Srivilliputtur Andal Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort Andal, who is also known as Lakshmi. The temple is located in Srivilliputtur, a town in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holy abodes of Vishnu, and also the birthplace of two of the Alvars, the saint-poets who composed hymns in praise of Vishnu. The temple is famous for its towering gopuram, which is the emblem of the Government of Tamil Nadu, and its rich history and culture.

Some of the main features of the temple are:

- The temple has three shrines: one for Vatapatrasayi, the reclining form of Vishnu, one for Andal, the incarnation of Lakshmi, and one for Periyalvar, the father of Andal and a devotee of Vishnu.
- The temple has a 194-foot high gopuram, which is the tallest in Tamil Nadu and has 12 tiers of sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and the life of Andal. The gopuram was built by Vijayanagara king Barathi Rayar in the 16th century.
- The temple has a large pond called Nandavanam, where Andal is believed to have played as a child and composed her hymns. The pond is surrounded by a garden with various flowers and plants, which are used for making garlands for the deities.
- The temple has a hall called Kalyana Mandapam, where the wedding ceremony of Andal and Vatapatrasayi is celebrated every year in the month of Panguni (March-April). The hall has exquisite paintings and carvings depicting the wedding scene and the divine couple.
- The temple has a museum called Andal Arulmozhi Thirukkoil, which displays various artifacts and relics related to the temple and Andal. The museum has a collection of ancient coins, inscriptions, manuscripts, idols, jewellery, and musical instruments.

The temple is also known for its musical and cultural traditions, such as:

- The temple is a centre of Carnatic music, as Andal is considered to be the first female composer of this genre. The temple hosts regular concerts and festivals, where renowned musicians and singers perform the hymns of Andal and other Alvars.
- The temple is a hub of classical dance, as Andal is regarded as the patroness of Bharatanatyam, the classical dance form of Tamil Nadu. The temple organizes dance recitals and competitions, where talented dancers showcase their skills and devotion to Andal and Vishnu.
- The temple celebrates various festivals throughout the year, such as Aani Alvar Uthsavam (June-July), Thiruvadipooram (August), Purattasi Utsavam (October), Ennaikappu (December-January), and Panguni Thirukkalyana Utsavam (March-April). These festivals attract thousands of devotees and tourists, who participate in the rituals and ceremonies and enjoy the cultural programs and processions.

Srivilliputtur Andal Temple is a divine treat for anyone who loves art, architecture, music, dance, and spirituality. It is a place where you can experience the beauty and grace of Andal and Vishnu, and also learn about the rich heritage and culture of Tamil Nadu.

Srivilliputhur Temple belongs to one of the 108 divyadesams of Lord Vishnu. This temple is said to be of 2000 years old and initially known as Varaha Kshethra. Here one of the two deities is Andal - believed to be Avtar of godess Lakshmi – was found as a baby near a Tulsi Plant in the temple garden and was looked after by Periazhvar, a strong devotee of Vishnu. It is also believed that Lord Sriranganatha(Vishnu) married Andal and she vanished into the idol at Sree Rangam Temple. The other deity is Vadapathrasai whose idol is in the posture of Anantha Shayana, rests on a banyan tree leaf, on the first floor of the temple and can be viewed by three doors in the sanctum. Numerous inscriptions made during the rule of Pandya Kings and paintings of Vijayanagar can still be seen on the pillars and walls The tall gopura at the entrance of the temple is having 192 Ft height and is the official emblem of Tamil Nadu State Government. The large chariot there is also famous.

Superb well appointed temple with a gigantic gopuram and multiple shrines, mandapams etc. across the site. Living history and the stylised version of the gopuram is on the official emblem of the state of Tamil Nadu. Unlike many other similar temples, there were absolutely no hustlers, no pushy priests or assistants, clean paths and stairways and more!!! We had visited both the annex as well as the main shrine. There was a 100/- quick entry for one darshan which was worth the money as this section had a bit of a queue. The rest was straight walk through for the darshan. The pujaris were knowledgeable and gave a brief description in english and hindi too! Stunning visuals - one for the bucket list!
