Fornside is a really tranquil location, very peaceful with utterly superb views overlooking green fields and sprinkled with farm animals viewed from the cottage windows. Easy access to town centre with so many drives, walks, hikes at your finger tips ready to explore.
The cottages reflect total authenticity with a contemporary and spotless interior inside of all of the cottages. The owners have put their heart and soul into ensuring all guests feel very welcome!
My husband and I visited Fornside for over twenty years and would honestly never attempt to visit anywhere else. We now
have the next generation visiting in May!
Thank you !

Stayed in Swaledale Garth with my husband and labrador. The cottage was immaculate and very well equipped. Very easy to get to off the A66 but feels like a world away from the hubub of normal life. Definitely worth a visit. The owners also stock their own meat and produce which sadly we didn't realise before we arrived, so, having already stocked up at the supermarket we missed out. When we were there it was possible to get a variety of meat, local milk and honey.

My partner and I visited Riggs Barn at Fornside in March for a well needed week of rest and recuperation. What a stunning place. The location is unbelievable. So peaceful and picturesque; a good nights sleep is guaranteed and you’re spoilt for choice if you’re looking for some great walks. Riggs Barn itself is fantastic. So cosy with everything you could possibly need, plus the most comfortable of beds. We were certainly sad to leave, and hope to visit again in the future. Great location, great hosts; I couldn’t recommend Fornside highly enough.

We had a wonderful time at Fornside Farm staying in Rigg Barn. If you are looking for a relaxing break with stunning views, clear sky starry nights and peace and quiet this is the place for you. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, comfortable beds, deep snuggly sofas and a welcoming log burner. You can buy freshly laid eggs from the hens, ducks and geese, which we had most days….delicious. There are lots of walks surrounding the cottage and things to do nearby. We went into Keswick, Ambleside and Kendal, took a boat trip to Bowness, visited Castlerigg stone circle on spring equinox (magical) and went to the Lake District Wildlife Park, all close by. 100% recommend Fornside Farm.

What a great place. Perfect location for exploring all the lakes has to offer and within easy reach of Keswick. Set in a beautiful location. The cottage was really well equipped, well thought out and roomy for the 4 of us with young 2 young children. Joanna and Matt were the perfect hosts, and the home grown eggs and sausages amazing! Thank you

We chanced upon this place because we took a wrong turn, and so glad we did! We stayed at Herdwick Fold for four nights and it was the perfect holiday for us. The cottage itself was very thoughtfully done up - cosy, clean and perfect.

The farm is so lovely - our little one (and us!) had the most amazing time looking at sheep, hens, ducks and geese and running around the place. Matt and Joanna have thought of everything - including access to farm fresh eggs and meat!

The location is excellent for a lot of walks and exploration - it is remote enough to give you lots of privacy and quiet time, but also close to towns like Keswick and Grasmere if you need some hustle and bustle.

I hope we are able to return some day. Thank you!

A beautiful place to stay, very welcoming with everything that you could need for a holiday. With easy access to walks from the farm it’s perfect if you want to leave the car behind, if not it’s well located for plenty of other trips. Joanna and Matt have thought of everything, the cottage was very spacious and extremely comfortable, they are very welcoming and provide plenty of information in the cottage for you and are on hand should you need anything more.

Really lovely, can’t recommend highly enough, I will definitely return.

Just back from a lovely long weekend. We stayed in Swaledale Garth and the cottage was Impeccable and perfect. The owners had thought of everything and were very welcoming. The landscape that the cottages sit in is breathtaking with plenty to explore on the doorstep. A great hideaway to escape to to explore the northern lakes but still in easy reach of the beautiful town of keswick. We will be back to stay again. We were lucky enough to be visited numerous times by the red squirell hopping around on the patio.

The lovely owners have really thought of everything to make your holiday perfect- especially for walkers. Trays for muddy boots, a hallway to take all your waterproofs and boots off in, loads of pegs for hanging coats and trousers, a log fire to warm up in front of. Beautifully and practically laid out cottage with tons of space. Joanna and her family really care about you enjoying your stay and are on hand to help with anything, the joy of a family owned and managed holiday cottage rather than the company run ones who just don't care. We don't often return to the same cottage (except one other family owned cottage!), but we will definitely be returning here. Thank you for a great stay!

We had a wonderful break in the Old Byre. It was a really comfortable cottage in an amazing location; somewhere in the lakes that we had never visited before. We had a great cycle around Derwent water and the more local lanes to the cottage. We also did some of the walks local to Threlkeld. We had some nice meals in the Horse and Farrier in Threlkeld and a wonderful afternoon tea at Lyssick hall. We hope to return soon!

This place is great. My wife and I are just finishing a two week holiday here. There are 3 good sized cottages and a barn on the farm itself. Ours was in good condition, clean and with good facilities (dishwasher, washing machine, freeview, wifi). There's a separate shared utility room with a dryer in too.
The best thing though is the farm and its location. You are surrounded by sheep and mountains and close to great hikes, good pubs and Keswick for shops etc.
Robert and Pam who run the place are very friendly and helpful.
Highly recommended!
