Takachiho Kamikakure

Family travellers from HK here. we love how the hotel separate villas for each room. The service, waiters and rooms are very great! overall style, room and food, is a mix of western and Japanese style and there are tonnes of great surprises and thoughtful setup/design inside the room / the dining room! it is also very near the famous shrines and staff will nicely explain & introduce the areas. room is very cozy . if we ever come to the area we will definitely revisit

Found this ryokan through Google hotel search around Takachiho area with a great rating. Since we are foreign travelers and not driving, I emailed them to book us a sighting taxi. Super helpful and made the best to let us feel stress free. Just like a traditional Japanese ryokan, a nice tall guy welcomed us in while holding on our super heavy luggage and offering to take photos for us. The room has great indoor and outdoor hot springs. There is a personal sauna we can use outdoors too. Dinner was delicious, we enjoyed it very much. What a great retreat after a full day sightseeing!!! This is another ryokan in Kyushu we want to come back to someday. Thank you🙏

All the dishes served at dinner and breakfast were delicious, especially the Takachiho beef steak, which was cooked to my liking and had a great texture. The bamboo gratin, which I had not had in the past, was also delicious. Compared to these dishes, the desserts at dinner and the salad at breakfast were mediocre and left something to be desired.
I was really satisfied with very helpful and attentive staff.

Big, spacious, meticulously designed - everything from the foyer and storage space to lights+switches and toilet were well thought out. One of the best rooms I've stayed in.

Takachiho is a small town and this ryokan is off the main road and hard to access/find without proper navigation. Lots of small insects on the premise, understandable because of its location but do note

It is an incredible standard of the spacious rooms with a private onsen and small garden. Its a bit western adapted which worked well for us. The dinner was superb, especially highlighing the tuna sashimi and waguy beef. The dinner was the best we have hade in 3 years living in Japan. We ended up buying one each of their fantastic yukatas🤩

One of my best stay in Kyushu. The staff and management have spent a lot of efforts to keep all details perfect. The room was very beautiful. Although the private bath is not onsen, it was an amazing experience. The staff was friendly and they are well trained to speak English well. The dinner had many dishes - all taste extremely good.

The room, the staff and the service are amazing. Pick up service has been offered frequently in our stay(we have visited a couple of tourist attractions in Takachiho) , which is a great help to people who don't drive. The food is really great too.

Very friendly hosts. The ryokan feels cosy and the staff makes you feel very welcome. The rooms are big and spacious. Since it's winter, they put out a kotatsu which is so comfortable! The private onsen is clean and well equipped. Dinner is fantastic and very filling. So is breakfast! We had a enjoyable stay there. However, do take note to set out earlier if you are driving. The roads are winding and not well-lit for after dark.

Excellent stay with Private onsen and two tasty meals ! Staffs, services, environment , hygiene, room are perfect! Wood decor is so attractive to us! I love the wood smell and room style

Small hotel with only 8 rooms but provides exceptional services and meals.

Private baths a bonus. Onsen pampers from the moment you arrive - super attentive staff, spacious rooms with inside and outside baths, all aspects taken care of, and of course more-than-you-can eat cuisine.
