Build the runway to 1000 metres, by using cantilever beam extended path, from current existing runway (for area of no land surface), and run some ATR STOL test flights from here.I think, it looks very promising. Build a new domestic check-in and check-out cabin facility with Xray equipment scanning for baggage for domestic passengers, and a facial recognition system for faster identification, similar to Bangalore airport and this facility will be very much useful to many people looking to fly in or fly out directly to their homes, instead of going to main airports, thus reducing road traffic and time wastage for them and everyone else using roads, coming from Bangalore or Chennai or Trivandrum or even Kochi. From an engineering stand point, being studied engineering myself, I think, this is possible, but we need to develop it further. Fog is very much seen in rainy days and in winter season, so the runway needs long distance marking lights, and very precise runway positioning radio devices, installed on the runway. Crosswinds measuring anemometer should be installed there, and local precise wind data, should be radio linked to landing vehicles at landing times. Airstrip facility like these should be built in kerala, with lower operation costs, especially in Kottayam, and in Chengannur so that, more people can utilize the ATR STOL aircraft domestic flights better. Also, people on transit from major airports, can also directly fly here.
