unsure about those vine tomatoes at first, but the chef had seasoned them with a decent sprinkle of rock salt and that transformed them. Even the fried bread - such a difficult thing to get right - was ideal: crisp and tasty suggesting that fresh oil had been used. The café itself was clean, pleasant and quiet without being weird. All in all, this was a full English for the ages and a sublime experience which I savoured over coffee.

There's no better way to start your visit to Hay than by calling in this lovely cafe. The staff are really friendly and there's a great range of deliciously tempting food on offer. We had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup for our breakfast - scrumptious!

I visited with my elderly aunt as she grew up in Hay and used to play within the ruins of the castle. The cafe was busy but they managed to fit us in for tea and cake. The staff are lovely, the food nice, and the surroundings amazing. They have done a really good job. Highly recommended.

On a freezing Sunday in December it was a genuine pleasure to find a warm welcome and roaring fire at Hay Castle's Cafe. We ordered a pot of tea while we scanned the menu and a large teapot quickly appeared which was greatly appreciated as our extremities started to thaw. In a change from the traditional roast beef offering on the menu, I opted for the beetroot cured Salmon with Sardinian crispbread, slaw, pomegranate and pickled red onion. As it was rather a chilly day I added a side order of roasted vegetables. The combination was perfect! Delicious food, well presented and at a very reasonable price too.
The staff were nothing but helpful, friendly and efficient, the setting light, clean and cosy.
Advice - pre book to reserve your table as it's quite busy. 😊

Visited today with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We both thoroughly enjoyed the hake and roast potatoes with pesto sauce. The staff were friendly and made our visit so relaxing. Congratulations to the chef. We will definitely visit again as Market day in Hay on Wye is a great joy

I arrived here just as the kitchen was closing but the young lady chef rustled me up an amazing Parsnip soup and hot bread rolls which was just what I needed on this chilly grey day.
I also ate here a few days ago and had a truly delicious Beetroot quiche with salad and coleslaw and they make a great flat white.

Expensive but well worth it. One of the best vegetarian breakfasts I've ever had. Staff were knowledgable about allergies and accommodating to my friend, offering to create something off menu that she could eat. A lovely treat!

Fantastic place, great food and drinks staff are just amazing. It's got a very nice atmosphere and welcoming feel. It's spotlessly clean there. Love going here for take outs, and breakfast with my little boy..

Stopped here for a pitstop during a long ride. The lady who served me was wonderful and I had a cracking bit of Welsh rarebit with a coffee. Just what I needed to get me over Gospel Pass. Highly recommended!

Lovely cafe, friendly and helpful staff. They do a gorgeous gluten free cuppachino cake. The other food options look great too, but I can't comment on how they taste x

A very good full English breakfast. My girlfriend had Pancakes with crispy bacon, which she acclaimed as delicious.
A new regular haunt I suspect.
