To witness the wildlife and to get a breather from the busy city life, this is the best place. The ride through this forest makes our day. Such an amazing experience. Cool breeze and breathtaking scenaries. Dams and reservoirs adds to its beauty. A must visit for a nature lover. Roads are now repaired and and even small cars can comfortably travel through. There are still some parts where road is damaged but not that much to hamper an enjoyable ride.

A quiet and peaceful place amidst the dense forest. It has quite a number of beautiful spots to get amazed and also getting to those places in such a bliss because there is only one road that goes all the way from starting to the end of the forest and in between is this place and the road is quite narrow but still a beautiful drive along the way. But mind you this forest does contain some groups elephants and if you are lucky you can spot them on your way since this is also a part of the Periyar national park. Once you enter the forest at the beginning, you will not get any kind of signal on your phone BSNL users might get some signal at very few places and that's how you can tell this place is quite remote and that's the speciality. It's very green and fresh everywhere. The roads at almost most places are not that's nice, very bumpy and at some places there are almost no road at all, just gravel, sand and rocks with all kinds of slushy mud so make sure your car is capable of going through all of it.
But nevertheless, it'll be a daring and beautiful thrilling experience.

Reserve forests covering 1,057 square kilometres (408 sq mi) and vested forests covering 1.5 square kilometres (0.6 sq mi) are the major types of forests in this division. The Ranni Forest Division, with its natural beauty and richness in flora and fauna, is a storehouse of many varieties of plants and animals. The forests in the Ranni range can be classified into the following categories.

West coast tropical evergreen forests
West coast semi-evergreen forests
Southern moist mixed deciduous forests
Southern sub tropical wet hill forests
Southern montane wet temperate forests
Reed breakes
Grass lands
Manmade forests
The Goodrical forest range is situated in the eastern side of Pathanamthitta district, with an area of 654 square kilometres (253 sq mi). Comparatively, human interference is less in these forests than in others in India. But at times of the Sabarimala pilgrimage, these forests ranges are crowded with devotees. Evergreen and semi-evergreen types of forests are here. There are three forest stations under this range

Forests of Ranni Division are a rich repository of biological diversity comprising one of the best natural ecosystems of the state. The wet evergreen forests of Goodrical Range situated far away from the human habitation are least prone to biotic interference.

Ranni, sometimes spelled Ranny, is one of the 5 Taluks in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, in India. According to the Census of India 2001, the population was 207,782. The taluk headquarters is a small township on both sides of the Pamba River. Ranni is also one of the largest taluks in Kerala. The renowned Hindu temple of Sabarimala is in this taluk, situated approximately 66 km from the main town, Ittiappara. Ranni is known for its natural beauty, forests, hills, river and good climate.
The history of Ranni can be traced 5000 years back to the early settlement activity of Adi Dravidans around Sabarimala and Nilackal. The temple at Sabarimala is an early temple of Kerala, dating back to around 2000 years. The deity's sitting posture and resemblance of the prayer 'Sharanam vili' to "Buddham Sharanam / Sangam Sharanam" points to the Buddhist past. Buddhist hermits always prefer to stay in interior jungles for solitary contemplation to attain Nirvana. The word 'Ayya' is a Buddhist Pali word means Lord/God. A church at Nilackal is believed to be one of the seven churches founded by St. Thomas in AD 54. There was an ancient trade route passed through Nilackal between Kerala and Pandian kingdom.
