El Caldero

Look at this amazing auténtico almorzado. I had a hot tip about this place and it was incredible. Everyone so friendly. And so local. I had the Caldo de Chipilin and had to add some chicharrones y arroz but the rest is just what you get and it is off the HOOK delicious. Add a couple of Tecate Light (the Mexican Natty Lite) and you have perfection.

Delicious soups/stews.

We had the chipilin and pozole rojo with pork, both were delicious and huge portions. The beans they serve as an appetizer were delicious and we couldn't get enough of the salsa verde served with the tortilla chips.

Service was a little bit slow but to be fair the place was full and there was a massive queue to get in at 3pm on a Sunday.

Made a really nice change to try some traditional Mexican that wasn't tacos, and perfect for a cold rainy day.

Loved the soups here, especially for chilly days. I came twice and I liked the Arroz de Ollita more than the Chilango. They were both tasty though. Service was great and decor is cute. One of my favorite restaurants in San Cris.

El Caldero gave me an opportunity to taste and appreciate the Mexican cuisine. We had the Caldo de Mariscos and the El Caldero. Both are incredibly flavorful and served with rich amount of ingredients. Their prices were reasonable with friendly and accommodating staffs. Overall, our experience in this restaurant was great and we left with a big smile on our faces and too full tummy. I would really love to eat in this restaurant again when we return to San Cristobal.

I’ve been here every morning the last three morning, I love Mexican soup! The sides and portions are generous for only 89 pesos! Great hangover cure and they open at 7:30am! Love me some El Caldero

El Caldero... I was craving a good caldo, for a long time. Found this place, and immediately could tell something good was happening in there because it was completely packed.

I ordered a beer and with it (complementary) came the biggest bowl of nachos and salsas I’ve ever seen in my life. That alone could had been a meal.

Went to the “antojitos” section of the menu, to start out slow. So for 30 pesos I ordered fried plantains. What did I expect for 30 pesos? Maybe 3-5 pieces but they come and bring me a whole plantation 😅.

Now I’m nervous, not only I ate the entire bowl of chips but now I have a massive plate of fried plantains. I did what I could and ate as many my stomach would allow. Then lord behold, the caldo arrives. I’m not prepared for this... I had to find inner strength, I had to be strong. Then they bring me a plate of chips with beans, avocado and lime and at this point I’m just in a food coma. Then they also replace my empty bowl of nachos with a new one and at this point I’m just about to collapse.

So, long story short, the restaurant is good, clean, trendy, portions are huge and prices are right.

Massive soups with massive amounts of meat inside. Excellent flavors, but you better bring your appetite! A little pricey to be called a value lunch, but well priced as a dinner option.

Highly recommended for a nice bowl of warm soup with lots of things added to them. Great atmosphere, service and most importantly the flavour of their food.

Needed something to help my stomach and this place hit the spot. Super delicious Caldo Vegetariano. Highly recommend if you need something a little lighter on the stomach or to warm up on a chilly Sam Cris day.

Suberb Mexican eatery, with soups and stews from several different regions. I visited three times and left very full and very happy each time.

Must visit while in San cris. Get the caldo de chipilin: as chiapaneco cuisine as they come. So good.

Came here on a day that i was feeling under the weather and was desperate for a vegetable soup. They delivered! Massive bowl of hearty veggie soup to cure my ills. Everything else looked delicious too.

Very good pozole. It was a big bowl full of goodies and flavour. Three service was friendly and the price fair. I'll certainly come back.

Always great service and delicious. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait- but it's worth it. Every caldo we have tried has been delicious and filling. And we love the cafe de olla too.

Couldn’t recommend this more! Delicious to try some Mexican food that wasn’t the usual tacos. Came on Thursday and they had a free entree, think they do different specials each night. Had the beef mole soup which was delicious and the meat was so tender.

Incredible food! Very warm environment and friendly staff! A must go! The portions are very big so be careful what you order if you are alone!! I loved the nachos and all the sauces they offered!

Delicious mexican soups with big variety with very attentive and quick service.
Usually it's quite crowded, but it's worth to wait in the line.

Delicious soup - portion large enough to share (89 pesos), great portion of nachos to accompany it and a tasty selection of salsas too.

It's just delicious and abundant. "Salsas" are great, the staff super friendly, Cristóbal y Verónica. The decoration is kinda cool! Try "sopa de chipilin"

Super delicious food and great service! Would definitely recommend and it’s a 10/10!
