Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Gulf of California & Colorado River Delta

Super cool place. Easy access. Affordable. The place was very well kept, clean and patrons were allowed to park their vehicles by the cabanas. The ocean was amazing! I will definitely recommend this place for a get away.

Biosphere is very nice to visit and easy to get to. I would go again

Alto Golfo de California Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve located in the state of Sonora in extreme northwestern Mexico. The 1,652,110 hectares reserve comprises the El Pinacate y Gran Desierto reserve and the Bahia Adair on the Gulf of California border. Geological volcanic formations with craters, dunes, oasis and beaches, and the diversity of plant associations determine its special landscape. The reserve was established in 1993 by the President of Mexico as Reserva de la Biosfera del Alto Golfo de California y Delta del Río Colorado and extended in 1995.

As of 1990, 129,516 inhabitants live in the transition and buffer areas in ejidos or communal properties, primarily engaged in agriculture, forestry, mineral extractions and cattle raising located mainly in the coastal areas. One of the most important economic activities in the transition areas is the existence of international enterprises (maquiladoras), in San Luis Río Colorado, which engage 5,880 people living in the urban villages.

The reserve is managed by the Municipality of Mexicali in the State of Baja California and the Municipalities of Puerto Peñasco and San Luis Río Colorado in the State of Sonora.

Sorry I haven't had time to stop for more pictures. The reserve looks so much better now that water is be more naturally destributed. The highway though the area has grealy inproved over later few year. Beautiful area to journey through.

One day I was just looking at Google Maps and It seemed awesome, later I had the opportunity to travel to California from Mexico by airplane and I had a window seat and the because I travel by Aeromexico Airlines and they have a real time map in every seat, I could wait and see this part of The world from the clouds! It is so beautiful!

If you want peace and solitude, this is the place for you. No cell service, no radio signal. Perfect.
Small, about 40 inhabitants at most. Hot springs on the beach. Awesome.

Love this part of Mexico by the Sea of Cortez, and just wish it weren't so far from San Diego! The water can be almost Caribbean-blue and is very warm, compared to the Pacific Ocean. Waves are also much calmer and low tide is something to behold as it goes out 1000 feet or more. A shell-seekers dream!

Awesome Baja 250 in Sand Felipe!

Great fun off the beaten path I highly recommend going all the way to Punta Allen. Don't puss out rent the car and look up a great boat captain take a ride in the lagoons.

Its a Mexican Malecon. Everything you expect to find. Quiet during the week picks up on weekends. Vendors ,food and beach.

Great place to relax, still it is small fishermen town without all the noise an busy scene of tourist place, cheap and quiet !

Beautiful place, take plenty of water and snacks and please clean afterwards

If Visiting Puerto Peñasco this is an absolute must see. World Class Museum and Experience!!!
