Velebitski botanički vrt

What a beautiful location! We visited this area on our hike to Veliki Zavižan (the steep route). 1480 metres is the elevation of the Botanical Garden Velebit. A 600 meter circular stone path surrounds the sinkhole known as Balinovaka Ponikva, which is located in the middle of the Velebit garden. The adjacent summits of Velika Kosa, Balinovac and Veliki Zavižan are all accessible by hiking up one of the mountain trails from here. You can also descend the sinkhole from the circular walkway using stone steps, which can be a bit slippery.

Currently, the garden is home to about 300 different plant species, some of which are native to Velebit and others of which are rare imported species. A rockery filled with a variety of plant and herb species is particularly picturesque. The Garden can be toured in one hour of leisurely walking, and June and July are the best months to go because most of the plants are in bloom at that time. Highly recommended!

Velebit Botanical Garden is located in a small valley between Velika kosa and Veliki Zavižan peaks. It was established in 1967. There are more than 300 plants here, gathered from the whole Velebit mountain. The most important are Croatian endemic flowers Degenia velebitica and Sibirea altaiensis croatica. Edelweiss and many others are also here. Many educational panels tell a story of Velebit's flora. The garden is most attractive in June and July when everything blossoms.

Nice tour trough Velebit herbs. You just walk through natural mountain field and herbs are marked with names.

Botanischer Garten ist sehr nett. Der Rundweg um die Senke ist auch super schön.

Très beau circuit botanique avec pas mal d’espèces. Très beau paysage.

I was really interested to see it while climbing surrounding peaks Zavizan and Balinovac. Unfortunately, due to unusual weather conditions in June most of the plants shown with tags were not visible at all. I will come again and hope that tags will be more informative. And I think that some stupid ones are destroying some tags ... shameful behavior.
