Sabarimala pamba

My visit to Sabarimala was an unforgettable journey of faith and self-discovery. The arduous trek through the dense forests, punctuated by the melodious chants of "Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa," instilled a sense of determination and devotion within me. Each step was a testament to the enduring spirit of pilgrimage and the quest for divine grace..

The Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is a Hindu temple that is devoted to the worship of a deity named Ayyappan, also known as Dharma Shasta. Ayyappan is believed to be the son of Shiva and Mohini Female avatar of Lord VishnuThe temple is situated atop a hill in the village of Ranni-Perunad, within the Ranni Taluk of the Pathanamthitta district in the state of Kerala, India. The temple is surrounded by 18 hills in the Periyar Tiger Reserve.It is one of the largest annual pilgrimage sites in the world, with an estimate of over 10 to 15 million devotees visiting every year.

The Sabarimala temple does not have any ancient or medieval references. Nevertheless, there are extant late medieval references pertaining to the temple.

The Pandalam ruling family drafted a mortgage document in 1793. It states that the royal family is pledging the revenue returns, which encompass the income generated by the Sabarimala Temple, to the Tranvancore state.

In 1863, Ward and Conner published an article that provided a description of Sabarimala and its vicinity.

In the year 1902, the ruler of Travancore issued a directive for the restoration of the Sabarimala temple, which had suffered damage as a result of a fire incident. Kochu Thomman, a Mavelikkara resident of Christian faith, funded and carried out the reconstruction contract

In the year 1950, temple was rebuilt after arson attack No charges were brought, and the earlier stone image of the deity was replaced by a panchaloha (an alloy of five metals) idol, about 1 and a half feet tall. Neelakanta Panicker and his younger brother, Ayyappa Panicker, who are members of the Thattavila Vishwakarma family in Chengannur, Kerala, created the Panchaloha idol to replace the original stone statue of the deity. Edavankadan T.N. Padmanabhan Achari from Mavaelikkara was appointed the supervisor in charge of the new idol by Maharaja Sree Chithira Tirunaal Balarama Varma. In the early 1950s, through P. T. Rajan efforts, the present panchaloha idol of Ayyappan was installed at Sabarimalai, and a procession was taken all over Madras state.

Sabarimalai shree dharma sasthaa ayyappa swamy temple is located in between five mountains. So called ayyappa swamy is also called by devotees as ஐந்து மலைக்கு அதிபதியே. It's quite a long history of ayyappa swamy avatharam but to be short, ayyappa Swami's avatharam is to kill mahishasura marthini devil who killed and torcher people and sadhus., meanwhile being adopted child of pandhala maharaja, his minister and spouse were asked sendoff ayyappa swamy. With no interest in their decision maharaja asked to bring tiger milk to her mother by lying she is being ill and the only cure is the tiger milk. Being GOD avatharam ayyapa swamy went into the forest with a bag on top of his head ( now a days known as "Irumudi") and killed the devil mahishasura marthini and came back with thousands of tigers to the palace. Upon seeing all the things happening maharaja and others apologized and asked ayyappa swamy to stay with them but ayyapa swamy said , if you all want to meet me ,- come to my place where I live. With that ayyapa swamy aimed the arrow and it hit upon a mountain - which is now called sabarimala.
Over to the present, compared to previous years the improvement of development is good. Devotees are facing no major difficulties upon climbing the mountain. But this time the devotees are more in number for dharisanam. It took nearly 8hrs for dharisanam plus 3hrs for climbing the mountain. Divine feel and much relaxing.

While visiting Sabarimala, the devotees used to take baths from this river!
The river is so captivating to catch a glimpse of!
It provides a serene ambience over here!

Lakhs of devotees used to take a shower in the holy Pamba river as part of a Hindu mythology belief!
While taking a bath here, they could avoid all the first and negativities from their mind itself believed!!!

Holy place where large pilgrims faith on Lord ayyappa but kerla government, Devasom Board& Very worst Kerala police activities ( Scolding in bad words)

Water is less in Pampa River but still cool and nice water

One of the must visit temples in India and the greatness of this God is incredible.
It will be open only for 3-4 months in the winter season and if you are a Swami you'll get an opportunity to walk on 18 golden steps.
Coming to maintenance they have to improve a lot, while climbing the mountains most of the bathrooms are not well maintained and the smell is very bad.
The only transportation available to carry things are tractors and some ambulance vehicles to carry pilgrims if they are extremely sick or something happens.

but restaurant isn't good

Wonderful place with sanctity and divinity personified;Best route to reach Sabarimala is to reach Pamba from anywhere-walk & trek close to 5 kms (which takes approx.3 hours in slow phase),reach Sannidhanam;nearest railway station is Chengannur & Kottayam-plenty of buses available from railway station/bus stand.Ensure you have proper guru in case of visiting with Irumudi,for better co-ordination.Temple is open for Irumudi from mid Nov-mid Jan & for monthly pujas during specific days only;Photos/videos strictly prohibited inside Sannidhanam.Ensure and abide by statutory do's and don'ts and follow protocols issued by TRAVANCORE DEVASOM BOARD.

Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha temples in Kerala.

Good place but management was very bad....even drinking water also not available....

So much to climb. It is a wonderful experience

This is an divine and fresh river name pamba its has equal to punya nadhi ganga sami ayyappan has been identified in river belt by pandala Kingdom king now days people's are through there cloth and make polluted river so people has take care this holy river

Divine.
There are viri(carpet) to keep irumudi and belongings so that one can go and have bath in pamba and get ready.
Cost per viri is rs.30/- as on 22/03/2024

Maintenance in viri room is good.

River pamba is very sacred place you can take bath and start to climb .. you wil get lockers all the basic things in pamba

River pampa. Ganapati Temple is here. Provision for irumudi kettu is there. From here around 5-6km to sannidhanam. Normally it take around 1.5hours to reach. May vary with rush. There are two paths. Neelimala and Swamy Ayyapan road. Neelimala is steep, whereas Swamy Ayyapan road have lot of hairpin.

Holy shrine for devotees of faith

It's a Beautiful River related to Sabarimala.Blessed Water can make every person calm, peace . It's a beautiful view. Lot of people take bath here before entering to the Sabarimala Way.Also plenty of shop's available here. Beautiful atmosphere here.There is KSRTC Terminal near to the Pamba River.
Pamba is a big part of Sabarimala .
