Museum of the Dancing Satyr

Stunning....Archeological museum built just for the satyr. Found by local fisherman. Pictures don't do the statue justice. The workmanship is exquisite, the story is fantastic. Hopefully one day they find the rest of the statue, the rest of the elephant, and everything else that went with it.

The town of Mazara and the dancing satyr are a little treasure of a visit. We were there at the time of year when it is very quiet so had pretty much the place to ourselves.

Very good bronze statue. The shape is very particular and the story behind that is fascinating. The rest of the museum is composed of a few pieces with not so much value. The entrance fee is 6 euros

Magnificent! This is a one place you simply must visit if you're only for a day in Mazara. You shouldn't miss it. The statue is amazing and the discovery story as well as preservation are compelling!

This museum is all about the satyr statue which is extraordinary and very well displayed. A good focal point to get you to mazara which is an extremely interesting town with Norman and baroque architecture, active fishing harbor, arts community and kasbah.. Note the movie in the museum is very long and pretty repetitious but worth watching for a while

The story behind the discovery of this ancient Greek Bronze Statue is fascinating. Capitan Ciccio of Mazara del Vallo Discovered this 485 meters beneath the sea. It was identified as a Hellenistic DANCING SATYR
The restoration took 4 years and was done by hand with mechanical and hand tools. The DANCING SATYR is featured in the
Museum of the Sicilian Canal in Mediterranean.

This a stunningly presented bronze statute recovered from 500 meters in the Med. I was very impressed with the quality of the sculpture and its presentation. I would list it as a must see if you are within 50 kilometers.

I first heard about this Satyr when I saw it as part of Locatelli's Sicily unpacked series. To actually see him close up in a dedicated museum and get the full story is an education worth having.
