Swamimalai is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan…!
It is located 8km from Kumbakonam bus station and frequent mini buses are available…
The temple features excellent architecture, though not as grand as other abodes like Palani or Thiruchendur and offers a pleasant Lord Murugan darshan.
However, mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple..!!

Harom Hara!!!

This Kumara Swamy Mandir, Swamy malai is one of the 06 powerful mandir's of Danda Pani.

This beautiful mandir is nestled on a small hill & it is bustling with authentic Tamil culture.

Traditional Tamil ceremonies for children & young adults takes place.

One need to hike 60 steps to reach the adobe those steps represent 60 years in a Tamil calander.

We went with a ₹100/- direct entry darshan & it was so worthy. We are so near to Murugan & the head pandit was just chanted our names & offered us with Swamy flower mala & viboothi.

We had great holistic time.

Try to visit as it is quite near to Kumbakonam.

Very powerful Murugan temple. Many steps are present, (steps riser is more than standard )which should be climbed to reach main Murugan temple . The vibes are very peaceful and calming . Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati temples are on the ground floor . Diya’s were available inside temple .
It was an auspicious day - Magan pournami- when we visited so a bit more crowded it was.

This temple is one among the six veedu of the Lord Muruga. It's located on the main junction. The temple is very pleasing and has good vibes. The car parking is charged for 50rs. To refresh we can use the Royal bhavan hotel.

There are steep steps but it might be less than 100 only . It's difficult to climb by the old people.

It was much less crowded when I visited the temple. The ghee Deepam can be brought upstairs next to the Swami itself.

Beautiful temple with great history. One of the 6 Murugan temples. Parking is bit difficult during peak hours. It’s better to take 100 /person ticket so that you can have near and clear Darshan of murugan. 60steps but easy ones to climb.

Fourth "Padai Veedu" (Abodes) of lord Murugan is Swamimalai temple.

One of the remarkable features of this temple is it was built on artificial mountain.

It is said to be the place where Lord Murugan teaches pranavam (Om) for Lord Shiva, it is also known as Gurumalai.

Calm and vibrant temple..

Rid temple is dedicated to lord Murugan. Bringing that, Swamimalai is where Muruga preached the "Pranava mantra" ( AUM ) to his father, Shiva, at a young age.

The temple is said to have been built in early 2nd century BC by Parantaka Chola I.

These six sacred abodes of Murugan are mentioned in Tamil Sangam literature, Thirumurugatrupadai. The six abodes are
1. Thiruparankundram
2. Tiruchendur
3. Palani
4. Swamimalai
5. Tiruttani
6. Pazhamudircholai

Beautiful temple, and one of the 6 holy shrines of Lord Murugan, Swamimalai is a historic temple, and is located near the temple town of Kumbakonam. It is quite crowded at all times, but it is worth the visit, the statue of Murugan is large and very resplendent. Phones are not allowed into the main shrine and have to be deposited at the storage centre in front of the temple, but you can leave it at your car for better safety.

One of the 6 abodes of Lord Muruga, swamimalai has its rich heritage architectural grandeur and spiritual ambience.

The temple is renowned for its architectural beauty and historical significance, with inscriptions dating back to the Chola period. It attracts devotees from far and wide, especially during festivals like Panguni Uthiram and Thai Poosam, when elaborate ceremonies and processions take place.

One if the six abodes of lord Murugan. Easy accessibility by public bus transportation. Only about to take 50 steps to reach the main shrine. Less crowded compared to other abodes. Nearest city will be Kumbakonam. Can get the glimpse of kaveri river while travelling towards the temple. Not many hotels available near the temple. Peaceful atmosphere.

One of the six famous Murugan temples. Not many steps there but hardly 100. This is more pleasant in the morning time, no crowd in the early hours.

A very ancient but sacred Hindu Temple situated in Swamimalai, on the banks of Kaveri river, near Kumbakonam of Thanjavur. Subramanian (Arulmigu Sree Murugan) being the main deity, there are several other deities around the premises of Sree Kovil. We can feel a positive vibe once we step into the temple premises. As per legendary books Lord Shiva becomes a student to learn the meaning of Pranava Manthra and therefore The lord has been named as Swaminathar. A serene place. As there are sixty steps to reach Sree Kovil, it may be difficult for those who cannot climb steps, but on the whole a must visit place at least one time in our life.
