Il Conte Matto

This restaurant is not afraid to lean into flavor. And not to use it as a crutch. The pici was hug of garlic in every bite - no question the flavor but not overbearing. Like a hug from your favorite parent, not your overbearing aunt.

The pesto gnocchi allowed the flavors to shine through, a nice alternative to the green bomb that pesto can be. Delicate and fluffy gnocchi balanced with a bright green topping that rang true with every bite.

The desserts were fine, IMHO would just skip dessert at the restaurant and do dessert wines instead.

If you drive take the note the parking area is a few levels below the restaurant to the west. Easy to get there as long as you don’t need to reverse out of the little parking lot that isn’t for the restaurant in front of the restaurant :)

Lovely atmosphere, VERY friendly staff, and great service tucked away in a quiet town. Fresh and local Tuscan ingredients. Had a Chianina steak, pastas, and some of the best desserts we had in all of Italy. We went for a little sunset dinner and really enjoyed it outside.

Il Conte Matto has been one of my favorite food experiences in all of Italy. The restaurant has been awarded a bib gourmand Michelin award for many years due to its delicious food and reasonable price. We were first sat on a terrace overlooking beautiful Tuscan vineyards and ordered 2 refreshing and delicious aperitifs ("for tuscan nobles" and "tuscan youth") and had the beef tartare as an appetizer. The beef tartare was perfectly prepared and amazing 10/10. We also had the ravioli which was quite good. We also felt adventurous and tried the pigeon. This restaurant is an absolute must for the experience, sites, and the unforgettable food!!

I know the restaurant Conte Matto since more than 20 years now. This restaurant is a Family runned restaurant and serves local food from the Siena region. During the years they grew their range of choice and offer very fresh delicious food. The serving Staff, currently a young man and woman are very kind and very professional. They offer also the possibilty to serve in Italian and English which is a nice Plus for the amount of non-Italian visitors in the summer. I can highly recommand the restaurant, the service is good, child-friendly, price-quality balanced and the owner is a true Wine-specialist, who always knows you to offer true quality!!!

The best place in the region. It's always a go to for the excellent service and food. When we stay locally at Collalto we never miss.

Today, after two years of not being able to go, we finally returned to Il Conte Matto in Trequanda. As always, the food was superb, the host so friendly, accomodating and knowledgeable, and the scenery stunningly beautiful. This is our favourite place to come for a really special meal, always a pleasure, never disappointing. Five stars to Davide and his wife and chef . See you in September.

Returned again September 2023 and brought five friends from Canada and Ireland. The meal was superb. The service full score marks and it felt like coming home. We love David and his wife. Il Conte Matto is always on our places to visit when we come to Tuscany.

A wonderful gem in this small village. The cuisine is a fresh, local and well executed. I’ve lived in the area for only a month and have dined here three times.
Michelin recommended, and well worth the recognition.
The artichoke, (sometimes eggplant) flan in a pecorino fondue, and the carne crudo are my favorites. The pici pasta is a must try since it is a Tuscan pasta. Truly, nothing you order will disappoint, though. Enjoy the local food and the local wine with a breathtaking view. What else does one need to be happy?

Excellent and authentic restaurant in a wonderful and picturesque setting. Great terrace, gorgeous views, phenomenal food, outstanding wine list, convenient car park - what else can one wish for in the heart of Tuscany?
We had one of the best traditional Ribolita (with a fresh spring onion) we have ever had. The asparagus flan was absolutely heavenly. The “pasta of the day” was tagliatelle with black truffles which was excellent. The strips of grilled Tuscan steak was fantastic and flavourful. The potatoes were so good.
If you find yourself staying in one of the B&Bs nearby, or simply driving by, do yourself a favour and eat at this outstanding restaurant.

Hidden gem in small village in Tuscany.
We were recommended to visit to this restaurant by the Agriturismo owner.
All dishes were amazing. We were too hungry to take pictures of dishes before eating…
Tomato sauce is not my favorite choice, but their salsa di pomodoro was amazing. I loved it so much even it was a dish for my son.
Sophisticated atmosphere, but still cozy and child friendly. Cameriele was very professional. Five stars for both foods and service. Highly recommended.

Lovely little restaurant with a great view of the surrounding countryside. Service is always amazing - the host especially is so kind and really makes outsiders feel welcome in the town. Food was fantastic, I loved the gnocchi! Check this place out if you're in town.

One of our favourite restaurants. Always reliable, with some interesting local twists. The host David is very helpful. This is a destination in itself - be prepared to take your time.

This restaurant was highly recommended to us by a frequent traveler to Tuscany. We liked it so much we went back and ate their a second time during our week long stay in nearby in Castelmuzio. The waitstaff and owner were accommodating, friendly and helpful with our requests. The food and wine was superior and the ambiance comfortable and elegant.

A spacious but very cosy place. Professional, very polite a D welcoming service create an excellent surrounding for a great dinner. If your then getting served food made of fresh ingredients and we'll thought receipts, it's all you want. I highly enjoyed the lamb glazed with honey, wrapped in bacon with lavender on top. The Ribolita is also full of fresh vegetables and served generously. The tiramisu is simply out of this planet. We were super satisfied especially after a miserable lunch in San Gimignano. No wonder this restaurant is visited as much by locals than tourists.

High quality ingredients, well though menu with a good mix of options. Wine list has some interesting local gems plus some of the well known names.

Incredible views at sunset. We came in June with a full moon. The food was spectacular. We enjoyed an aubergine starter, Tuscan pici pasta, followed by beef steak. Last was the tiramisu on a plate. Looked messy but was divine.

Service was first class but brush up on your Italian !!

One of the best restaurants we've ever had the privilege of enjoying. The food, the views, the staff - all excellent! If you get a chance to try the roasted tomato aubergine go for it! Bellisimo!
