Port of Messina

Loved the center being so close to the cruise dock. The Cathedral with Astronomical clock
is worth seeing. The daily 12pm display at the clock was sensational and lasted 12 minutes with the song 'Ave Maria' at the end...gave me goosebumps. Plenty shops, restaurants and bars around the area. The Lily train tour was nice to see some of the many beautiful buildings with glorious architecture. €15 for 45 mins👍

While riding a train from Catania to Germany we crossed the straits from Messina and mainland Italy. Was blown away by this little experience. They load the train onto a big ship, move the ship across the strait and then unload the train on the other end. Totally unexpected and totally shocked by the boat amenities. They have a nice little cafe inside that has food and drinks. View was amazing outside as well. One of the best Ports of call on our itinerary. The church tower in the square at noon was great to watch. There is also a little tourist train that gives a really pleasant way to spend an hour or two if you're not so mobile. The town square is virtually across the road from the Port too.

Taxis here to go to spots were easy to get. Definitely negotiate a bit and see if you can find others to share and split the cost. Well worth it to go to Taormina.

One of the better ports on the Med cruise circuit. Where the ships dock is right by the old area.of the town meaning you don't have to get involved with shuttle buses. Local police seem to have the dockside hustlers well under control.
