Just got back from staying in a Shepherds Hut for 4 nights just outside the village. We popped into Red Lion on Monday for our first night & I had the steak which beautiful & the peppercorn sauce was amazing, not like anything I'd had before & I eat a lot of steak with peppercorn sauce in different places & this has to be the best so far, husband had the belly pork which was also amazing. It was that good we went back on the Wednesday. We both had the burgers & again it was just beautiful. Also had the homemade lemon tart & brownie, again amazing. Can't fault the food in this place at all. Not your normal pub grub, it was far better & definitely recommend. Also book your table so you won't be disappointed of you can't get in. We will be back on our next visit for sure 😊

Really great food, and amazing service despite limited staff and a full pub. Have been several times and will definitely be going again.

Wow what a lovely little gem of a pub! We stopped in for lunch - really down to earth friendly vibe. the bartender was lovely and really attentive. Food was incredible, and lots of places say food is homemade but you can tell it’s not, this is definitely homemade using really good quality fresh produce. I had the steak and ale pie & chips and the other half had the all day breakfast, both absolutely delicious. Proper log fire burning and incredible drinks selection - Real ale served in proper jugs as well, I could go on… if you’re ever in the area definitely give this place a go, these guys know hospitality :)

Food was fantastic we had a 3 course each, we both had steak and it was cooked perfectly, well worth the money. The only thing I would say is the desserts weren't amazing , will definitely be returning for the meals but not desserts

This is an excellent traditional pub that also does food. With its roaring real fire and comfortable seating at one end, and a pool table at the other it's got great atmosphere. Jennings and Wainwright hand pull beers are served at their best. Range of lagers and ciders as well. Excellent service from the friendly staff. Recommended. Nearby pay and display car park.

Great pub . We often use it as a treat after a hard days work. A pint of lager and a burger and chips. Super.

2nd visit to this lovely little pub. Great staff, friendly and good sense of humour. It is busy at times so advise to book in advance.
Meal met the standard of the last time we came so it wasn't a one off the last time. Compliments to the chef on fish and chips, Chicken burger and the gammon. All washed down with a good selection of beers and lagers.
Dog friendly, 🐕

Can't fault this place at all. Booked a table earlier in the day, turned up on time, food came out quickly and was good. Steak and ale pie had decent pieces of steak in it and Emma thought the sausage was really good.
Emily enjoyed the kids meal and absolutely loved the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream
Betty, our collie loved meeting all of the other dogs
Will definitely go back next time we are up that way
Didn't stay there. Popped in for some dinner. But had to rate them on it.

Myself and companions are in the red lion for the three nights of our stay last week. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend. We did witness one table who had arrived late have slight issues , but felt it was handled with professionalism. The wait times are not unreasonable for home cooked food rather than a standard product microwaved hot. The lasagna was one of the best I've had in years and they swopped chips for salad without any issue.

We loved the Red Lion during our recent holiday in Sedbergh. We ate here several times and popped in for drinks by the fire and a game of pool most days.
The bar staff are wonderful! They go above and beyond and work hard to make sure everyone is happy. Hannah is an incredible asset to the pub, she even remembered our drinks order after just the first visit! Our children and dogs loved the pub and we were all made to feel so welcome. A fabulous pub!

Very welcoming and accommodating, a traditional independent pub with plenty of character in the building and the staff couldn't do enough for us, fantastic lady behind the bar.
Great that it is dog friendly and happily provided our pup with some gravy bones for free and a small meal for our dog at an incredibly reasonable price.
Food was very clearly homemade, generously portioned and tasted delicious.
Made me feel right at home, will definitely visit if I'm up this way again.

We decided to book a room last minute on Nye at the red lion. Hanna was so welcoming and showed us to our room . We had everything we wanted and more. Our bed and pillows were perfect. It was super clean and the towels were lovely. We hadn't booked a table but She squeezed us in for a evening meal which was outstanding, the chefs need a mention and an award in my opinion! Full of flavor beautifully presented and fresh, We had a fantastic breakfast this morning and nothing was too much trouble for Hannah and her team.
I will definitely be booking again .
Thanks Terraine and Phil O'Connor-Teale

We had such a warm welcome when we first arrived on the Thursday evening. The food was delicious and wholesome, the company was great and Hannah is a brilliant bartender and server for visitors and locals alike. So much so, that we booked a table for every evening of our long weekend away. The Red Lion in Sedbergh is well worth a visit!

Hannah on the bar is a delight - we sat by the bar to have tea (the beef burgers, upgrading to handcut chips is a must!!!!) and she was an amazing hostess to everyone there from start to finish. Really friendly, relaxed atmosphere and great music, company, dog-friendly too. We had a look at other bars/pubs in the area but so glad we stuck with the Red Lion - unpretentious and absolutely delicious food!!

My family and I had a wonderful meal at the Red Lion this evening. The food was fantastic and very good value. I especially loved the roast beef which melted in the mouth. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the complimentary drink to celebrate my husband's birthday was a lovely gesture.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal this evening. Everything was cooked beautifully and served with a smile by the waitress & jolly chef! Only shame was Hannah wasn't there! But thanks for the birthday drink, much appreciated 🤗 Will definitely call again when visiting.

Amazing stay. Great food, hugely welcoming, bedrooms had everything we needed for the family. A badly needed pampering from Hannah. She made the stay super special with a birthday breakfast for the 10 year old. Well above and beyond anywhere we have stayed before. Thanks Hannah, we will be back, Family Johnston.xxx
