Il Caveau Restaurant Pitigliano

Delicious restaurant in a magical setting. Super friendly staff and great steaks. The cured meats and cheese selection had a selection of stunning produce, really worth the money. Suckling pig and steak were both excellent. The green salad was basic but fresh and crisp. Desserts were not an afterthought, all skilfully made. Staff were kind enough to show us the meat fridge and the cellars. Both super interesting. Grazie.

We were blessed to find this well known restaurant on a quiet week day evening in early Jun. Seated at the edge of the terrance we were treated to a magnificent sunset on a beautiful spring day. We enjoyed a magnificent meal. The service was first class and very helpful and attentive. I would recommend the locally produced Belgian beer - La Grada.

When we decided to get away to Pitigliano I don’t think we would have such an opportunity to enjoy hi-end cuisine!

We found Il Caveau on Google maps and walked over to make a reservation… we loved it.

My wife, my son and I decided to try a variety of dishes and the local wine and all of them were beyond our expectations!

The chef sent out “amuse Bouche” of tenderloin filet with truffle. wow!

We paired that with the local Sassotondo wine and stared our appetizer of beef tartare then our main courses: pasta with porcini mushrooms, veal cheeks in pumpkin sauce and beef ribs with roasted rosemary potatoes.

Desserts were equally amazing, as we had two crumbles, and a soufflé (which was the only dish that wasn’t perfect… it was less like a French soufflé and more like an American brownie) but still delicious!

If you’re eating in Pitigliano: THIS IS THE PLACE!

We skipped antipasti due to a large apperitivo but the primi and secondi were fantastic. I would certainly go back. The atmosphere is also wonderful, with the feeling of being in old Tuscan cellars with a contemporary revival.

Pricing was reasonable and service was great.

I would certainly go back if there wasn’t so much to try in such a short period of time in Pitigliano’s old town.

Home made pasta, dry aged meat, and local Tuscan wine.

Stopping by Il Caveau was the type of pleasant surprise you hope to find when roaming around a small Italian town.

We visited Pitigliano based on a suggestion by a friend and wandered the small streets until we came across the humble sign posted just outside the entrance. Noticing the curious look on our faces a woman (presumable the upstairs neighbor) told us we would not be disappointed…. She was right.

We were greeted by a pleasant hosting staff who showed us around the unique setting of the restaurant before bringing us to our table set on the terrace overlooking the west facing valley so we could have a view of the sunset.

If this wasn’t enough, our meal was just what you would expect. I started with a home made pasta with semi-dried tomatoes and bottarga eggs paired with a local wine. To finish off we had a fillet which was prepared perfectly tender. One of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tried.

The fact that I am writing this 3 months later says something. The waitstaff were very kind and knowledgeable. A great example of Italian hospitality and taste.

I’m very much looking forward to return to try their dry aged meats.

We are glad we found this place! Very special atmosfere, you can choose between a cave and the beautiful outside view. Food was spectacular, deliciosios and good flavored, we tried the osobucco, the lamb and the tagliati pasta with italian bacon, esquisito., best restaurant in Italy, Alexander and Fabio treat us with excelent service and proffesionalism. Thank you , Italy the best, Pitigilano a beautifull town to visit, and come to this cave restaurant is amazing.

This place is an absolute gem--gorgeous restaurant, excellent high quality ingredients prepared expertly, and very friendly service. One of my favorites of all of Italy.

We had a fantastic nine-course meal with fantastic service. We loved every course and especially the beef at the end! The atmosphere is very cool and you can even venture into the caves that go below the restaurant. A unique experience.

Small tips, the terrace is more enjoyable during the sunset time, with the sun going down just in front of you.

Wir waren in der Nebensaison dort. Die schöne Terrasse unten war leider nicht mehr geöffnet. Nur noch die kleine Ecke oben an der Straße stand zur Verfügung. Das war aber nicht schlimm. Ich bin zwischendurch einfach kurz nach vorne um Fotos von diesem gigantisch schönen Ausblick mit Sonnenuntergang zu schießen. Schade, dass die obere kleine Terrasse mit undurchsichtiger Plastikplane vor Wind geschützt wird. Damit war der schöne Blick weg, was dringend geänder werden sollte.
Das Essen war jedenfalls spitze und jeden Cent wert und der Kellner ein sehr netter, sympathischer Kerl.

Abbiamo preso il menù Meatico, accompagnato dal buonissimo vino Borgociro Capalbio.

Tutto davvero SQUISITO.

Ma per me, amante dei dolci, la sorpresa è stata il dolce: era PERFETTO. Non ho mai assaggiato nulla di così equilibrato... Dolce al punto giusto (stucchevole non mi piace), la cialdina al cacao dona un tocco delicato di amaro, i lamponi l'acidulo in contrapposizione alla dolcezza del semifreddo, e poi la cremosità del cocco e la freschezza del mango.

Ottima esperienza.
Prodotti e materie prime d'eccellenza, preparazioni ottime e impiattamento impeccabile. Location top, ottima per una cena.
Da tenere in gran considerazione l'antipasto (un imperdibile biglietto da visita del territorio) e i secondi del menù.

Penso uno dei taglieri più buoni che io abbia mai mangiato. Materie prime locali e piatti ricercati nei sapori.

Era tutto buonissimo. Offrono una cucina tipica locale con ingredienti e preparazioni di alto livello. Nel menu non manca una ricca selezioni di carni prelibatissime e i primi sono con pasta fatta direttamente da loro. Sono anche presenti due menu degustazione di cui il secondo è per vegetariani.
Il servizio è gentile e cordiale, preciso e veloce nonostante il ristorante fosse super pieno.
La location è di prima scelta, ci sono tavolo dentro in un’atmosfera elegante, raccolta e intima, ma ci sono anche tavoli fuori in terrazza con uno splendido panorama sulla campagna toscana.
Il ristorante è oltretutto un ottimo posto dove mangiare e gustare i piatti in totale relax e la sensazione è proprio quella di entrare in un posto profumato e distaccato da tutto il resto.

Location molto suggestiva, ambiente curato, pulito, accogliente. Personale molto gentile e preparato. Piatti ottimi e ben presentati. Ci tornerò
