A true gem of a modern art museum which houses an excellent collection of figurative art paintings by Italian and international artists. I definitely recommend a visit. There is a digital display which gives information on each artist and the museum is run by a very friendly and knowledgeable lady. Central location, just behind University Square in the centre of Catania.

A really nice place to visit, it won’t take you much time to see it all, but you should definitely add it as stop if you walk through the centre. The entrance is 7€. I was amazed how good is that for such a small city.

A must visit when in Catania .
Unlike many contemporary art galleries, it does not bore or ridicule with kitsch .
Careful selection of fantastic, thought provoking pieces , well done to the curators of what’s on exhibition 👌👏.
Lovely and welcoming, knowledgeable people on the desk .
The only downside- it’s rather small. But absolutely worth a visit.

Absolutely loved this place. The quality of the work on display is so high and the intimate feel brings you so close to the works. I'm not usually a fan of contemporary art, but so much of the work on display here was skilled, passionate and humane. Well worth the admission fee.

Entrance is 7 Eur, and it's more of a gallery than a museum, so is it worth it?

Are you an art lover?
If so, you can spend about an hour if you take pictures. 45 min if you don't.

If you're not an art over, it's not for you and probably 7 Eur is too much.

The exhibition (which is permanent) is not huge (4 rooms, 2 floors) and not ground breaking but - there are a few very interesting and impressive artwork.

If you want something a bit different then churches and cathedrals - this place is a refreshing change.

Remarkably high quality collection of contemporary figurative art (painting, sculpture and photography). While a relatively small collection, nearly every piece arrested my gaze; my regards to the curator and thanks to this museum for supporting this under-appreciated bit of the contemporary art world.

If you find yourself in Catania, come by and see some amazing, moving figurative work created by artists who are presently working and contributing to our culture.

This museum, along with a similar collection in Barcelona, make strong arguments for the continued relevance, if not superiority, of figurative art to move the heart and mind of the viewer, without the need for tedious, discursive explanations of the artists' intent and "vision."

I'm a fan of very many abstract art works and a few abstract artists, but the vast majority of contemporary abstract art doesn't speak to me or have any direct emotional impact upon me (out of the thousands of pieces I've seen, I can call to mind only a few that "moved" me in the way many pieces in this museum moved me).

For my part, I want visual art to, at a minimum, "be worth a thousand words" without my having to read a thousand words before I can see what the artist was trying to "say." Often, it seems that the "art" is more of an illustration or demonstration of the ideas expressed in the "artists statement" than "art" that stands on its own two feet.

Perhaps many abstract artists are toiling away at something that is just not their calling; maybe philosophy, or essay-based cultural criticism is where they can best contribute. In saying this, I'm not trying to silence anyone, but rather urging them to "speak" in whatever form most effectively conveys their thoughts.

The space is a bit smaller and you can went through all the art pieces in under 20 minutes. The artwork is however fascinating and I think it's definitely worth the money. The staff was very kind. There is no AC but the temperature was OK and way better than outside.

Have a look and let the exhibition take you in. :) This seems a masterful compilation of works even for a casual viewer like me. It did wonders to my mind and I felt fresh after. No guarantees in art or life, but worth giving it your try!

Nice, small museum. We had the place to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. In a city with so much history, it was nice to see works that were all from this millennium. Recommended.

MACS is a small but fascinating art museum located in part of a former convent. The unique layout of the historic building creates a series of intimate spaces which host a variety of works by both Italian and international artists. Of particular note are the oil paintings, some of which are so detailed as to look like photographs at first glance.

The friendly lady at the front desk kindly took the time to provide more information about the museum, such as that it is a family-run operation that has many pieces in storage, so that works on display are regularly rotated. She also provided some useful information about where else to view art in Catania.

This museum is a small but bright gem and is certainly worth a visit by anyone who is interested in art.

I really loved it. It's really individual what you experience there. I went like nice, nice, more nice, nice, nice, Bang! In the end there were some works that really tickeled my brain. And the overall quality is top notch.

If you like contemporary art, this gallery is for you. Very helpful receptionists, more works than stated in the guidebook, as they have recently taken on more rooms, and a big range of artists from Scicily, Italy, and the world. You can also view other works from the artists via videos.

Recommend if you are into contemporary art, a place to spend 1-ish hour or so. This is a place that gives you a little surprises but will NOT overwhelm you with artworks or information.

A very small but comfortable gallery which is out of expectation, surprised me a lot. The settings and the experience is well decided and thought-through. I can tell how much efforts the gallery has put.

Great works and inspired us a lot. I am especially impressed by the "dark room" theme.
