Colorful and vibrant. Mostly traditionally attired vendors speaking some form of Mayan dialect. Of course, you can buy your vegetables and fruits and meats.

Nice big market, just goes on and on! Great fresh veges, herbs and spices. Lots of food stalls for tacos and other local dishes.

One of my favorite markets in the world. Sadly, please eat here with caution. The nearby river is an open sewer & many reports of illness. Do shop for fruits, vegetables, handmade tortillas, candies, dried chiles, spices, coffee, chocolate. You can find beautiful candles, raw wool, little toys & sweaters. Be sure to walk around the periphery of the market to see all the day vendors. Early morning is best, but this market is bustling all day.

Local market for almost everything. Most woman dress traditionally with a black hairy long skirt made of fur.

Best potatoes in Mexico. We could not find cooked food. One taco stand served a local lady and told us they were not open. Five stars for the produce

The market sells lots of clothes, but if you wander a bit (and it's pretty big), there are many fruit and vegetable stalls, and lots of people selling chickens. There are also great deals to be had on tacos, tortas etc. The area around the market is also very much worth a wander.

Humongous San Cris Municipal Market.

This vast market has every kind of foodstuff available. It is easy to spend hours here just looking at the amazing, colorful displays. If you are staying in San Cristabol de las Casas and cooking in your lodgings like we do, you will likely come out with a huge supply of fresh produce. We enjoyed the tortillas negras and found raw almonds at a very good price. You can also find a large selection of exotic spices. If you are feeling brave, there are plenty of displays of freshly killed chickens and other carnes.

Yummy produce, colourful good prices, lots of variety. Superb. Wish I had more days here to explore and eat from.
