This is a 1000 year old Hoysala temple. Very well maintained by the authorities. There are a cluster of temples neayby and also Ramanuja statue. Ideal for a day's picnic. There are no restaurants nearby, only small shops and tender coconut stalls. Lake kere tonnur is right behind the temple. There is a mud road which goes over hill to get a picturesque view of the lake.
Best is to visit early before 10 AM and wind up by 1 PM due to intense heat.

It was just wow 🤩 and the temple dates more than 1000yrs old. This was the first place Sri Ramanujar first visited from tamilnadu. The temple is under ASI and protected monuments of Karnataka. The temple is situated at Pandavapura taluk, Kere Thonnur town. Very few ppl visit to this temple and also there is a Narashima swamy temple just beside this temple. It is said that the main deity was installed by Baktha Prahalad.

Sri Nambi Narayana Swamy Temple is than 1500 years old. Big granite stone South Indian style architecture temple. The temple existed when Sri Ramanuja Achariya stay here in 9th century AD. King Vishnuvardhan renovated the temple. The granite tall swajastamba majestically stand in front of the temple. Very big temple.

Nambi Narayana Temple is a very old temple dating back to the period of Sri Ramanujacharya who stayed in this place then called Thondanuru now called Kere Thonnur, Here the diety is Mahavishnu called Nambi Narayana holding Shanku ( Conch) in right hand and chakra in left hand to etch their mark on his Bhaktha . The Garuda gambia situated outside seems standing at right side of the main door if seen from out side and from inside it looks situated at the centre of the door.

Peaceful and well maintained place, the idol looks majestic, the lawn in the front is neatly decored.
Had visited this place while going back to Bangalore from Mysore.
It was October, in the evening time, this place was at its best when it was drizzling and breezy.

The Nambi Narayana temple was believed to be constructed during the 12th century. The temple is 1000years old and it was built by Hoysala ruler Vishnuvardhana. There is a belief that the temple was built after defeating Cholas in Talakadu. Sri Ramanujacharya (Vaishnava saint) came to this place from Srirangam was welcomed by his disciple named Nambi. The saint Ramanujacharya cured the Jain king Bittidevas daughter from savior illness. The king influenced by Vaishnavism and converted into Vaishnava later, he becomes famous as King Vishnuvardhana.

During the period of Sri Ramanajucharya Thannuru was the second virtual capital of the Hoysala Dynasty. The king Vishnuvardhana constructed the Nambi Narayana temple in traditional style.

Enroute to Nagarahole wild life sanctuary, we had an unplanned visit to this temple.

Wow !! It was worth the visit ..... driving through the lush green farm lands.

1000 year old temple.

Deity is Narayana and is one of the Pancha Narayana temples; others being - Melukote Cheluva Narayana, Keerthi Narayana at Thaakkad, Veera Narayana at Gadag and Sowmya Narayana at Belur.

Unknowingly, I had now completed visiting all the five !!

Though built by Hoysalas, you wouldn’t see the sculptors similar to that of Belur nor Gadag.

However, the simplicity of this temple and the magnificence of the idol stands out !!

A Hoysala Temple which is hidden away from the highway.Very less people visit this temple and it is very peaceful. The statues of the god inside are larger than life and breathtaking. The typical Hoysala architecture is present only on the inside , not on the outside. A must-visit place if you are near.

One of the most neat and clean temple I have seen yet. There's no fuss, well maintained temple with really good idols. The temple is located in middle of a village and hence there are no flurry of people here even on the weekends, it probably would get crowded in festival period.
