Tourism has not touched this part. Serene bird watching with very enthusiastic guides . Please bring the best camera you can get your hands on.

No lunch nearby.... Plan accordingly.

Try early morning at 6ish for best experience.

Also as it birdwatching over a small boat for 2 hours with no shortcuts , it can get boring for some non enthusiastic members of the group

A very pleasant place. Can come to the watchtower directly for bird watching, there are many guides here who will assist you in a boat and tell about various birds. They charge you 1200 for 2-3 hrs which includes boating and the guide charges. The guides are very polite. You will be able to see many exotic migratory birds like ducks, herons, storks, terns, cormorants, kites, etc. It is best to come during sunrise or sunset (it gets crowded during sunset).

One of the best places to visit in Odisha, specially for bird lovers. Late December and the whole January is the best time to visit. It is a vast wetland area on the north-western part of Chilika lake. Boating charges is 1200 Rs per boat for a two hours trip. No extra parking charge. Public transport is not available. Apart from birds - u will just love the scenic beauty and the fresh air..

It's a wetland. Prime attraction is boating through the shallow backwaters and bird watching. Try to arrive early in the morning for the best experience. The boat fare is 1200/- for 4 persons. Try to negotiate if you are less than four. They have a guide and binoculars on the boat. Follow Google maps up to the Mangalajodi village. After that, ask local people for directions to the boating area. Drive carefully and slowly the final 1-2 km as the approach road gets narrower. It's a 1-1.5 hour trip by boat. For lunch/dinner, there are very limited options in the nearby Tangi market. You can try the Apsar hotel and restaurant. It's better to carry some cash. There is also a washroom near the boat booking area. And please don't carry plastics. You are entering into a natural habitat for birds.

Serene surrounding with so many exotic migratory birds around was a wonderful experience.
The soft spoken locals at boating centre are care takers of the visitor birds.
They take you around the lake silently and slowly so we can watch the birds closely without disrupting them.
Go early morning at 5 or 6 and you will get an heavenly time , a memory of a lifetime

A bird watcher's paradise and a photographer's delight. This place is recommended if you want Bird's Action Photograph. Birds are so near that photographs are so natural. Only one suggestion, the Chilika development authority should plan for a hanging bridge and a watching tower in middle.... anyways its a great place.

Mangaljodi is a bird sanctuary situated 75 km from Bhubaneswar.  It's a marshland on the northern edge of chilka lake. It's a bird watchers' paradise. Best time to visit this place is during the winter season when a lot migratory birds visit it. Birds migrate from  Ladakh and Himalayan region,  Central and South east Asia, Mongolia, and Russia etc and this marshland hosts nearly 300000 birds during winter months.

Mangaljodi is a classic example of poachers turned into protectors. Due to rampant poaching the number of birds had reduced to about 5000 only about 25 years ago.  Now the entire community of fisherman who depend on Chilka for their survival,  are protecting it  and depending on tourism for their livelihood. Some of them have become guides, know the name and origin of all types of birds. One must reach there early in the morning for better sighting of birds.  There are cottages available nearby for staying too. There are no restaurants nearby, but one can get some tea and snacks. Toilet facility is available at the site.
You can hire a boat on arrival and each boat comes with a guide.  Our guide  Dibas was an excellent guide and we could see a large number of birds.  This was my second trip to Mangaljodi and I would love to visit it in future.

It was great and pleasant experience to be here. One must surely visit this place to watch the migratory birds especially in the month of Dec to Feb. Boat safari is also available at this place for ₹1200/- per boat for 4 persons for 2 hours. One can even walk around the lake to watch the beautiful birds.
The boat safari includes a guide , a book on birds to refer and a binoculars.

Visit this place to enjoy this serene beauty.

Should treat your eyes with this beauty of nature at least once. Amazing varieties of feathered birds can be seen in winter season mainly. The tour guide (included in the total fee for boat ride i.e 1200rs) will give you exact information about all the bird species.

One of the most unbelievable place, if you do not see it, you just can not belive it. It is a paradise for bird lover and bird watchers. Taking a diversion from Bhubaneswar Berhampur NH you have to pass through some village roads to reach there, still you will see nothing so beautiful about it. Now sit in a boat which is manually rowed through the muddy wetlands and enter the inside of the wetland to see the beautiful sight of thousands of birds of different kinds throughout your boat ride of about 2 to 3 hours. The beauty of this place can only be felt just can not be described in words. Best time to visit this place is between Nov to Feb end and best time is early morning or before sunset. There are govt and private run hotels available for staying here. The boat rate varies according to the time, crowd and availablity. There are also official rate chart but try to bargain with them to get a good deal.

Wetland portion of Chilika lagoon. More than 92 species of birds are available to watch through manual boats. Bird population is more than 1.1 million spread over 3.5 square kilometers. Locals are doing excellent job in conserving the nature, protecting the birds and promoting the tourism. Most of the birds are migratory, coming from different parts of the globe.
