Lovely warm cosy pub. Good selection of beers. The owner / manager made us (and our dogs) feel very welcome. Good atmosphere and vibe - really pretty Christmas decorations. The free mince pies were great! Thank you.

Not sure if it is a hotel as in a place to sleep but it is a really friendly pub and restaurant. It was a 5 minute drive from from our holiday cottage and it was well worth it. My husband and my parents all had fish and chips while I had jacket potato with chilli and cheese. All very good food.
The pool table and darts were free to play. The proprietor was very friendly. There was a shooting party at the pub and despite there being around 15 to 20 of them they did not disturb the peaceful environment.
If I had been aware that the pub was so close I probably would have eaten there for the whole of my trip, but we only found it on our last night there.
I can seriously say that if I am in the area again I will definitely be returning to the Portsmouth arms for food and friendly banter, and a game of pool or two.

Had a brilliant time here for Sunday lunch. The landlord is really friendly and makes you feel welcome, the best part was free pool and darts! Sunday roast very reasonable at £10.99 and food was good for the price, with plenty of it. Everything reasonably priced including locally-made jams and chutneys. Quirky pub with its own train station (easy to get to from Exeter); if sat outside you can watch the trains coming past. Should be more old-school country pubs like this, has a lot of charm to it and we had a great time.

Popped in for a drink after a day at the beach, ended up staying for Sunday dinner which was amazing. Very large portions and all locally sourced, ended up staying until the early hours. Landlord was very friendly and told us about the history of the pub which was a nice touch, would definitely go again

Went for a Sunday roast on Easter Sunday. Train stops right next to the pub, staff were efficient and friendly. Food was amazing and great value, nice quirky place with Christmas decorations up all year round. Will definitely go back again.

Easy to access right on the A377,
Very pleasant pub with nice atmosphere and staff.
We were given a complimentary bowl of roast spuds which was nice to nibble on while we had our drinks
Haven't use the rooms so couldn't comment

My husband and I visited today for Sunday lunch. We are on holiday in the area. This is a proper pub. Very friendly and welcoming and eager to share the fascinating history of their establishment with you. Our meal was excellent. Everything was freshly cooked and prepared from good quality products. Okay, there wasn't loads of choice but if you just want a really decent Sunday roast lunch and dessert and you aren't too picky, then you won't find many pubs that can offer you better value or quality. I would definitely return to this place both for a meal and the welcome.

A unique pub which has it's own Railway Station. Olde worlde with a cosy log burner. A tradition has been set where the Xmas decorations remain up all year! The food here is great and excellent value plus every one was really friendly. 2 real Ales in top condition. Thanks

Good well kept beer and an excellent selection of other drinks. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly owners. Food is traditional pub fare, very well cooked and at great prices. Also does excellent Sunday Roast lunches.

Lovely welcoming staff. The landlord managed to squeeze us and our kids in for dinner even though they were super busy - we were so grateful after a long day!
The food was really tasty, the atmosphere was good and the pub is family friendly.
Highly recommend

We called in for dinner over Easter and was made to feel very welcome by the owner who couldn't do enough to make our time there perfect. Food was great, kids were made to feel at home with loads of games for them. Highly recommended

Rang a day ahead to book evening meal and place in car park for our 8m motor home. Landlord very accommodating, no additional charge for overnight parking. Food and outdoor service really good. Will return if in the area.

Stayed here the night before our daughters wedding at Tree Tops Escape. Lovely traditional pub with rooms above and 2 little cottages. We had a meal cooked by the lovely Karen who fed 13 of us. Delicious food, very generous portions and nothing too much trouble. If you like gin Steve has a very well stocked gin shelf! Cottage basic but very cosy and perfect for what we needed. They don't serve breakfast but Steve supplied us with copious slices of toast, marmalade, jam, marmite, coffee and tea to set us up on the wedding day. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if in the area. Keep doing what you're doing Steve and Karen and thank you!

Lovely, friendly, unpretentious pub. Great food, drinks and value. Friendly, happy people working there. Pool table to keep teenagers entertained, nice outdoors area and cosy inside. Perfect.

The proprietors (Andy and Dee) are very welcoming, obliging and nothing is too much trouble, even our dog was treated like a lord. Dee does really good home cooking, everything cooked from scratch. The pub is very old and they have kept the essence of a genuine friendly country pub. Its rooms are spotless. Thank you both for such a good time, we added another day.

12 months later and we have returned. Again what a lovely reception. My husband and I really rate this place, the proprietors and prices very highly. And yet again, well cooked food and plenty of it. At least a 5* rating again from us and the dog.
