Nature blessed pilgrimage. Very peaceful place with experiencing the nature and spirituality rituals. Even in weekends are not too rush. The temple constructions are seem to be done hundreds of years ago and now it was reconstructed with Granite rocks due to this reconstruction the olden era views maybe lost.

Thirunelli Temple holds a special place in my heart as a nostalgic destination. I've visited this temple numerous times with my family to perform rituals for our ancestors. We would arrange two or three jeeps and set out early in the morning from Nadapuram in Kozhikode district. We'd traverse the Kuttiady Churam (mountain pass) to reach Wayanad and then proceed to Thirunelli Temple.

The journey to the temple offers breathtaking views and passes through dense forests where we often encounter a variety of wildlife, including deer, wild buffalo, monkeys, peacocks, and occasionally even elephants.

Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Mahavishnu, is nestled amidst the serene Brahmagiri hills and lush green forests, providing a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. It's renowned for its unique rituals and ancient architecture, believed to be the only temple in the world where devotees can perform all life-related rituals, from birth to death and beyond.

According to legend, Lord Brahma installed an idol of Lord Vishnu here, promising that the water surrounding the temple would wash away all sins, giving rise to the Papanashini stream. The temple is also famous for rituals performed on the banks of the Papanashini stream, believed to possess medicinal powers.

The temple premises boast attractions such as the holy rock for praying to forefathers, the cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the sacred pond, Panchatheertham. Additionally, there are shops offering forest products like honey, as well as restaurants and affordable accommodations nearby.

A scenic old temple near the Brahmagiri hills. The temple is often compared to Gaya in Bihar and is famous for the rituals conducted for the departed souls. By conducting rituals there, it is said that the emancipation for the departed souls is ultimate. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu in the form of Chaturbhuja. There are sub-deities of Ganapathy and Nagam.

I went to Sree Thirunelli Mahavishnu Kshetram for the second time, now the temple is under renovation works. The temple looked really old and special before, with a strong spiritual vibe. It's next to the big Brahmagiri hills and you get to see a beautiful view.

The temple is well known for the last rites and there's a river for that passing by. The way to the temple is amazing, especially in the early morning when you can see lots of animals. It's a great place for both spirituality and enjoying nature

I very nice place ofcourse apart from a temple. Hiding in a serene mountain range. Renovation of temple was going on when I visited. I will recommend a must visit place if you are visiting wayanad. If lucky you may come across elephants and deers enroute.

One of the beautiful temple sacred and lots of mystery and divine. Main God Vishnu along with Brahma and Shiva resides inside temple.
Situated at the foot of Brahmagiri Hills. Beautiful scenery and calm place.
It is too far from kalpetta wayanad region, around 1.5 hr journey situated in deep forest routes. Route to this temple is magnificent beautiful forest roads and wild animals will be crossed on road at early morning.

There is Papanasini stream Emanating from the heart of Brahmagiri forest flowing through roots, leaves and flowers of ancient trees and medicinal herbs, Papanasini is a holy mountain stream accessible around 1 km northwest of the temple premises. Pilgrims bathe here as they consider its waters to be sacred with powers to absolve one's sins. Further, the temple offers services to immerse cremation ashes in the sacred mountain stream to be thus carried to Kaveri River and from there to the ocean. This is a part of the last rites.

Located on the foot of Brahmagiri hills, is the quaint and picturesque Thirunelli Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and it’s one of the famous temples in Wayanad. It’s a masterpiece of simple yet enchanting Kerala style of architecture.

Thirunelli Temple Wayanad is also known as the “Kashi of the South.” It’s an ancient temple where Lord Brahma is said to establish the idol of Lord Vishnu. It’s believed that he found the idol on a gooseberry (amla) tree, locally known as nelli, thus giving Thirunelli its name.

It’s a unique place of religious importance to experience the powers of divine forces with the beauty of nature. You can be completely relaxed in its idyllic surroundings.

Thirunelli draws pilgrims from all over Kerala, primarily for ancestral rites. It’s said to be the only temple in the world where you can perform all the rituals related to one’s life.

Where is Thirunelli Temple in Wayanad?
Thirunelli Temple is about 50 km away from Wayanad, on the Kerala-Karnataka border. It’s in a valley surrounded by beautiful forests, with Brahmagiri hills as its backdrop. And a road trip to the temple through the hilly landscape can be exhilarating.

The temple was undergoing a bit of construction when i visited, we were staying in grt wayanad. There were multiple routes to the temple, we chose the one that passed through forest regions. It was scenic and aloof in certain areas. Saw lot of deers and monkeys. Not the best route if travelling late in the evening probably post 5. All in all definitely a good place to visit

Nestled amidst forests and hills in the lap of nature and the Western Ghats, the temple boasts a fantastic atmosphere. While the surroundings are breathtaking, there's room for improvement in parking and other facilities.

This temple have great religious significance among the locals, situated at a very beautiful location. The view of Brahmagiri hills surrounding the temple is just a visual delight. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and it feels so peaceful just sitting inside. The ride to the temple through the forest area is also worth it. Even in this hot summer this is one of the coolest place we could find arround Wayanad. Try reaching early in the morning so that you can see the real beauty of this place.

One of the most beautiful temples in Kerala. The route to this place is extremely blessed with natural beauty. If you are lucky, you may spot some wild animals as well.
However, it is not safe to ride through those roads late at night or during early morning. We saw an elephant so close to the road at around 9 pm
NB: Please confirm that the temple is open due to covid related restrictions.
